"Aurelia!"

A familiar deep voice sliced through the air and reached my ears, echoing in the office lobby.

My eyes flashed with a hint of recognition and I knew exactly who that voice belonged to as realisation washed over me. I snapped my head around when my eyes landed on none other than Aaron.

I was right.

There was a fiery blaze burning in the depths of his eyes as he stared at me like he wanted me dead, like he wanted me buried six feet under ground. His fists were clenched tightly beside him and even his knuckles were starting to turn white from the pressure, his fingernails digging into his palms. As soon as we locked eyes, he marched over towards me, closing the distance between us in a few large steps.

He stopped before me, his body loomed over me and his face was dangerously close to mine as my heart raced inside my chest but I kept my gaze steady nonetheless. "You have some explaining to do."

"I don’t owe you any explanation. What are you doing here at my office?!" I questioned, my tone carrying a sharp edge to it. By now, the people who were standing around and walking by had already turned their heads to watch us with anticipation hanging on their faces as curiosity swam in their eyes.

Whispers and murmurs started to fill the air this time as they waited to see what would happen next and how the scene would unravel before their eyes. A small crowd started to form around us, surrounding us as the security guards were nowhere to be seen for now.

He let a loud scoff escape from his parted lips as he continued to glare at me, his eyes narrowing into thin slits as his gaze hardened. "What am I doing here?" He asked, spitting the words out like they were poison in his mouth. "I think you should know. Ask yourself what you have done," he hissed.

He paused, continuing before I could even say another word. "And don’t even try to act blur or innocent, that shit doesn’t work on me," he sneered with a disdainful scorn, his eyes filled with hatred and contempt.

I didn’t tear my gaze away as I kept my eyes fixated on him, only letting a cold chuckle emerge from my lips. I tilted my head slightly to the side as I gazed up at him and a smirk tugged at the corners of my lips.

"This is about the divorce papers, isn’t it?" I asked as my voice remained unwavering, almost as if I was mocking and taunting him.

I watched as his eyes widened within the next second, rage spreading through his body like a wildfire he couldn’t seem to control.

"I fucking knew it! I knew it was you!" He shrieked, his sharp voice piercing through the tension that was already brewing in the air between us as he jutted out his finger to point at me. He took a step towards me and I took a step back calmly, maintaining the distance between us. "Why can’t you just mind your own business?! Why did you have to ask my wife to divorce me?! Are you happy now that you ruined our family?!" He screamed loudly, his voice cracking towards the end of the sentence and his face turned red.

I maintained my calm demeanour as I looked at him and we locked eyes. "I didn’t ask her to do anything and I wasn’t the one who ruined the family. Did you forget? You were caught cheating on your wife with another woman, you were the one who destroyed this marriage and your family. Why on earth would she stay with someone like you?"

"So what?!" He retorted brazenly as if he hadn’t done anything wrong."It was just a mistake."

I couldn’t hold back the snicker that left my lips, slipping through the gaps between my fingers. I arched my brow at him. "A mistake?" I repeated, tossing his words right back at him with an incredulous look plastered across my face. "A mistake is accidentally adding salt to your coffee instead of sugar. You cheated on her, that’s your choice, that’s not a mistake. You may fool others but you can’t fool us."

"You... You..." He stammered, his voice shaking with anger as he struggled to get the words out of his throat, trying to defend himself and his actions. "I just did what all men would do. We as men, we have needs you know? All Serena cares about is our daughters. She spends the entire day taking care of them and playing with them, she doesn’t have time for me. She doesn’t even give a damn about me!" He cried out loud, emotions running wild in his dark eyes, the words that left his lips left a bitter taste in his mouth.

Then his gaze softened slightly at the mention of his mistress. "But Stella?" he began as the corners of his lips twisted upwards into a slight smile and he talked about her in a loving and gentle tone. "Stella on the other hand, she is so sweet and caring and she showers me with love and attention. She can give me what my wife couldn’t give. Is it so wrong to crave and want to be loved?" He asked, trying to put on a pitiful front as he looked at the crowd who was only casting judgemental glares at him as they shook their heads in disapproval and disagreement.

"It’s not wrong to want to feel loved by someone," I started. "But cheating? That’s wrong and you know it yourself."

"It’s just a one time mistake, I can change, I will change. Serena cannot divorce me, she can’t!" his voice boomed loudly, reverberating in the office lobby.

I took in a deep breath. "There’s nothing you can say or do to change that fact or justify what you did. And the fact is Serena is divorcing you, aren’t you happy? Just accept it and go be with your mistress. Isn’t that what you wanted? Or are you just upset and angry because your ego cannot take the hit that your wife was the one who initiated the divorce?"

My words must have touched a nerve or something, striking him right where it hurts most.

Within the next moment, I watched as anger and rage flashed past his eyes for a fleeting moment and he clenched his jaw tightly as he glared at me. Before I knew it, he lurched right at me and a loud surprised gasp rose from the crowd. I quickly moved out of the way and before he could even touch me or lay a finger on me the security came rushing over just in time.

The two tall and burly men grabbed Aaron by his arms and twisted them behind his back in one swift motion, holding him back, eliciting a yelp from his lips. He gritted teeth and a look of anger masked his features as he struggled and shoved against their tight hold.

"Let go of me right this second! Let go!" He demanded angrily as his voice boomed loudly. "Karma is going to get you! You can’t just destroy a family like that! Are you not guilty?!" He continued to scream and shout as he kicked around and tried to break-free.

"Let me remind you again, you were the one who destroyed your family when you decided to cheat on Serena with another woman." I spun on my heels, turning around to walk away when I could hear him screaming profanities and hurling threats just behind me. I picked up my pace and walked faster this time, anxiety swirling inside of me.

Impulse clouded his judgement almost immediately and all senses of rationality were long thrown out of the window. "I’m going to kill that bitch, i’m going to fucking kill her!" He screamed at the top of his lungs, breaking his voice.

All of a sudden, he somehow broke out of their tight grip from the pure adrenaline that was pumping through every single vein inside his body. Without a single warning, he dashed over to me and grabbed me by my shoulder with one hand, spinning me around to face him.

But by the time I whipped my head around and came face to face with him as we locked eyes, it was too late.

I didn’t notice it earlier but he had a small pocket knife hiding inside his pocket. Before my mind could even register what was happening, I felt a sharp stinging shot through my body in an instant as a sharp gasp left my lips abruptly and I inhaled deeply. I looked up at him with wide eyes, my features contorted into a pained expression.

Naturally, my hands went down to press on my lower abdomen and I felt a warm thick liquid touch my palms. My eyes flickered down to see thick red blood stained my white blouse and that was when the reality sank in.

He stabbed me.
