Chapter 59: Chapter 12 New Subjects, “Power of Earth

The sunlight gradually became less sufficient, and the shadows of the metasequoia trees fell into the study, slowly moving with the sunset.

Char glanced through the window at the garden.

The Star Worm, Betty, and Auson were chasing butterflies together.

The Star Worm emitted joyful chimes intermittently, and Betty also let out pleasant laughter and calls, with even Auson occasionally giving a hearty laugh.

The Clover Mantis stood by, watching quietly with a smile on its face.

As Char examined the condition of the log cabin, the Clover Mantis had followed him to prevent any danger, not leaving his side.

Only after thoroughly confirming that the place was safe, did it fly out of the cabin, then watched the others play from the sidelines.

Char closed his book after spending the entire afternoon reading several books, gaining a much better understanding of this world.

He glanced at the bookcase and the diary next to it, intending to pack up and take them, but he hesitated halfway through.

The selected books and the torn diary in the bookcase were specifically picked by the Winged Elf Mage, undoubtedly crucial, perhaps containing the keys to surviving this undead crisis and determining whether he could become a spellcaster.

These were not things he could afford to lose.

Though he viewed the entire Garden Secret Realm as his possession and planned to eventually empty everything into the “Castle,”

if possible, he even wished to fully transfer the Secret Realm into the “Castle,” making it a part of it.

But for now, he was unable to do so.

Therefore, it might be better to leave everything here for now.

The Garden Secret Realm had existed for many years, possessing sufficiently strong defenses, and in terms of safety, it was far more secure than his carriage. Before making adequate preparations, it was better to leave everything here.

Even the carriage should be brought over.

As dusk fell, Char left the Garden Secret Realm with Betty and others.

Before leaving, Char couldn’t help but look back one last time; under the sunset, the whole garden was bathed in a golden-red hue.

Compared to his current carriage, the mage’s cottage offered better living conditions, was more comfortable, and was safer. If possible, he truly wanted to move in right away.

But the carriage was the foundation of his establishment, his base, his golden touch; thus, he couldn’t abandon the carriage for the mage’s cottage.

Moreover, although the carriage couldn’t compare to the mage’s cottage now, and it might still fall short even after possible upgrades, as long as he continued upgrading, it would eventually surpass the mage’s cottage and become a true Mobile Castle.

By then, not only would it meet the living conditions of the mage’s cottage, but the Castle could even incorporate the entire Garden Secret Realm as part of itself.

So, after one last look, Char left without turning back.

The green wall automatically parted, opening a gateway. After Char and his group passed through, it quickly closed behind them.

“Betty, do you recognize these vines?”

Looking at the variety of undead engulfed by the green wall, their soul fires extinguished, Char asked Betty, the Flower Fairy.

She knew many plants and might have an answer.

“Hmm…”

Betty flew up and down in front of the green wall, observing carefully, but still couldn’t give an answer.

The vines forming the green wall looked no different from other common vines in the forest, with their leaves having a five-claw shape, resembling those of maple or sycamore trees.

The only noticeable difference was that these leaves were more translucent than those of other vines, as if sunlight had fused within them.

“Betty can’t figure it out,”

Betty said troubledly after a thorough observation.

Char wasn’t too concerned, knowing that if he didn’t know now, he would eventually find out once he learned the Elf Language and read the diary left by the Winged Elf Mage.

Next, he did not leave immediately, but with a light few steps, he leaped onto a nearby large tree and glanced into the green wall.

As expected, he saw no cabin, no water-pine trees, and no garden, only the trees, shrubs, grass, and fallen leaves that were indistinguishable from the surroundings.

This small piece of forest was unremarkable except for the vine wall that surrounded it, composed of green vines.

If someone were to pass by here, they wouldn’t notice anything unusual unless they intended to cut through the wall to take a shortcut.

‘I wonder if it’s an illusion or if a space has been created.’

Gazing at the woodland enclosed by the green wall, Char thought to himself.

If it were an illusion, that would be understandable, but if a space had been created, then the power of this Winged Elf Mage might be far greater than he had imagined.

However, Char felt it was most likely the former.

Although he was not clear on what high-level powers in this world were capable of, a mage who could create a spatial realm out of thin air would hardly be driven to death by a minor undead crisis, right?

Moreover, judging from the furnishings in the small cabin, this Winged Elf Mage did not seem to be a legendary figure—there was too great a discrepancy.

To verify his speculation, Char tossed a stone he had picked up casually towards the interior of the green wall.

Then, the stone seemed to meet an invisible barrier, being repelled back before it even entered the range of the green wall.

‘Just as I thought! It’s an illusion!’ Char thought to himself.

This secret realm seemed to be akin to a barrier, combined with the special vine plants in front of him to form the Garden Secret Realm.

The secret realm’s deceptive power was not very strong against non-undead creatures. Anyone passing directly through it would definitely notice something unusual. However, for the undead, the secret realm not only had strong deceptive power but the undead wouldn’t realize the existence of this realm till their demise.

“Let’s go.”

Seeing that the sun was about to set, and there was still quite a distance to go home, Char spoke to Betty, Auson, and the others.

In the twilight, Char hastened towards the direction of the carriage. By the time he got home, the sky had completely darkened.

Through the dim woods, two spots of orange light pierced the twilight, caughting Char’s eyes.

Beyond these two spots of orange, he could also see the light leaking through the gaps in the windows—the Lantern Fireflies had lit the lamps inside the carriage and those hanging from two poles outside the carriage.

Looking at the lantern lights in the twilight, Char couldn’t help but reveal a sincere smile on his face.

That feeling of returning home to find the lamplight on and someone waiting was just too wonderful.

What made Char even happier was that, as he returned to the “Castle” with Auson, the system finally recognized that he had gained another subject, and at that moment, his senses sharpened once again.

In a trance, he could even “see” the path of the wind.
