Charles let out a loud scoff as he clicked his tongue in annoyance.

"Why? Am I not allowed to?" He challenged with a defiant look gleaming in his eyes and an arrogant expression plastered across his face. "You wouldn’t do it, so maybe I shall do it on our behalf," he sneered, puffing out his chest and trying to look intimidating.

Xavier’s face darkened visibly within the next second as he leaned in closer, their faces now dangerously close to one another.

Sensing the tension that was brewing in the air, some of the officers walked over, trying to pull the two men apart. "Hey, knock it off, this is the police station. Don’t make me arrest you again."

Xavier pushed past the officers, ignoring their commands as he kept his eyes fixated on his father. "Look, I don’t care that you are my father. You don’t touch her, understand?" He warned, his voice low, dropping to a hush whisper as his dark brown eyes burned with a fiery blaze and he clenched his fists tightly beside his body.

"Are you threatening me, Xavier Wilder?!"

"Alright, that’s enough!" The officer’s voice boomed loudly, echoing in my ears.

The next thing I knew, all of us were thrown out of the police station despite their protests. Amidst the chaos, Xavier had grabbed onto my arm, pulling me away when his father’s voice stopped him.

"We are not done yet. Do you think you can just leave with her after what she did?! She is not going anywhere!" He spat as he eyed me with disdain while he held onto Xavier’s arm. "You should have seen what she had done! She slapped your mother! Are you just going to let her behave this way?! If you are not going to discipline her, I will do it!" He yelled, his voice shaking from the anger pulsing through his veins.

"I –" I was about to speak up to defend myself but Xavier beat me to it.

He yanked his arm out of his father’s tight grip, his eyes remained cold and his voice icy as a cold chuckle left his parted lips. "Discipline her? She isn’t your kid. Besides, mum must have said or done something to provoke Aurelia. I don’t believe that she would slap mum for no reason," he defended me without a second thought and an immense feeling of relief washed over me as I became much more at ease as I relaxed my posture.

Paula pushed past her husband and walked towards her son, looking up at him with her wide eyes that were filled with a mixture of sadness, anger and injustice, emotions running wild in her eyes. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

"Do you really think I am that type of unreasonable person? Do you think I’m a horrible person?" She asked, feigning hurt as tears filled the brim of her eyes. When Xavier didn’t reply her, she only let out a sigh. "Fine, sure. Go ahead, believe and defend her all you want, and not your own mother. I’m not important at all," she said with a pitiful look plastered across her face as she feigned innocence.

"Why would I not believe and defend my own wife?" He fought back, his voice remained unwavering. "I know her, she isn’t the type of person to do something like this."

A loud scoff emerged from her throat. "So are you trying to say that I am?" She snarled with a disdainful scorn as she raised her brow at him.

He shrugged his shoulders casually, a nonchalant look appeared on his face. "I don’t know, maybe you are," he replied crudely, uncaring of his mother’s feelings as his harsh words stabbed at her chest. "You know what you have done, I know what you are capable of doing, so don’t act innocent and pitiful, I’m not falling for it," he said resolutely, his face almost void of any other emotions besides the anger that was already burning inside of him.

"Xavier Conner Wilder, that’s your mother. Are you out of your mind?" His father chimed in this time, his voice laced with anger and his cheeks were flushed red. He turned to face me this time as he lifted his finger to point at me, his voice dripping with accusation and contempt. "That woman is the reason you ended up in jail, risking your reputation and your career, is this what you really want?"

"I didn’t do anything," I insisted and watched as Xavier pushed his father’s accusing finger away from me.

"I know what I want," he said, his voice filled with certainty. He reached over for my hand and let our fingers interlocked. "Aurelia is the person I want, nothing is going to change that. So stop blaming her for everything when it was never her fault to begin with."

"So nothing is ever her fault, but it is all my fault?" Paula butted in as her brows were furrowed together to form a frown.

"Nobody said anything about it being your fault," Xavier snapped in frustration. "Not everything is about you, mother," he spat the words out like they were poison in his mouth.

I watched quietly as she snapped her head to the side to look at her husband, disbelief and shock written all over her face. "Are you going to let him speak to me like this?"

Before Charles could even open his mouth to utter a single word, Xavier’s deep voice had broken the silence that stretched between us.

"You guys don’t even know what happened and all you did was to blame Aurelia," he sneered. "I don’t even think you cared or bothered to find out."

Paula rushed over to his side, placing her hand to rest on his arm. "Who says we don’t care? We were just upset and concerned when we received a call about you getting arrested. Why else would we have rushed down here immediately?"

He moved his arm away from his mother, recoiling from her touch as a frown crept onto his face. "If you cared, you would have asked. Not berate and threaten my wife."

His parents laughed. "Berate? Threaten?" She repeated with an incredulous look etched onto her face. "Those are very strong words, my dear. We were just emotional and we let our emotions get the best of us. You know your father can get very agitated at times."

"That’s not an excuse," he replied coldly. "He’s a grown man. He should have known better. And so do you," he sneered as his mother looked at him with wide eyes.

"You need to stop talking to us like this. We are your parents, you better drop that attitude or else -"

"Or else what?" He challenged with a defiance gleam in his dark eyes. "There’s nothing you have against me now, do you?" He retorted. Without sparing his parents another glance, he spun on his heels and walked away, pulling me along as I followed behind him.

"Xavier Conner Wilder! You get back here right now!" His parents demanded through gritted teeth but he continued to ignore their yells as we got into the car and accelerated down the street.

Ever since the last text Serena sent me, I haven’t heard from her at all. Despite the betrayal, deep down inside the hollow of my heart, I couldn’t help but constantly feel at edge and worried. My mind continued to buzz with thoughts and questions were swirling inside my head like a damn hurricane.

The knock on my door jolted me back to reality, breaking me out of my little reverie.

"Come in!"

The door was slowly pushed open and I lifted my head to find myself looking into a pair of familiar eyes. The corners of my lips curved upwards into a warm smile.

"Hey Xavier," I greeted as he closed the door behind him.

"Hey babe, how are you feeling?" He asked as he walked towards me and sat down on the chair from across me, with only my desk standing between us.

I let out a breath. "I don’t know, actually..." I muttered under my breath as I looked down at my wringing hands. "I’m worried about her and the kids," I admitted .

"Aurelia, Serena lured you to the hotel for them and they attacked you. How could you still be worried for someone like her?"

I looked up to meet his eyes and caught a glimpse of the tiny frown that appeared between his brows. "Xavier... I just –"

The words barely left the tip of my tongue when I was interrupted by a loud and frantic knock on the officer door. I whipped my head around in a split second and before I could even say a word, I watched as the door swung open the next moment.

Our receptionist was standing by the door with a flustered expression that masked her features and sweat was dripping down the side of her head as she looked at me, her eyes darting between the two of us.

"Mrs Wilder..." she called out to me, panic evident in her tone.

"Why? What is it?" I questioned with a puzzled look etched onto my face as I raised my brow at her and waited for her answer.

"There’s a man downstairs shouting and demanding to see you!"
