A loud scoff erupted from her throat within the next second and she looked up to meet his intense gaze and arched an eyebrow at him.

"She didn’t cheat on you? Yeah, right," she blurted out, the words that left her lips were dripping with sarcasm and poison. "Like I would believe, I’m not buying her bullshit. Only you would. Because you are blindly in love with her and your mind somehow forgets that she wronged you!" She snarled in her shrill voice as she clenched her jaws tightly.

"It’s the truth. And no I didn’t forget," he started, his face bore a serious expression as he recalled the times from 3 years ago when he would lock himself in his room and isolate himself from everyone else while forcing himself to work all day all night on his business simply to serve as a distraction. "But she told me that she was threatened by her mother who wanted to ruin my business and she didn’t have a choice," he explained, hoping that his mother would actually listen and give her another chance.

But all of that was for nothing as she stood her ground and remained stubborn.

"She told you and you believe her? You would believe every single word that comes out of her mouth but you wouldn’t believe a single word your own mother said," she stated, her voice carrying a sharp edge to it and her words reeked of bitterness. For some reason this made her hate Aurelia even more than she used to. She rose from the couch this time. "For all you know, she could be lying to you! Of course, she wouldn’t admit to actually cheating on you, especially since you are so rich and successful now."

"Of course I believe her. She’s my wife now and I know her, she isn’t that type of person. She wouldn’t lie to me."

"But you think I am that type of person, right?" She questioned, her features contorted into an angry expression as her eyes darkened. "You think I’m the bad person trying to ruin your marriage. You think that I am cunning and manipulative and selfish. You think that I’m a bad mother who deserves to die. Is that so?!"

"What are you..." his voice trailed off and he let out a huge sigh at the ridiculousness of his mother’s words and accusations. "I didn’t even say that," he said, his voice cold and distant.

"You don’t have to say it. It’s implied. I know you think about it."

He let out a breath, disbelief swirling in his dark eyes as he looked over at his mother. "You know what? I’m done here, I’m done talking to you. Don’t bother looking for me again until you apologise to Aurelia and make things right between us."

"Apologise to her? Never," she spat. "She doesn’t deserve my apology, I did nothing wrong at all," she insisted, her voice remained unwavering.

"That’s not for you to decide."

With that said, he spun on his heels to leave, barely sparing her another glance. Just as he took a couple of steps, his mother’s sharp voice reached his ears once again.

"You are hopeless, Xavier Wilder!" She shrieked as her voice shook with rage. "One day you will see that I was right all along!" She yelled behind him but he didn’t turn around to meet her angry eyes, instead, he let the door slam behind him and he walked off.

First Person POV

I saw Xavier walk through the door and the corners of my lips were twisted upwards into a huge grin. Almost immediately, I stood up from the couch and was ready to rush over to his side when I caught a glimpse of his face and saw that look.

His dark eyes looked empty and he looked exhausted, even his shoulders were slightly slouched forward. As soon as he lifted his head to meet my eyes, he let a smile fall on his lips.

"Hey, babe," he greeted, like how he normally would, except this time, it felt a little different than usual.

I approached him slowly, wrapping my fingers around his arm, I looked up at him as my brows were furrowed together. "Babe, are you okay? Where have you been?" I asked, my voice laced with concern and worry.

He hesitated for a brief moment before he opened his mouth to speak. "I’m fine," he lied, he clearly didn’t look okay but I didn’t press on. "I had a meeting with a client and I’m just tired."

"Oh, alright, sure."

He gently grabbed my chin, forcing me to look into his eyes and letting a smile grace his lips. "Hey, don’t worry about me, alright? I’m okay."

I forced my lips up into a small smile.

"Yeah, okay," I muttered under my breath and there was a brief pause. "I love you."

His eyes lit up and the smile on his face grew wider as he pulled me into a tight embrace and murmured beside my ear. "I love you, Aurelia."

I glanced down to look at the screen of my phone, my eyes quickly scanning the text that popped up.

"What did you do to my precious son? Why would he believe your lies over me? It was clear that you cheated on him back then, why did you lie to say that you didn’t?"

I guess he went to confront his mother about the situation last night. I ignored the text, locking my phone and placed it back down on the table with the screen facing down. I wasn’t going to let her one text ruin our date night.

"What was it?" Xavier asked with a raised brow, curiosity swirling in the depths of his eyes.

I looked up to meet his eyes, the corners of my lips curling upwards into a smile. "Oh, it’s nothing much. Just spam," I lied.

He let out a soft chuckle. "Yeah, these spam messages are getting out of hand these days."

It was at this moment when an unfamiliar high-pitched voice interrupted us and reached my ears.

"Xavier? Is that you?"
