At most, it just immobilized some people for a while.

Deep in the reaches of the outskirts of Washington DC, Virginia, the Pentagon remained relatively unfazed by this world-ending rattle.

But the same couldn’t be said for the humans within.

Seth’s heart lurched, each word he read from the system making his gut sink deeper.

Was it really this bad?

Honestly, he had already deduced the existence of myriad native races outside of humans — after all, the clues were too numerous.

Starting from the foundation laid by his Grand Weapon Maester lineage, down to the racial lamp ignition prompts...

Everything led him to believe there was more to this Earth than met the eye.

But never in his wildest dreams could he believe it was this bad.

The Origin had clearly stated it: humans were at the bottom of the food chain.

Did they really still have a chance?

Seth wasn’t the only one with such a question in mind. His four friends were similarly undergoing internal crises, settled with the same question.

Yes, the human race had limitless potential and all, but it was still just potential.

Why did Seth run away from the Treants?

Because though humans could grow exponentially under pressure, it still had to be one they could handle.

If the pressure was too much, they’d be squished into paste before they could evolve to catch up.

"Now lads, do you think humans still don’t have a chance at uniting?" The president’s calm voice rang.

It was only at this moment Seth’s mind snapped out of his daze, recalling they were still in a meeting with the president.

But his heart wasn’t filled with nearly as much awe or nervousness. With this worldwide quest issued, he could hardly think of anything else.

Looking at the president, Seth was shocked to see the man still wearing the same smile, his composure in place. All in all, he was... calm?

The Origin practically just declared what seemed like a death sentence to the human race, and it didn’t faze him?

Seth wasn’t the only one staring at him weirdly. Elaine, Jack, Uriel, and Brandon, who had all been shaken by the news, stared at him confused.

The president’s smile remained lightly tugging his lips as he spoke once more. "Under the pressure of imminent extinction and the timely convergence of the continents, I believe humans have a chance at unity!"

Seth’s brows raised in confusion. What would humans uniting accomplish?

The president, as though reading his mind, shook his head lightly. "You take the human race too lightly, son."

Uriel and the others frowned. What was there to take lightly? It was stated clearly that humans were weaker than these races.

Not to mention the sheer number of native races. Though they weren’t clear on this, it wasn’t hard to imagine there would be many. And if that was so, wouldn’t humans be practically fighting against the tide?

What were their chances?

The pessimism had taken deep root. The five had already started to panic internally, hence why their thought processes were incoherent.

When faced with such pressure, it was naturally a lot to handle.

The president smiled leisurely as he tapped rhythmically on the table. "You see, apart from our immense limitless potential and our unfathomably deep intelligence, humans have another edge over these livid grunts who will be waking up pretty soon, if not already."

The president’s words seemed to make something click in all five minds present.

He knew about all this all along! They hissed internally.

Seth blinked, thinking of a certain figure he had met back in a garden. Back then, he had gotten a feeling that guy was silently waiting for something.

Then there were the human gene lineages, linked to so-called mythological figures. Could it be these figures were still alive and silently planning?

The dots seemed to be connecting in snaps, drawing a full picture of the board for him to see.

But Seth still felt he was missing valuable information.

From the aura he felt off Adam, that guy was definitely a higher lifeform. If he had to say, it was definitely beyond the first life evolution.

That explained why he was stuck in that garden and couldn’t step a foot into Earth.

Which made them intervening practically impossible. That was why Seth felt he was missing something.

Meanwhile, though his thoughts had taken another train, the president continued. "Unlike what you think, we are the majority in this case.
