Control panel alerts echoed through the facility, one notification after another. The unexpected good news left everyone stunned.

When my singing faded away, that electric sensation everyone had experienced vanished too.

Finnian released a soft whimper before yanking the curtain shut across his doorway. Seconds later, the young man crumpled onto his sofa. His fox ears twitched faintly as he let out a quiet hum. He gazed down at his large, bony hands and grinned.

"It’s been forever since I was human," he murmured.

"Finnian, everything alright?" Alistair shouted.

"Just peachy," Finnian chuckled softly. "I shifted back into human form."

"Holy shit, you’re actually human again!" Barrett yelled. "Figured you were some busted beast who’d never walk upright again."

Finnian raised his eyelids slowly, his voice dropping low. "General Barrett, maybe work on being less cutting and dial back the cruelty."

Finnian carried mixed blood, which made his spiritual energy unique compared to the others. Dorian dealt with the identical situation.

None of them realized Finnian and Dorian were half-brothers, sharing the same mother and the same hidden affliction.

Barrett got shut down and went quiet. But since they all shared living space, Finnian’s recovery from spiritual collapse and human transformation was incredible news.

Following Finnian’s pleasant shock, the others in their rooms celebrated silently. With my vine bracelet, they’d all regain human form eventually.

With Thorne suspended, Vance and Jasper weren’t doing much better. Fortunately, they’d been shipped to Waste-mire World, so they dodged identical punishment—but their circumstances remained awful.

They’d burned through so much money that they had to return to work immediately. So the pair, reeking of sewage, wrapped in medical tape, and stinking horribly, reluctantly shuffled back to their positions.

Everyone and everything avoided them wherever they wandered. Even the mechanical dogs kept their distance—only actual dogs seemed unbothered.
