Chapter 8: Editor

Chapter 8

Ashton rubbed his chin, pondering deeply by closing his eyes.

After a while, he still couldn’t get a definite answer. He tried to tear a page, but it didn’t budge. He tried writing a drop of his blood; instead, it healed his bleeding finger. He flipped the book upside down to find if anything was written on it. A book title or the address of the publishing house. Unfortunately, the cover was as blank as the pages.

In the end, Ashton couldn’t help saying with annoyance. "Does this want me to write my own autobiography?"

At that moment, the book shone with blinding light, illuminating the starry sky. It opened itself to the first page, and the pen lay on top, waiting to be picked and written.

Ashton was dumbfounded. He didn’t expect it to be so simple. He grumbled to himself before picking up the pen. "If you had just put the title ’Glorious Life Of The Smartest and Handsomest Man In The Universe,’ I would have instantly guessed it. You made me bite my finger to bleed profusely. Do you know how hard it was to make that decision!? It hurt so much."

He wrote his entire history as he grumbled. From his birth to transmigrating into his favorite book. He wrote about the days where he learned to bicycle, go fishing, and so on without his father. There was no one to guide him except his mother, who also died when he was at the age of 11 from cancer. The days when he secretly left an orphanage to pray at his mother’s grave whenever he missed her. When he was drowning mentally while also doing a 9-5 job, he discovered a book named Sanctuary of Blemished Divines. His favorite book that helped him escape reality and resound his name. He self-inserted himself as the protagonist and did things that he had dreamt many nights about, and this time with a beautiful story to back him up. It made him feel a profound feeling that he knew he could never experience. Then dying inside the library with the book in his hand and transmigrating inside the world that he imagined so many times.

As Ashton kept on writing, he found he couldn’t change the story nor deliberately write the information he knew. Like the time he peed on a bed in a guest’s house or changed from getting bullied to bullying the bullies. If he did these, no words would appear.

After an hour or so, he finally reached the part where he found his Inner Bon and was about to spark it. When he arrived here and wanted to extend to his heart’s desire, once again no words appeared.

’It wants everything I have ever done without any falsehood. I do not know the future, so if I write about it according to my imagination, it counts as false.’ Ashton got the gist of this book in this writing journey. ’Now, let’s see what I get.’

The book closed itself, and the pen went into the pocket. Then it shrank and turned into a speck of light, shooting inside Ashton’s chest in milliseconds. Ashton wasn’t surprised, as he had read about it happening many times.

As the book resided inside him, the information about the book and the ability he got gradually revealed itself in a gamified manner.

[ Editor: You can change 10% of any attack, skill, or ability of your target and yours according to your will.]

[ The book can be written after reaching every Life Ring. After the new addition of the story, the power of the ability will increase. ]

At first, Ashton didn’t think much, but after he read his ability can grow, his eyes widened in shock. "I actually have the legendary growth-type!"

There are many abilities in this world that are stationary. Their stats and mechanics are static, but because it is fixated, if it is utilized properly, they can get a strong early start while growth types, which are as rare as getting a Karambit Blue Gem pattern number 387.

Growth-type abilities appear weak at the start despite having good mechanics and stats, but in later stages they are on a completely different level. You have to think a million times before attacking them.

And the protagonist in this book also had growth ability while also being a little too strong at the start.

Ashton, who was feeling arrogant getting his ability, shuddered when thinking of the protagonist’s abilities. Whenever he read the new changes in the protagonist’s ability, he cursed the author for making him too broken. He had also written multiple articles on various social media about how the author is ruining the story by always giving the protagonist too much power. While many agreed with him, they continued to read the book, and so did Ashton, praising the author and completely forgetting about the articles they wrote.

"Let’s calm down and try to stay as low profile as possible." As Ashton relaxed, his vision blanked all of sudden.

Regaining his vision, he saw Butler Shen and Anastasia standing before him, looking at him like they were seeing a monster.

Ashton knew why they were like this, so he had to start acting again. He had to say he had good acting capability; maybe he should have started his career instead of slaving away at the factory.

"Umm... is there anything wrong?" Ashton nervously asked. Looking at them with waryness.

They snapped away from their state simultaneously.

Butler Shen spoke first. "Congratulations on sparking your Inner Bon and finally being a Ringer. We were just surprised that you were able to spark your Inner Bon so fast."

Instead of bringing the Chaos Shard, Butler Shen’s heart felt more at peace speaking of sparking Inner Bon despite it being very fast!

"Thank you. Without the baron’s help. I could never have hoped to become a Ringer." Ashton spoke with great gratitude. Standing, he clutched his chest and shook his head as if he were ashamed of his incompetence and the luck of having this opportunity granted to him.

However, Anastasia didn’t care about this. She directly asked without beating around the bush.

"Tell me, what is your Inner Bon like? What does your ability do? And can it grow?"
