Silas was lazily drying his damp hair with a towel, pretending he had no clue I’d arrived with his dinner. The moment our eyes locked, he spun around with theatrical shock.

Giving me a flawless view of his back muscles.

The instant he turned, Silas shot a sideways glance, his lips curving into a smug smile. He stretched toward the clothes on the shelf, and I gulped hard from my spot by the food slot.

God, that reach is incredible.

"Excuse me?" Silas asked, though I could tell he’d heard every word.

"Nothing. Here’s your dinner," I mumbled, staring at the floor, too mortified to meet his eyes.

That damn rabbit was definitely doing this on purpose.

"It’s a health tonic," I explained. "Good for your system." My thoughts began warring with each other.

The devil on my shoulder won again, but my conscience managed to wrestle back control.

"Dr. Pendragon, are you married?" I asked.

Silas went rigid, clearly stunned by my boldness. Didn’t I already know the answer?

He stayed silent, just smiling until my cheeks burned crimson. Then he murmured, "You’re welcome to have feelings for me, Ms. Sterling..."

I couldn’t even recall how I stumbled out of Chamber Seven. Every visit, his devastating looks scrambled my brain completely.

Walking back, I passed the white fox’s quarters. Finnian was dining with perfect manners. Next came Alistair—the snake had pulled his blanket over his head, back turned to the door, hiding from view.

Barrett and Dorian were cut from the same cloth. But Barrett took it further. Even in animal form, he wore a napkin while eating.

Dorian had one too, of course.

No surprise they were housed across from each other.

In Chamber One, Kaelen had already finished. The little dragon had devoured everything like a hurricane—his plate gleamed spotless.

I had to stifle a laugh. They all played at being refined, but their licked-clean dishes betrayed them every single time.

The highest praise a chef could receive.

When Kaelen noticed I was leaving, he gazed at me with pure longing—he wouldn’t see me again until tomorrow.

Julian wasn’t certain how Elara felt about him anymore, so he retreated deeper into the water when she approached. Elara paused in her tracks.

Kaelen perked up—only to realize she wasn’t focused on him.

"What are you hiding from?" Elara teased, crouching beside Julian’s door with a small yellow duck in hand.

Julian remained silent.

"She knows exactly why."

Elara cocked her head. When Julian refused to surface, she straightened up, tossed the duck inside, and rushed away.

Julian’s heart crumbled. "She just left? Why doesn’t she show me any patience?"

The devastated fish snatched up a mirror, studied his reflection, then hurled it down. He turned toward Kaelen across the hall. "Am I hideous?"

Kaelen snorted. "Do you honestly think that’s a wise question to ask me?"

"You flirt with my mate right in front of me, then want my opinion?"

"You’re right across from me—who else should I ask?" Julian pressed.

Kaelen raised a claw. "Don’t even start."

"You’re my competition. You’re trying to steal her from me right under my nose. You’re a scheming fish."

Both turned away from each other, refusing to speak.
