Evelyn sighed, talking with the private investigator they had hired to find Sophia. Frustration and fatigue were evident on her face as she leaned back in her chair and ran a hand through her hair. "Alright. Please inform me if you get any clues."

Ending the call, she sighed out loud. They had hired so many people searching for Sophia, from Damien’s and Ronan’s alliances to police officers and private agents all over the world, but she was nowhere to be found. It felt as though that woman had disappeared from the world, and it was getting on everyone’s nerves.

"Ma’am," a knock on the door interrupted Evelyn, and she hummed, allowing the staff member to enter. Walking closer, the staff member passed the tablet and requested, "Can you look through these outlines? We have made all the changes you pointed out in the morning meeting."

Evelyn took the tablet and went through the designs. A frown tugged at her lips as she skimmed through the outlines for their new project.

"Did you really make all the changes?" Evelyn questioned, looking up from the screen.

The designer gulped nervously and nodded in response. Evelyn had been in a bad mood for a few days in a row now, and her department faced most of her wrath.

"How many times should I tell you that minor details are important?!" Evelyn scolded out loud. "If we use this many lamps around the room, wouldn’t it take extra space?"

The designer bowed in apology. "We will cut down and also change the location."

Evelyn sighed and moved to the next outline, pointing out the seating arrangements. "This layout doesn’t consider the space needed for movement. It will be too cramped."

"Sorry, Ma’am. We will change it."

"Were you guys sleeping during the meeting?" Evelyn scolded, her loud voice echoing in the room. "Can’t you do one thing right?"

Avery, who had just entered, blinked in confusion. She sighed and quickly came to the designer’s rescue. "They are under a lot of pressure these days. Go easy on them, boss!" 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Walking up to the desk, Avery gestured for the poor girl to leave. "I will take a look at them later. You should grab something to eat, Vivi."

Vivianna nodded, and bowing one last time, she escaped out of the room. Since she was the youngest, her team decided to make her the scapegoat, and they were glad to see her coming out alive.

"What’s wrong with you these days?" Avery grumbled. Passing the coffee cup, she took the chair in front of the desk and murmured, "Everyone is afraid to even approach you."

Evelyn sighed and took a sip of the coffee. She had always been the calmest person, and her workers liked her more because of it. But things weren’t falling into place, and the stress was taking a toll on her.

Evelyn suddenly stopped drinking her coffee and rushed to the bathroom.

Avery blinked and rushed behind her. "What’s wrong?" she asked, standing by the door as Evelyn entered inside and closed it.

Avery didn’t hear a response but instead heard the sound of water and Evelyn puking. It made her worry, and she asked again, "Evy, are you alright?"

"I am fine," Evelyn replied, followed by the flushing sound. After washing her face, she walked out.

Avery helped her sit on the couch and rubbed her back. "Did I put too much caffeine?" she wondered, looking at the coffee cups, but hers tasted good.

Evelyn shook her head. "It must be because of stress." Pouring herself a glass of water, she continued, "I have been feeling queasy for a few days now."

Avery nodded in response. "Still no clues about her?" she asked after a few seconds of silence. When Evelyn shook her head, she sighed softly. Evelyn had been restless and tired most of the time because of it. Her mood swings were getting worse, and she just hoped they could find Sophia soon.

But then something else clicked in. Avery turned to Evelyn and wondered, "Evy, are you pregnant?"

Evelyn almost choked on her water. She stared at Avery, her shock evident. "What?"

"Oh my god!" Avery covered her mouth. "You must be pregnant!" she squealed in joy. "You even missed your period last week, didn’t you?"

Evelyn nodded and tried to process it. Her period usually got delayed for a week, so she didn’t think much about it. But now, everything fell into place. She had been having frequent mood swings, certain cravings, and even exhaustion.

"Wait here. I will get the kit!" Avery murmured, bringing Evelyn out of her outs. She quickly got up from her seat but paused and went back. "You know what? Let’s just visit the doc!" With a grin, Avery grabbed her phone and quickly dialed Rosalind.

"Rosy!" Avery’s excited voice greeted Rosalind, who was in Arcameia right now. She had gone to visit Natalie and would be returning next week. "Your best friend is a gynecologist, right? Can you arrange an appointment quickly?"

"Why? Are you ill?" Rosalind asked from the other end.

Looking at Evelyn, Avery decided to lie to throw a huge surprise later. "Yep. I am having bad cramps. Please ask if she is available. We will be leaving right now."

As Rosalind agreed, Avery ended the call with a bright smile. Grabbing her purse, she grabbed Evelyn’s hand and walked out of the office. "Let’s go."

"Lissy, cancel all our meetings for today!" Avery told their assistant at the desk, who was surprised but nodded in response.

"Ah, this feels so surreal!" Avery couldn’t keep calm. She clung to Evelyn’s hand and murmured, "Do you think it’s gonna be a boy or girl? They can’t tell until a few months, right?"

"It might not be the case," Evelyn murmured in response. She felt anxious, the weight of the potential news heavy on her mind. "Don’t get your hopes up."

"True." Avery nodded in agreement. They entered the elevator, but Avery didn’t stop babbling, hoping it to turn out to be a girl so she could be as beautiful as Evelyn, her excitement making Evelyn smile despite her nerves.

[Venessa Private Hospital]

Evelyn and Avery sat in the doctor’s cabin, both impatiently waiting for the results. Just then, a nurse came inside and delivered the blood reports to Dr. Casey, Rosalind’s friend.

"What does it say? Is she pregnant?" Avery impatiently asked, leaning forward in her chair.

Dr. Casey skimmed through the reports, the smile on her face enough to make Avery squeal in joy. "Congratulations, Evelyn."

"Oh my god! I can’t believe it!" Avery shrieked in excitement. Turning around, she hugged Evelyn tightly. "I am so, so happy, Evy! Thank you! Thank you so much!"

Dr. Casey looked at the scene with a warm expression. Avery was breaking into sobs, but Evelyn didn’t seem to react at all. She sat there in silence, and Casey could tell it was more than just shock.

"How about you contact your husband first?" Casey suggested. When Evelyn turned to her, she added, "We can run an ultrasound once he is here."

"Yes! We should surprise him!" Avery was the one to reply. "And it will be even more special if you both see together for the first time," she added, taking out her phone.

Casey nodded and left the room for the two. By the time Zevian arrived, she would be done with her rounds too, and she could talk with both of them.

Avery quickly dialed Zevian, but when the call was cut abruptly, she groaned in frustration. "Why doesn’t he ever pick up my calls?" Turning to Evelyn, she demanded, "Give me your phone."

Evelyn sighed in response. "He won’t pick up mine either," she murmured.

"Why?" Avery frowned in confusion. "Ah, did you two fight again?" she guessed. They had been getting into petty fights recently, but that wouldn’t stop Zevian from answering her call. He would drop everything and rush if she told him that Evelyn was in the hospital.

"Let me call his manager then." Avery changed her plans, looking for Brandon’s number. But Evelyn took away the phone, her actions confusing Avery even more.

"What’s wrong, Evy?" Avery asked, moving closer. Evelyn’s cold expression was making her worry.

Evelyn sighed again in response. Looking down at her belly, she murmured, "We are getting a divorce."
