"Do you even understand what you just said? What do you mean by ’Is the Great Knight of Arania alive?’ That one is the symbol of our kingdom! The sole figure protecting us from the heretics and demons!"
"Do you want to die? I think you should go down on your knees and beg for forgiveness!"
The two knights stood before Ahston, their stern gaze landing on Ashton’s face.
Without any hesitation, Ashton went down on his knees and cried out loud. "I am sorry. Please, show mercy. In the nightmare I saw... I saw the Great Knight of Arania dead! Their body hanging outside the city wall! I am sad and deeply worried for our nation! Please tell me, are they still alive? Please, I beg you!"
Everyone became silent. They looked at each other and saw confusion on each other’s faces.
"Oh, so that was the nightmare he had."
"I thought he had a nightmare about his parents. However, it looks like he is deeply scared about the fate of our nation."
"Yeah, I too would be scared to my wits if I saw the Great Knight of Arania die before my eyes."
The knights communicated briefly through their eyes before speaking. "Don’t be scared. Nothing has happened to the Great Knight of Arania. They are doing well and are guarding the capital alongside his king."
Ashton wiped his nonexistent tears and spoke with great hope. "Thank you, thank you. I knew nothing would happen to the Great Knight of Arania!"
Afterwards, he began to mutter to himself. "But why did I have such a nightmare? Sir, perhaps you think some heretics are installing fear among us?"
The knights were surprised to see Ashton come to this conclusion. Truth to be told, they were also thinking of the same thing. Because they were in public, they didn’t voice their opinion. Now that someone had said it out aloud, they had to appease the crowd.
"Everyone, listen!"
Before the crowd could discuss among themselves, one of the knights gathered everyone’s attention.
"What this little guy has experienced is something many others have experienced too. There is a new cult in the town that is installing fear in the night. So, whenever you have any kind of nightmare, just think of it as one of the heretics’ doings."
"Now, disperse."
Everyone finding their answers quickly left the place for their work and also to spread the news of this new heretic cult.
With no one present, one of the knights patted Ashton’s shoulder. "Follow us."
Ashton nodded his head and followed them without any complaint. Because he knew the thing he said was too absurd. He was basically talking bad about a nation’s spiritual figure. However, it also provided him with solid proof of where he was at.
Ashton walked behind the knights while curiously observing his surroundings. He had been transmigrated inside his favorite book, so he had to see everything he could.
Ashton saw stone houses standing on both side acting like fences. Many stalls could be seen with materials and items unknown to someone without extensive knowledge. He watched closely because he remembers some of the items in this world might look ordinary but have conceptual-level abilities. Only those who could exploit them properly were able to reach the top.
Unfortunately, Ashton could not identify any of the items from the description he recalled from the book.
Shaking his head in disappointment, he decided to just follow the knights. ’I do not know if the description is really helpful or if I just can’t picture the items from the description properly.
After a little while, they reached a mansion adorned in silver chains. A massive ash-colored flag fluttered on top of the mansion with an eagle insignia. One could see the eagle holding a spear and a halberd in both of its talons.
Ashton’s eyes flickered seeing that. ’Silver, eagle, spear, and halberd... The House of Superbia and the knights mentioned the baron. Please, don’t be what I am thinking.’
A slight apprehension could be seen in Ashton’s eyes, yet he didn’t show it. People with supernatural power in this world could discern the slightest fluctuation of emotion. He didn’t know what the knights could think, and he didn’t want to risk it. He just arrived in this world and did not want to end it before he could even see anything properly.
Fortunately, it looks like they were just low-level knights as they just kept walking without looking back.
After a while, they arrived in front of an office room on the second floor.
Knocking on the door thrice, a smooth, mature voice came out.
"Come in."
Opening the door, Ashton first saw a middle-aged man sitting behind the table. He had smooth silver hair tied behind in a ponytail. A warm smile radiated from his face, and with the soft stubble on his face, it made him look like a newly wed man in the neighborhood.
Ashton also put a smile on his face; however, his face was far from that. He was inwardly crying out loud. ’You’ve got to be kidding me! What I feared the most happened! I met the first major villain of the book just landing!’
"Baron Krestic, we have brought a man who might have encountered a heretic." One of the knights reported with his right hand on his chest.
The smile on Krestic’s face disappeared. He solemnly asked. "Oh, what happened? Tell me slowly about this and everything else you encountered too."
"Yes, sir. It’s like this." Afterward, the knight elaborated in detail. First reporting the sightings of other heretics, then Ashton’s.
Meanwhile, Ashton’s right eye twitched. ’Brother, do you know who you are speaking to? A villain! And the major villain that kickstarted the protagonist’s journey properly. Also the heretics you keep mentioning, they are nothing but a candle flame in front of your baron!’
After the knights finished their reporting, Krestic said with a pensive gaze. "Thank you for your work. Keep on watch and report anything weird you find or see."
"It’s our honor, sir." With their right hand on their chest, they both bowed. One could hear the excitement in their voice. Getting praise from this baron was everything from them.
"You can leave." Krestic nodded his head, acknowledging their bow.
Straightening their bodies, they left the room without even sparing a glance at Ashton.
With the door closing, only Ashton and Krestic were left alone.
In this situation, Ashton could merely say in his mind. ’F##k!’
