More like a pouty spouse, really.

I stepped backward, placed the dessert on the counter, and tried to slip away quickly. Barrett moved faster. His fingers wrapped around my wrist.

"Am I really that terrifying?" Barrett’s voice dropped low, sounding wounded.

I shook my head. "No..."

God, the chemistry between us is absolutely electric!

My eyes drifted to Barrett’s bare chest—that skin, that solid, muscular frame. I wasn’t some inexperienced girl who couldn’t appreciate an attractive man.

Barrett definitely caught me looking. His brooding expression disappeared instantly, replaced by a slow, lazy grin. "Feed me as well," he whispered.

I heard Dorian immediately react from his side, "General Barrett! You’re completely shameless! Mimicking everything! Don’t you have any creativity whatsoever?"

I tucked my hair behind my ear, stalling for time. Barrett was completely different from Dorian. This man radiated pure, untamed masculinity.

The angel and devil in my head resumed their eternal battle. The devil spoke up with its typical temptation.

Why are you so terrified? You’re an adult woman. It’s not like you haven’t experienced everything before! Plus, he’s your lawful husband. Nothing’s wrong with admiring him. Being close to him is entirely within your rights!

He’s human, not some wild creature. We don’t restrain ourselves around animals, but shouldn’t we show some dignity around people?

When did you become so uptight? Who was all over that food slot before? Hmm?

Just try to be a bit refined around someone you’re attracted to...

"Shut up!" I snapped aloud.

Barrett looked puzzled. "What?"

Shit. I voiced my internal debate. Seeing Barrett’s bewildered, slightly wounded look, my cheeks burned. Barrett was absolutely flawless—stunning face and incredible physique.

But refined? That concept didn’t exist in my dictionary. Especially not when the man across from me was my husband.

"You want me to feed you?" I asked.

Barrett looked down at the hand he held. His thumb traced gentle circles on my skin, then he gave a subtle, quiet nod.

My lips curved upward. I freed one hand, gathered some frosting, and extended it toward him. "Come get it." I smirked.

I even impressed myself.

Damn, that’s my style.

Barrett’s eyes sparkled. Two fluffy animal ears emerged from his still-wet hair. He paused briefly for half a moment, then retreated slightly. His expression softened unexpectedly. He leaned forward and gently drew my frosting-coated finger into his mouth.

The action was clearly seductive, yet Barrett executed it with grace. Whether intentional or not, the moment my finger slipped between his lips, I distinctly felt the gentle caress of his tongue.

"Tasty."

Barrett released a low, soft laugh, his gaze warm and intense enough to consume me.

For the first time with anyone besides Silas, I turned and ran.

Dammit. Who would’ve imagined an animal you’d see in any ordinary zoo could become this seductive in human form?

My ears flushed crimson. I’d attempted to tease him and got thoroughly outplayed.

I glanced down, preparing to wheel the cart toward Alistair, when a piercing central alarm sounded. Protective shields dropped over every patient room almost simultaneously.

Before I could determine whose spiritual energy was losing control, a surge of power enveloped me. I raised my hand. This fragrance... it belonged to Silas’s Sovereign Territory.

Silas always carried a subtle rose aroma, and his abilities held the same scent.

I moved the cart aside, puzzled. I’d researched spiritual energy breakdown incidents online. Theoretically, at Silas’s current level, he shouldn’t experience another episode.

My wood ability remained stable. A low, anguished sound emerged from Chamber Seven—but due to the Sovereign Territory, only I could detect it.

Inside Chamber Seven, Silas lay sprawled on his back on the couch, turned away from the window. I couldn’t see inside. I called his name, but received no response.

All I heard was Silas’s harsh, irregular breathing. He sounded like he was suffering tremendously.

I was contemplating checking through the food slot when Silas’s voice finally cracked out.

"Leave!"

The words were pushed out through gritted teeth, filled with desperate control. They sounded brutal, but beneath them, I caught a broken, trembling whimper and uncontrollable gasping.

"Are you... injured?" I asked.

The moment those words escaped, I clearly witnessed threads of reddish vapor leaking from beneath the ward door, followed by the tips of two rabbit ears.

Silas released a muffled moan, followed by the sound of ripping material.

I frowned. What’s happening?

Spiritual energy breakdown? It doesn’t sound like that.

"Elara... leave here... immediately..."

Silas spoke, then released another tortured growl. Hearing it, I slowly understood what was occurring.

Is Silas experiencing heat?

That bastard. He’s pretending again?

If he genuinely wanted me to leave, why trap me here with his Sovereign Territory? He can’t even fake rejection properly. Such an amateur performance.

But if Dr. Pendragon wants to perform... then I’ll participate.

This time, my inner angel and devil didn’t need to argue. I raised an eyebrow and retrieved my mischievous supplies. I loosened my hair as well.
