Her voice cracked with desperation as she shook Gracia gently, then firmly, hoping to elicit a response. The coolness of Gracia’s skin sent chills down Evelyn’s spine. Her chest heaved as dread began to settle in her stomach.

Rita handed Gracia a glass of water, which she accepted with shaky hands. "Drink this," Rita urged softly.

Minutes later, Dr. Wismay arrived, followed closely by Zevian and Damien. Their expressions were a mix of worry and urgency.

"Doctor," Evelyn greeted, rushing toward him.

Wismay gave her a small nod, his focus shifting to Gracia immediately. "How is she now?"

"She’s awake," The attending nurse replied quickly, moving aside to give the doctor space. "Her vitals are fine, I called you since they were worried."

Wismay nodded and gestured for the nurse to assist him, his hands already moving to check Gracia’s pulse. The tension in the room was palpable, every small sound magnified in the silence. Evelyn couldn’t stop herself from stealing glances at Zevian, who gave her a subtle nod of reassurance.

After a few minutes of examination and quiet conversation with the nurse, Wismay straightened, his gaze settling on the group. "She’s alright," he announced, his voice firm and steady. "It seems she collapsed due to shock, but her vitals are stable. Just make sure she gets plenty of rest and avoids any stress."

A collective sigh of relief swept through the room. Evelyn felt her shoulders relax slightly, though the guilt that gnawed at her heart refused to let go.

As they walked Wismay out, Evelyn murmured, "I’m sorry," Her voice was barely above a whisper, but the weight of her regret was unmistakable. "It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have brought up the topic."

Zevian, who had been quietly observing, moved closer and wrapped an arm around her shoulder. "It’s not your fault," he said softly.

But Evelyn shook her head, lowering her gaze. The guilt was too overwhelming to dismiss so easily.

Wismay paused by the door, his expression thoughtful. "Evelyn, the truth would have come out eventually. Sometimes, it’s better to face these moments head-on than to let them linger. You didn’t do anything wrong."

Evelyn looked up, her eyes clouded with doubt.

The doctor added gently, "Just be careful next time. If she asks again, take a moment to gauge her emotions and convey things in a way she can handle."

Zevian gave the doctor a grateful nod, and Damien walked Wismay out, exchanging a few words as they disappeared down the hallway. Zevian then led Evelyn back into the room, his touch grounding her as they returned to Gracia’s bedside.

Gracia’s gaze softened as she looked at them. "Evelyn," she called softly.

Evelyn immediately moved closer, sitting by her mother’s side. Gracia reached out, pulling her into a gentle hug. "That must have scared you. I’m sorry," she murmured, her voice tinged with remorse.

Evelyn shook her head, a sigh escaping her lips. "I’m just glad you’re alright, Mom."

Kiana, who had been quietly sitting in the corner, let out a relieved sigh of her own. "Grandma, don’t scare us like that again," she said with a pout, earning a soft chuckle from Gracia.

Zevian smiled at the scene and ruffled Kiana’s hair. "Come on, princess. Let’s give your mom and grandma some time to talk."

Kiana hesitated for a moment but eventually nodded, allowing Zevian to guide her out of the room. Rita followed shortly after, leaving the two women alone.

Evelyn rose from her spot, ready to leave as well. "I’ll let you rest, Mom. We can talk later—"

"Wait," Gracia interrupted, her hand catching Evelyn’s. Her grip was weak but firm enough to stop her daughter in her tracks. "Tell me everything, Bunny. Please."

Evelyn froze, her heart sinking. "Not tonight, Mom. I’ll explain everything another time," she replied gently, placing her other hand over Gracia’s.

Gracia sighed and nodded, before laying on the bed. Evelyn sat beside her and waited for her to fall asleep. Once she was in a deep slumber, she requested the nurse to take care for a while before walking out.

Evelyn smiled and rested her head on his chest again. She snuggled closer, taking all the strength she needed for the coming days. With him right beside her, she was sure of handling everything, including her face-off with Sophia.
