Why was Seth so much stronger than his peers?

Why did he advance so much faster than them?

Was it because he was more talented? No — he didn’t believe that to be the case.

Was it because he was gifted the Flash Sale System then? A worthy consideration, but still no.

The answer to why he was so strong was simple: he had faced more near-death battles than any of them could boast.

Even they, when they went through near-death situations, evolved. The reason he was above them was simply because he had faced more life-and-death scenarios, evolving more often than they had.

Seth came to this conclusion during his battle with the Charm Beast.

When he wrestled against that creature, he had sensed an ethereal force in his body spike — as though the pressure of death activated this mechanism, forcing his body to evolve and keep up in real time.

This phenomenon served as the base of his conjecture: each time a human survived a near-death encounter, they underwent a qualitative leap in strength.

Kind of like the Zenkai boost of the Saiyan race in anime.

Each time the human body was beaten, it regenerated stronger and better.

He had battled this Boss Beast mainly to confirm this theory — and indeed, he was right.

While other races had to take time to consolidate their gains after battle before getting a little bit better, humans digested all gains instantly. Their bodies rebuilt themselves stronger than before, instinctively adapting.

Which brings us back to the first passive trait of humans...

Infinite Potential!

’So that’s what it truly means... if that’s the case, even the system details didn’t do this trait any justice.’ Seth’s eyes flashed.

This trait alone made humans the most terrifying prodigies of the cosmos.

Didn’t this mean his thrill would never end?

His grin grew wide.

’It’s time I brought the rest.’ Seth had no intentions of leaving others behind.

He had a fear of going so far ahead that he’d leave everyone in the dust.

That couldn’t happen. If it did, wouldn’t that make things too boring?

His eyes flashed as his will communicated with the Origin Gate planted in his mind since his awakening.

A bright white flash erupted, and Seth was gone just like that.

Back on Earth...

In a small enclosed room of the Duskreavers mansion, nine figures sat. Four more ancient elders had awoken and joined the initial five.

"So you’re telling me the boy is gone?" A newly awakened elder, Raul, spoke.

A weak, raspy voice croaked in reply. "Till now we can’t figure out how he did it."

It was then the first female elder spoke. Her voice was soft and crisp, like that of a warming grandma. She spoke her tone amused: "I’m sure Grimgar will be really pleased with the way you guys ’took care’ of his lineage."

The four elders who antagonized Seth frowned but remained silent.

Grimgar — that name alone held weight even among the circle of ancient old fogies like them.

One of the elders refused this point. "It’s not our fault the mixed blood was of his lineage! All of us know our family history with talented illegitimates. We couldn’t let history repeat itself!"

The female elder chuckled, her shoulders bobbing from laughter.

Her frail finger pointed from her cloak as she provoked: "You mean the history where you all discriminated and oppressed mixed bloods till they finally decided they had enough?"

"You!" The elders slammed the table in fury.

That matter of the past was a sensitive topic — the time the illegitimates almost overthrew the family’s main bloodline.

It was a shamefully weak past, and bringing it up was akin to ripping open old wounds.

They had been this close to annihilation. If not for a fortuitous turn of fate, the current Duskreavers would have been blasphemed and ruled by inferior mixed bloods.

This even festered the hate in the hearts of some elders.

While they didn’t find it worthy of themselves to slay all mixed bloods, the same couldn’t be said for the talented.

While others saw a potential future pillar and talent of the family, they saw a liability — an inevitable future when the mixed-blood bastard would want more.

When the dog they had fed and bred would turn its fangs against its master.

That was all they saw in Seth: a danger, a threat to their family, the Duskreavers.

Why should they let such a threat fester when there was the simple solution of eradicating it, especially when it had been spotted this early?

To them, it was a no-brainer. They couldn’t understand why others couldn’t see it their way.

"Alright, enough!" A voice commanded, calling silence to the room.

Hearing this voice, even the discontented had to swallow whatever comeback they had back down their throats.

After all, this was a Great Elder — a being at the mid-level of the Awakened Rank!

In both strength and prestige, they couldn’t compare.

The elder brought down his hood, revealing stunning features hidden beneath.

Bright silver hair, deep ruby red pupils, and a creaseless face of a healthy middle-aged man.

One far too young for his age. He was called Johan Duskreaver.

He spoke, his tone leaving no question of his authority.

"What is done is done! We can’t fight over spilled milk."

Everyone remained silent, none daring to interrupt.

He continued, his fingers rhythmically tapping against his armrest.

"The boy has been antagonized. Even though I feel it’s unnecessary, it has happened! We can’t turn back now. You find the boy, and you make sure he dies. If Grimgar awakes, I’ll take full responsibility..."

His words caused the four elders’ eyes to light up. At least Johan saw things clearly as they did.

Since Seth had escaped, all four elders had the entire mansion of the Duskreavers covered in their senses.

So naturally, they were all stunned as a powerful presence pulsed brightly out of the blue.

"Hm? Did you feel it?" Elder Rodi whispered to his peers.

And they all

nodded grimly, their gazes turning down. They could feel the powerful aura steaming from the room Seth had supposedly escaped from.
