Gloria’s POV

"That little bitch! How dare she contact me!" I growled as I almost smashed the landline, pacing the length of my sitting room as I crumpled the note in my hand. "Does she really think she can just summon me whenever she pleases?"

I could still feel the sting of last night’s confrontation with Evander. My own son had dared to raise his voice at me— no, threatened me— over that insolent girl. And now this? Now I had to deal with her calling me out like I was her equal?

The audacity!

I slammed the note onto the table and took a moment to steady myself, though the anger continued to simmer just beneath the surface. My fingers itched to strike a slap on her milky cheeks, to remind her exactly who she was dealing with.

But no, this was not the time for impulsiveness. If Claire Reed thought she could challenge me, she would quickly learn how mistaken she was. I needed to see her, to look her in the eye and tear down whatever false courage she had built up.

"She must have forgotten her place," I muttered, grabbing my coat. "Or maybe she is just putting on a show of courage! But today... I will remind her who I am!"

I left the mansion in determination as I needed to destroy her once again.

It didn’t take long to arrive at the hospital. As I stepped out of the car, my heels clicking sharply against the pavement, my fury burned hotter. The sight of her sitting so casually at the café table—calm, composed, as if she owned the place—sent a fresh wave of rage through me.

Who did she think she was?

I approached the table, my expression cold and unyielding. The confidence she displayed only added fuel to the fire, her steady gaze meeting mine without a hint of fear.

"Claire," I said, my voice laced with venom as I took a seat across from her. "It seems you have grown bold. Let’s see how long that lasts."

Her audacity infuriated me, but I would not let her win. Not today, not ever.

However, I was stunned by the way she handled the situation. She didn’t even flinch at my threats, her calm demeanor was unwavered as if my words were meaningless.

What shocked me even more was her audacity. She not only refused to take me seriously but turned the situation on its head, exuding an air of confidence that was impossible to ignore. It was as if she had already won, and I was merely playing pawn in a game I didn’t even realize I was losing.

The way she carried herself made it clear— she wasn’t intimidated, nor was she someone who could be easily manipulated. The realization left me reeling, unsure of my next move.

In the end, I lost my composure entirely. My frustration boiled over, and before I could stop myself, my hands were around her throat, choking her in front of everyone. The gasps of the crowd barely registered in my ears, but even then, she didn’t back down. Her defiance remained unshaken, and she made it worse by glaring at me with the same confidence as before.

She didn’t cower or beg. Instead, she managed to twist the situation further, threatening to seduce Evander and use him as a weapon against me. Her boldness stung, and her words only added fuel to my already raging anger.

I was determined to show her her place, to remind her of the line she had crossed. My mind was set on making her pay for the humiliation she had caused me. But just as I was about to act, something caught my eye— a familiar car parked at the corner of the street.

A cold dread swept over me as I recognized it. Evander was here.

Panic gripped me instantly. If he saw this, if he witnessed what I had done in my moment of rage, it would undo everything. There was no time to think, no chance to turn around the situation.

I rose to my feet, my mind clouded with rage and fury. Without sparing another glance at her, I turned on my heels and walked away.

However, no matter how I looked at it, I couldn’t understand why Evander was there. The very sight of him stirred a hatred so deep that it consumed me. I hated him to the core— to the point where I often wished him dead.

I had already lost two sons, and Evander was the only one left. Yet he remained, as if his very existence was a cruel joke. No matter the torment life threw his way, he somehow survived; his thick skin shielded him from the devastation he had caused me! 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

My first son’s death was because of Evander. And the second? Also his doing. The memories of those losses burned like fresh wounds, fueling my resentment. I would rather be sonless than have him in my life. His presence was a constant reminder of everything I had lost and everything I had failed to protect.

No one truly understood how deep my hatred for him ran. They didn’t see how desperately I wanted to destroy him, to rid myself of the stain he had left on my life. He wasn’t just the cause of my sons’ deaths; he was the reason my entire world shattered.

It was because of him that I lost my reasoning. My husband was unable to endure the chaos I created often and abandoned me for a mistress. Now, I was nothing more than a hollow shell, a mere decoration in the Kensington mansion— stripped of power, love, and purpose.

And yet, Evander still breathed, still thrived, as if mocking the ruins of my life. The hatred I harbored for him was the only thing keeping me alive, the only thing that gave me a sense of purpose in this hollow existence.

"Evander Kensington! I will ruin you!"
