- Chapter 1: Our Second Anniversary
My eyes widened and I felt my heart skip a beat even though I had expected this.
"...What..?" I stammered, feeling like there was a lump stuck in my throat. "It’s out?" I asked and I found myself sitting up straighter this time as I waited for his response to come through.
"Mhmm... Open the door, I’m outside."
Xavier turned to face me, curiosity swirling in the depths of his eyes. "Aurelia, what is going on?" He asked, but I barely spared him another glance as I simply jumped off the bed and rushed towards the front door, letting Bryce in without wasting any more time.
He finally understood what was happening when his eyes landed on Bryce who walked in carrying his laptop in his arm. "The results... they are out?"
A smirk morphed itself onto Bryce’s lips as he nodded.
Sitting down by the kitchen island, he placed his laptop on the table between us and turned it on, pulling up the document that contained the results, the truth that nobody can deny me now.
Bryce turned to meet my eyes. "Are you ready? Your life might change forever."
I took in a deep breath, nodding calmly despite my racing heart.
"Yeah, I’m ready," I muttered under my breath, bracing myself for a possible life-changing reality.
My eyes were now fixed on the screen, a mixture of anticipation and curiosity swimming in my dark brown eyes as wring my hands together.
This is it. I am finally going to learn the truth and take back everything that belongs to me.
I watched intently with my brows furrowed together in concentration as he clicked on it in the next second. The test report popped up on screen.
A frown crept onto my face, resting between my brows as I found myself staring at a bunch of random numbers and letters all over the report and I couldn’t understand a single thing. Then, my gaze flickered down to glance at the most important thing in the report and a gasp escaped my parted lips.
Probability of Maternity: 99.9999998%
I let out a breath and sank back into my chair. An odd sense of disappointment washed over me in an instant. It turned out that she is my mother, but yet I somehow wished that it wasn’t true. Maybe then I would feel better knowing why she hated me and treated me like I was nothing over the past 20 years and more. At least I could rationalise with myself and understand why she acted the way she acted. But right now, it seemed that she just hated me for being me.
The thoughts and questions continued to buzz in my head, swirling inside of my mind like a damn hurricane.
Seeing the look on my face, Xavier reached over to place a hand on my shoulder, his voice breaking me out of my little reverie
"Hey, how are you feeling?" He asked, his deep voice laced with a hint of concern and worry as he looked over at me. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, how are you?" Bryce chimed in as well with a concerned expression that masked his features.
I let my lips curl upwards into a slight smile. "I’m okay," I said.
There was a moment of silence that lapsed between us before I continued.
"Maybe I’m just a little disappointed..." I confessed this time as my voice trailed off and I lowered my head, my gaze stuck to my wringing hands. "I thought that I was going to have an excuse as to why my own mother hated me all these years. But I guess not," I muttered under my breath.
I stood up from my seat with a blank look that was etched onto my face.
"Where are you going?" Xavier asked with concern.
"I’m going to head back to my room first."
"I found more information on Stella, do you want to hear it?" Bryce asked this time.
"I’m good. You two can talk about it," I murmured. Spinning on my heels, I turned and walked away before either of them could say another word, leaving them engulfed in silence.

Third Person POV
Xavier had just walked up to the front door of his parents’ apartment when his eyes landed on Evelyn who was walking out. Upon seeing her, a frown immediately appeared between his brows, and disdain was written all over his face.
She looked up and they locked eyes from a small distance. The corners of her lips immediately curled upwards into a smile. "Hey, Xavier," she greeted happily. "Didn’t know you were coming to visit your parents too," she commented, the smile still lingering on her lips as she tucked a piece of stray hair behind her ear.
He ignored her greeting as he glared at her and his features hardened visibly.
"What are you doing here at my parents’ place?" He asked, his deep voice carrying a sharp edge to it as his eyes were narrowed into thin slits. He knew for a fact that she was up to no good and that she must have a reason showing up here. "What’s your purpose here?"
She kept that smile on her face, unfazed by the accusation that laced his tone.
"Well, it’s been a while since I met them. I just thought that I wanted to catch up with them," she replied innocently. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"Bullshit," he spat the word out like it was poison in his mouth as he kept his gaze steady. "We broke up long ago, why the hell are you still showing up here? You don’t need to catch up with your ex’s parents," he sneered with a disdainful scorn.
A soft chuckle emerged from her throat this time. "Whoever I want to catch up with is none of your business. You cannot stop me from trying to remain civil with your parents," she retorted with a smug look that was plastered across her face. "Your parents love me. You can’t say the same for Aurelia, can you?" She taunted as a smirk tugged at the corners of her lips.
His eyes grew wide with anger as rage spread within him like a wildfire he couldn’t seem to control. He clenched his fists tightly beside him, even his knuckles were starting to turn white from the pressure.
"You!" He hissed through gritted teeth. "Don’t you dare mutter her name after what you did at the hospital," he warned, his voice heavy with a threat as his face darkened visibly.
His loud voice must have caught his mother’s attention as she came walking towards them with her brows knitted together and a look of concern etched onto her face.
"What’s going on here?" Paula asked from a distance until she finally stopped in front of them. Her eyes lit up and she broke into a grin, lurching forward to put her arms around her son. "Oh, Xavier, you are finally here!" She exclaimed with joy and she couldn’t stop smiling the second she laid eyes on him.
She pulled away from the hug when he barely patted her back like she was some stranger.
With the smile still on her face, her eyes darted between the two of them with a knowing look gleaming in her eyes. It seemed as though she had planned this little encounter.
"I see the two of you have been talking. It’s been a while isn’t it?" She turned to look at Evelyn and their gazes matched. "Evelyn, why don’t you stay for dinner then? Since Xavier is here too, it might be time for a catch up between the two of you."
The words barely left the tip of her tongue when Xavier butted in crudely, his eyes still filled with contempt. "There’s nothing for us to catch up on. I know exactly what she is doing with that miserable and pathetic life of hers."
Paula’s eyes widened with shock before she glared at her son. "Xavier Conner Wilder!" She yelled out loud, piercing through the tension that was brewing in the air between them. "How could you be so rude?"
"Why not? I was just telling the truth," he retorted coldly, barely sparing Evelyn another glance. "She has been really busy these days..." His voice trailed off.
"Am I right?" He asked this time as he locked eyes with Evelyn.
Paula stood in front of Evelyn. "Young man, you better watch your words," She warned. "All I wanted was for all of us to sit down and have a meal, is it that hard?"
Evelyn placed her hand on Paula’s arm, a pitiful look was plastered across her face as she lowered her gaze, averting her eyes. "It’s alright. Xavier doesn’t want me here..." She muttered softly under her breath. She lifted her head, looking up to meet her gaze this time. "You guys can go ahead, after all, I wouldn’t want to intrude on your family dinner."
"Nonsense, you are just like our family," Paula quickly said with a warm smile etched onto her face. "Come join us for dinner," she urged.
"The three of you can enjoy, I will not be staying for dinner," Xavier said with a cold expression that masked his features. He wasn’t going to budge or let his mother guilt trip him into staying. "I’m leaving," he announced, turning around to leave when his mother reached out to grab him by his arm to stop him from walking away.
"I heard that Aurelia lost her child, is that true?"
