’Variants!’ Seth’s mind echoed with the only other logical conclusion.
And the military agent was right — they needed to be wary.
And Seth was, rightfully so...
Once more, the eerie synonymous overlapping voice of the duo rang through the room.
"We can feel your rich essence reminded why all this was happening — all to please the enemy race.
These humans abandoned their pride and identities as proud humans, only to become subservient scums to the Bloodborne race figures.
But even as Seth’s emotions surged, he remained calm and quiet.
Observing his composure, the twin priests tilted their heads at opposing angles synonymously.
Their eyes lit with an eerie focus of interest. "Where did you come from? Who sent you? We are curious."
Again, the eerie overlap in coordinated vocals echoed through the room.
And Seth still remained silent, scanning them with a cautious but sinister gaze.
Their lips stretched in sync. "It’s an opposing order, isn’t it? They must be scared of the Descent, and rightfully so! We have waited for this night since the dawn of the apocalypse. Do you think we will allow any interruptions?"
Their eyes glowed with ominous intensity.
And at this point, Seth was done listening... his gait swayed.
The twins sensed his movement and acted in tandem.
"We Prohibit The Use of Weapons!" An echo of overlapped voices boomed through the earthen room.
Seth frowned as he felt a sudden lightness in his hands. His vision shifted down.
And his blade — it was gone... he blinked.
"Huh?" He reached for his inventory, and it was as though all his weapons suddenly became inaccessible, unable to be equipped.
His gaze rose, resting on the twin priests, who flashed him an eerie smile.
He was sure this was a gene skill of some kind, but... he didn’t feel the pulse of essence, neither did he feel the bearing of an activated skill.
It was as though everything just happened as they willed — no explanation, no logic behind it.
Even the fact that they were variants didn’t explain how they were able to place restrictions on usage of even Awakened weapons!
Seth’s eyes flashed with wary light. Or maybe... it was the fact that they were variants that logic didn’t apply.
And if it really was so, the military agent’s explanation didn’t do these rare breeds of evolvers justice.
Because from what had just happened, it proved that not only grade but even ranks didn’t restrict the potency of their gene skills — if they could even be called that.
They had to have a skill related to making or imposing the intention behind their words into reality.
It was a reality-warping skill that bore no regard to cause or effect. From this single activation, Seth could deduce this.
Which meant... Seth’s eyes flashed with savage light. ’They are too much of a threat to remain alive.’
This silent internal acknowledgment washed through Seth, his demeanor shifting in tandem with his stance.
The twins stared at him amusedly, flashing a toothy grin. "We are demigods. The likes of you can’t compare!"
Seth’s eyes burned at the taunt. For the first time, he spoke, his voice cold and rife with an intense killing intent that swamped the room. "Is that so?"
The echo of his voice had barely finished ringing when his figure burst into a blur.
The muscles of the two tensed, but before they could make any moves, or even muster a twitch to their tongues...
Splat!
Seth’s figure raced through the wind wielding both fists with brutal intent.
Subtle flickers of filtered annihilation force crackled across both fists, the silver watch remaining silent, showing his hold on his constraints remained steady.
The fists tore through the heads of the twins, reducing them to bloodied paste, brain matter splashing across the walls behind them.
Blood pumped from their headless necks, the dangling muscle strands and exposed windpipes twitched as the bodies slowly crumpled to the ground.
What did they think this was? Seth was still Awakened — weapon or not, his lethality never waned. Their deaths were only delayed by a few seconds.
They never stood a chance. His cold gaze scanned their unmoving corpses. "Not so much of demigods now, are you?"
He mocked in cold humor, moving his gaze away, unconcerned. To him, at most they were slight impediments.
But in the end, never worth his time. His mind had long moved on, ready to continue his onslaught.
His mind reached for his inventory, ready to re-equip his trusted tool of slaughter — the Shackled Rank black steel sword.
He halted in his tracks, his lips twisted into a frown, his brows creased unpleasantly.
Why couldn’t he still equip his weapons? If an evolver died, all effects of his skill would be snuffed out with his life.
Except... this rule was different for variants. It made no sense.
It was at this moment his ears twitched, his eyes stilled from shock. ’A heartbeat? No, two!’
The rhythmic beat rang clear, but the presence of life remained absent. It was only now he realized it was never there.
His body went rigid, but he forced a turn, and he saw a sight that stunned him.
The slow rise of both corpses, as the splatter and mush that once consisted of their heads slowly gathered over their necks, reforming their heads... but it wasn’t the same.
Their heads were now shielded in a white bony exterior, their emerald eyes burning through the hollow sockets.
"Indeed we are divine! By the grace of the gods, blood made flesh, we are demigods!" The haunting reply was late, but it rang, the voices overlapping with eerie intensity.
Seth was irritated, his eyes flashed. ’Still alive?’
He spared no words. His body swayed into action, his muscles tensing as he mustered a higher level of strength than before.
Space bent in his wake, but the silver watch remained dim, showing that this was still enough for the earth to bear.
Compressed wind kicked, his figure already before them once more. They seemed able to react, but since Seth had kicked things up a notch, it was still lacking.
His fists pounded, essence burning in his veins in sparse amounts but with an intensity that decimated his foes on impact.
A single punch and the two targets were obliterated, their remains rupturing into a bloody mess.
Splattering all over, leaving no whole part. Annihilation currents crackled with brighter lease than before, reducing some remains to nothing.
He stood, his breath steady, his gaze cold, and he observed what was left of them.
And after seconds, it remained unresponsive. His tensed muscles eased, and just as he was about to turn and walk away, the blood spatter stirred.
His eyes twitched as both figures were once more rebuilt, as though the laws of cause and effect itself were reversed.
Seth’s heart stilled, but he didn’t relent in action. His fist whipped forth again.
His eyes cold with determination. So what if they could revive?
He refused to believe this could be done unlimitedly, so he would kill until they remained dead.
Only, this time his punch struck before the priests even fully recovered consciousness, but the effect wasn’t the same.
The same might that reduced them to shreds sent them flying, coughing blood, but... they still remained whole.
A cold chill ran down Seth’s spine as realization hit hard.
These guys weren’t just reviving. A wave of goosebumps ran across his back. ’They are adapting!’
