Chapter 10: Female Leads Are Overrated!

Chapter 10

"Ashton, I knew my eyes weren’t deceiving me. When I saw you, I knew you had great talent." Chest puffed up, Krestic patted Ashton’s shoulder.

"Sir, thank you for giving me a chance. Without you I would be sulking under the drainage of the southern street." Ashton said with reverence. ’You saw bullshit. You only wanted a controlling person.’

Krestic chuckled. "Good, good. You also know how to stay humble. It is rare to see it in youngsters these days."

"Father, stop."

Only after being reprimanded by Anastasia did Krestic stop. He took a scroll and gave it to Ashton. "This is the House of Superbia’s heirloom. Only those trusted by the house can get access to it. I hope you don’t betray my belief."

"Sir, I promise I won’t." Ashton took the scroll in his hand; at that moment, he took a peek at the scroll’s name. Inwardly Ashton’s face darkened a little. ’What heirloom? This dogshit is given to every ordinary house member.’

Ashton was once again speechless by Krestic’s shamelessness. The scroll’s name might sound awesome—Heaven and Earth Connectivity—but it was the most basic Life Essence cultivating method.

"Now, I will properly tell you about your job. My daughter will be enrolling in the Ironheart Academy at Sunset City, which is under Duke Ironheart. After a week, you will depart with my daughter and serve her properly. You will not interfere with her life there except when you feel there is something suspicious." Krestic warned somberly. "So in these seven days, you will train under Butler Shen. Anastasia, you too. I don’t want to see you always eating and slaving away your time locked in the room."

"Okay, Father." Anastasia agreed begrudgingly. It was unknown if it was because she had to train or had to train together with Ashton.

Krestic didn’t press his daughter, as he knew how rebellious she was, the complete opposite of his eldest daughter.

Afterwards, everyone went their own ways.

Ashton trained with Anastasia, getting familiar with his ability and increasing his fighting skill. He decided to practice using a sword. Pondering properly, he felt his ability could be summarized by two words—alteration.

In a battle when a sudden change occurs in your skills or ability, that sudden hesitation can be fatal. So a sword was the best weapon for swift action in close and medium range.

As Ashton gradually trained, he was surprised to find he had fully utilized his basic martial talent. Now mastering basic swordsmanship, he was also very proficient with other weapons, footwork, and hand-to-hand combat.

Ashton figured out it was not because of only basic martial talent; the main factor was Limitless Eyes.

Limitless Eyes broke down everything to him thoroughly, and watching others’ demonstrations, he could find the fault point easily. It also helped him utilize his ability very thoroughly. He could see what kind of change can affect someone the most.

In this period of time, some development happened that Ashton didn’t expect. He became best friends with Krestic’s eldest daughter. In the story, she had a tragic ending, choosing to trust her father to the end, which led to her demise.

Ashton sympathized with her most. She is just an innocent girl who had no grand ambition, just wanting to stand by her father and sister till the very end. He remembers the words she spoke when questioned by Krestic.

"Why pursue something illusory that I do not know I can reach when I already have the most priceless gift in the world."

So, when she arrived at the training ground to see her sister every day and to see her royal retainer, he began to gradually befriend her. Talking to each other every day, they met and bonded gradually.

Ashton got a little infatuated by her. While he sympathized with her, he couldn’t deny her beauty. She looked like an older version of Anastasia while having a softer expression and mature body like an older sister next door that you always have a crush on.

The day of departure for Sunset City.

Ashton had a leather bag on his left shoulder and a sword strapped onto the right side of his waist. He was wearing a leather jacket with chain mail underneath, semi-iron gloves on both of his hands, and brown boots.

On the other hand, Anastasia wore a long sky-blue-colored gown with see-through gloves. Her hair tied together into a stylish bun that Ashton didn’t know of. Now, she looked like a princess, a person from royalty.

However, Ashton’s eyes weren’t on her but on her older sister—Yalina.

Yalina wore a white gown that was made of silk, showcasing her curves proudly. Red lipstick on her made Ashton want to take a bite at it. Her hair was tied together in a braid and made into a bun.

Making everyone think of a newly wed woman seeing off her husband.

Ashton tried his best to fight the urge to look at her thoroughly, but he knew if he did it would be his last day in this world.

Krestic’s mood was already sour hearing his beloved eldest daughter being so close to the royal retainer he hired. Now seeing it in person, he felt his blood boil with anger. It’s like someone is stealing precious treasure in broad daylight.

Yalina was at the same height as Ashton’s. She puffed out her chest a little and said to Ashton. "Be sure to take care of my sister and come back fast."

Ashton’s eyes widened seeing the peaks as he felt something rising inside him. He took a deep breath and looked into big, mesmerizing eyes. "I will, Yalina."

’This bastard is directly calling her by her name!’ Krestic was beyond shocked now. How can someone from royal lineage let a servant directly call them by their name? And from the tone it made one think they were childhood friends.

Krestic muttered softly under his breath. "This bastard only deserves to die by my hand. How dare he ensnare my virtuous daughter?"
