Ironheart Academy, Dean’s Office.
Bang!
"What were you thinking about making that decision, Dean Hong Ling!?" A middle-aged man with a long beard angrily shouted, slapping the table that had Dean Hong Ling resting his hands.
Opposite, Dean Hong Ling showed no reaction. Instead, he wiped away the drops of spit on his face and proclaimed with great confidence. "Why are you getting so angry, Vice Dean Herbon? Don’t underestimate the new generation of talents. They have a fire inside them which can incinerate anything!"
A beautiful, motherly woman with red hair who was on Vice Dean Harbon’s right side spoke. "Dean Hong Ling, this is no joking matter. Filth Drops are not playgrounds meant for having fun. It is the epitome of a slaughter house. If we enter Filth Drops matching our Life Rings, even we can’t guarantee we can come out alive, and you, on the other hand, are sending new students who have never experienced life-or-death battles in their lives. Hell, some might be holding a weapon for the first time."
The red-haired woman was another Vice Dean, Laylia. She became gradually furious the more she spoke. She didn’t want the young people to lose their lives just wanting to enter an academy for study. She felt the Dean took great advantage of their naivety.
Lastly, a young man on Vice Dean Herbon’s left side spoke calmly, agreeing with Vice Dean Laylia. "Dean Hong Ling, we know you make some questionable decisions, but we choose to turn a blind eye because they couldn’t hurt anyone. However, who could have imagined while we were busy you made such a terrible mistake? Do you know what those nobles will say if we have their heirs lose their lives under our watch? We might get capital punishment with the emperor directly supervising under his watch."
This young man was the last and newest vice dean that the Ironheart Academy recruited. He was Yuki, growing on an island in the sea.
These were the three Vice Deans of Ironheart Academy, who supervised the entire academy and were the senior teachers. Everyone reveres them close to the dean!
Seeing his vice deans acting like this, Dean Hong Ling finally let go of his face full of smiles. A grave underlying tone floated in his eyes, and with a sombre face, Dean Hong Ling said it. "This is for the greater good and for the future of this word!"
"Future of this world?"
The three vice deans became extremely confused. Of course, the better the students, the better is the future for this world, but why did their dean say it like that?
"You are new and don’t have any connection. It is understandable why I am speaking like this."
Dean Hong Ling stood up from his seat and walked in front of the window besides him. He looked at the entrance of the Filth Drop, tightly guarded by the instructor. Many senior students appeared, curious about the commotion that happened today.
"Have you heard of the Sundering?"
The vice deans looked at each other bewildered, not knowing what Dean Hong Ling was talking about.
Dean Hong Ling didn’t turn his head behind, as he expected them not to know anything about it. He continued. "The Sundering is a once-in-a-million-year event that swept through the entire world. The sky above us opens its curtain to welcome travellers from another world. Some with goodwill and many with ill will. The barrier between the Discarded Realm and the Origin Realm also fades away, almost becoming one as a whole. At this age, no one knows the purpose of the Sundering; we only know it through the ancient text left behind by sages."
Finally, Dean Hong Ling turned behind, looking at the grim faces of his vice deans. "So, you understand what this means? The travellers, no matter how good they may be, are outsiders. They also carry the will of unknown deities in the stars. The Filths that are locked behind the wall will be seen everywhere. At that moment, there will be no one to worry about but themselves."
The vice deans took a deep breath. They knew their dean was weird and would talk nonsense, but they had never seen him be this serious. The tone he was speaking with was anything like him. Vice Dean Herbon and Laylia, being most familiar with the dean, choose to believe him.
Vice Dean Herbon, the person with the most experience of the world and wielding great wisdom, asked. "Dean, how much damage will the Sundering cause? Is it that serious that we are already sending the freshers to death?"
Dea Hong Long didn’t directly answer his question; instead, he closed his eyes and softly spoke. "When my teacher first taught me about this, I was also sceptical, sceptical for years. But in recent years, the weirdness I have been seeing, the exponential rise of heretics and the increased number of Filth Drops popping up everywhere – these signs of the precognition of the Sundering made me believe in my teacher."
Vice Dean Herbon and Laylia had their already-held belief solidified, while Vice Dean Yuki was forced to believe in shock. Because Dean Hong Ling’s teacher was a legendary figure.
Not just in the kingdom but the entire world. His fame is spread everywhere.
For a figure of that stature to utter these words, they had to believe it!
"So, I asked my teacher if we are about to be unfortunate enough to witness the Sundering ourselves. Do you know what he said?"
Dean Hong Ling opened his eyes, devoid of light.
"The Sundering is a torturous punishment to this world. Its intensity increases every Sundering that passes. The last Sundering, the world was barely alive. It almost cost the lives of everyone to end the Sundering. So, my disciple, with everything I taught you, it should be enough to keep your life intact. If you could stay alive, then don’t forget your teacher, and boast about me to the future generation too. If... they have the luck to be...born."
