Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Autumn Night Breeze, A Warm Scene

The Wind Winged Horse trotted over, pulling the carriage, while the Clover Mantis flew back, and Char came to the side of the carriage carrying a nail head hammer.

The hammers reeked to high heaven, and with Char there right by, several flies were already circling and dancing around them; he did not dare to bring them back into the carriage without washing them first.

“Lotus Leaf Frog! Help me wash these nail head hammers!”

Char delegated the task to the Lotus Leaf Frog, then washed his hands using a bit of Lotus Leaf Spring water before boarding the carriage.

The urgency of the moment before had not allowed for a closer inspection, but now that he had the time, Char noticed that the carriage had not only transformed in appearance but was all brand new on the inside as well.

The bed, tables, chairs, cabinets, and stove that were originally made from the blueprints had all taken on a new look.

Materials had been switched to Black Iron Wood, matching the carriage and looking both sturdier and more textured; in addition, the structure had become more complex and refined, with beautiful patterns carved into the surfaces.

Not just the large pieces had changed; the room now spontaneously contained many pots and pans, and the carriage no longer felt simple and empty, instead possessing the sense of a home, with many scattered items added.

If the pre-upgraded carriage resembled the home of a well-to-do family in a small town, the current one could be seen as a small noble’s abode. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Beyond essential functions, there were many additional aesthetic touches.

However, the biggest change was to the shrine that housed the Prayer Altar.

The shrine had become a room unto itself, against one wall, squared off like a Prayer Room.

It was primitive yet imbued with a sacred aura.

Not only that, but Char also discovered that the carriage’s interior seemed to be much larger than its exterior, as though space magic had been applied to expand the inner dimensions.

At the far end of the wall was a door leading to another carriage.

The two carriages were connected by massive ironwood hooks, not far apart, easily stepped across.

The rear carriage resembled more a shed, with a roof overhead, and the bottom open, surrounded by wooden boards.

This carriage, too, seemed larger on the inside than it appeared on the outside.

There was nothing inside the carriage for the moment, as the whole carriage was just a frame currently.

But no matter, Char’s mind was already brimming with ideas on how to utilize this carriage, a surge of thoughts in his head.

At that moment, though, Char had no energy to bring any of those thoughts to life; he was simply too exhausted.

Over the last few days, while dealing with the crisis brought on by the Bear Goblin, he’d hardly slept at all, barely holding on, and now that the crisis had passed and a powerful bodyguard was by his side, Char couldn’t hold out any longer.

After a cursory wash, he fell into a deep sleep.

When he awoke, it was already evening.

Cool breezes carrying the mountain wind wafted through the gaps in the carriage, the Star Worm nestled at his pillow edge, while Betty lay in her exquisite little bed, enveloped by fresh flowers.

The Lotus Leaf Frog perched by a small tub of water, with a few lotus leaves and a pink lotus flower floating on the surface.

Lantern Firefly lay at the foot of the bed, slumbering peacefully with her lantern dimmed to a faint spark.

Looking at this scene, Char felt an unusually peaceful serenity, a beauty that was indescribable and inexplicable, as if he had fallen into a fairy tale dream.

Char took a deep breath, flung back the covers, and stepped out of bed.

This sound woke up both the Star Worm and Lantern Firefly.

In the darkness, one gold and one red orb of light shone as the Star Worm and Lantern Firefly both took flight.

Next to awaken were Betty and the Lotus Leaf Frog.

Rubbing her sleepy eyes, Betty murmured groggily, “Mr. Char?”

“It’s fine, just keep sleeping.”

Betty flew out from among the fresh flowers and blankets.

Char pushed the door open, and a slightly chilly breeze greeted him, sharpening his alertness.

The Clover Mantis on rooftop watch sensed the commotion and flew down.

The dozing Wind Winged Horse also opened its eyes and snorted loudly.

Char climbed onto the top of the carriage with hands and feet, then found a comfortable position to lie down and gaze up at the starry sky.

The moon was about to set, but the Milky Way still hung above in the night sky, with the overlapping sounds of distant and near animal roars, bird calls, and insects chirping coming through.

The night breeze was gentle, softly caressing Char’s skin and carrying the fresh scent of the forest to his nostrils.

The Clover Mantis settled beside Char.

Soon, the Star Worm and Betty also flew over to join Char in stargazing.

Inside the carriage, the Lotus Leaf Frog hopped out of the water tank, passing through the doorway and leaving a trail of wet marks on the floor.

But these water traces didn’t last long, because the Lantern Firefly had not gone out with the Star Worm and Betty, but stayed inside the room instead.

After the Lotus Leaf Frog hopped out of the pool, the Lantern Firefly followed, staying close to the floor, its lantern shining brightly, its heat quickly drying the damp spots on the floor.

After that, the Lantern Firefly joined the Lotus Leaf Frog waiting at the door.

The first time the Lotus Leaf Frog made the floor wet, Char had asked the Lantern Firefly to help dry it once, and since then the Lantern Firefly had remembered.

Whenever the Lotus Leaf Frog hopped out of the water tank, the Lantern Firefly would follow behind to dry the floor, and the Lotus Leaf Frog would always wait for it to finish.

At the doorway, the Lotus Leaf Frog, perched on the plank, occasionally shot its tongue out to catch and eat the mosquitoes and other insects trying to fly inside.

After the Lantern Firefly joined it, they didn’t forget to close the door before leaving, to prevent more mosquitoes from getting in.

The Lantern Firefly and the others didn’t really care about mosquitoes; in the forest, how could you possibly avoid them?

For the Lotus Leaf Frog, it mattered even less, as mosquitoes were food.

The only one who disliked mosquitoes was Char, who had been particular about not wanting a single mosquito in the carriage ever since he had the means to prevent it.

Oh, and now there was also Betty; she didn’t like mosquitoes either and had even sought out anti-mosquito plants to grow on the surface of the carriage.

The Lantern Firefly flew to the top of the carriage, settling next to the Clover Mantis, the two occasionally emitting soft chirps and occasionally touching antennae, communicating with each other.

Char turned his head and glanced at the two Magic Pets, his mouth involuntarily revealing a smile.

The Lantern Firefly had always seemed somewhat cold on the outside but warm on the inside.

It cared deeply for its companions and carried out Char’s orders to the letter, without cutting corners, taking his every word to heart.

But on the surface, the Lantern Firefly seemed quite aloof.

It often stayed by itself, rarely making a sound; if not for being the strongest combatant before the Clover Mantis arrived, its presence would have been incredibly faint.

However, after the arrival of the Clover Mantis, things changed.

The Lantern Firefly actually took the initiative to express a desire to communicate, seeking instruction in fighting skills from the Clover Mantis.

Even though one used a Stabbing Sword and the other wielded dual blades, their techniques were different, but with the Clover Mantis’s strength, it was more than capable of guiding the Lantern Firefly.

The Clover Mantis, which seemed cold and heartless, making its debut by reaping dozens of lives in a violent display.

In reality, it had a very gentle nature, showing neither impatience nor irritation with the Lantern Firefly’s requests, and was very tender and patient.
