My jaw dropped, eyes going wide with pure, incredulous joy.

Plop. Another tear fell, making Julian twitch slightly as it landed.

No freaking way.

Was this actually happening? Merman tears really did become pearls? And sea demon tears too?

The craftsmanship, the flawless roundness, that gorgeous shine... this was premium quality stuff.

I completely forgot about Kaelen, dropping to my knees to gather up the pearls with obvious glee.

The little dragon cocked his head, totally bewildered. Come on—pet him! Why was she going after someone else’s tears instead?

The small sea demon was just as confused.

Julian’s POV

Right then, Julian figured out his secret weapon. Seeing Elara’s absolutely thrilled face—she had to be crazy about him! Not only had she hunted him down in a place like this, but she was also treasuring his tears like they were priceless jewels.

His earlier insecurities were completely wrong. He’d been underestimating himself. He had his own special talents.

So before even touching his food, Julian dug up every heartbreaking moment from his years of existence. He concentrated hard, tears streaming down one after another, until that final drop hit the ground and Elara finally got to her feet, looking completely satisfied.

Then what?

"Hey, don’t look so miserable. I know I cooked fish, but come on—survival of the fittest, right? You’ll taste how amazing it is in just a second, I swear it’ll change those sad tears into pure hunger."

"Here, it’s ice-cold. Drink this—you need to stay hydrated."

I said as I produced an enormous milkshake cup. Julian stared at it in shock. His mate was actually concerned about him!

But then he noticed Kaelen had gotten one too. Wait, hold on—Julian quickly spotted the differences. First, his cup was definitely fuller. Second, I’d delivered it to him by hand.

Unlike Kaelen’s, which arrived via robot. His mate was maintaining distance from other males. She was completely loyal to him.

"All set?"

The butler bot gave a nod. Before leaving, I couldn’t resist stealing a few more looks at Kaelen. God, that beast form sipping milkshake was just impossibly adorable. Yet another day, yet another desperate urge to cuddle him.

After wrapping up wards one and two, I wheeled the cart toward Chamber Three’s entrance. Dorian straightened up, eyes flickering with nerves. Sensing my focused attention on him from his peripheral vision, he bashfully looked away, pulse hammering with worry...

Oh god, oh god. It had to be because his beast form was too bizarre. Dorian didn’t dare turn back around, terrified he’d spot revulsion written across my face.

Instead, when I saw his current shape, I went completely still for a beat—then lost my mind internally!

"Wow, your beast form..."

Dorian seemed to freeze completely, his whole body going rigid.

But then I burst out enthusiastically, gesturing at the twin tails swishing behind him, "One of those ancient mythology texts was actually accurate! It really did mention some legendary creatures having double tails! Your Highness, could you spin around for me?"

That tone. That voice?

Dorian slowly, rigidly turned his head to face me. So... she wasn’t repulsed by his strange looks?

Not only wasn’t I disgusted—I was completely captivated.

This was like stepping into ancient legends! That slight upward inflection at the end seemed to completely transform Dorian. All the shame and inadequacy melted away from his posture.

Everyone else labeled him a freak, an abomination. Only I called him legendary. Dorian’s ears flushed so crimson they looked ready to bleed. He quickly spun away and dove face-first into the nearby bean bag chair.
