Evander’s POV

I slammed the file on the table, my frustration boiling over. "What’s wrong with them?" I snapped. For months, every project I pitched to the government had been rejected. To make matters worse, some of my investors were pulling their funds out of the company. And now, I just discovered that a few shareholders were planning to sell their shares at low prices.

What the hell do they want from me?

Zaniel stood across from me as tension was evident on his face. "Boss, what are you planning to do?" he asked cautiously. "We are in the middle of a brewing storm here."

"I know that!" I shot back, pinching the bridge of my nose to ease the brewing headache. "Tell me something I don’t know, Zaniel."

He hesitated, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. "Boss, there is something I have been meaning to tell you, but... I wasn’t sure if I should bring it up." His voice trailed off, and he avoided my gaze.

I straightened up, my attention fully on him now. "Spit it out, Zaniel. If I need to know something, you must tell me."

He took a deep breath as his expression looked uneasy. "It’s just... I have been hearing rumors that someone saw Diana around."

My heart raced as anger boiled over. "What? Who did they say they saw?" I asked, struggling to keep my composure.

"I am not entirely sure, but..." Zaniel hesitated, then pulled out his phone. "Here. She was spotted roaming around the streets of B City a few days ago."

He handed me the phone, and I stared at the image on the screen. My chest tightened as I recognized her— Diana.

"Really? And you didn’t think to tell me this sooner?" I gritted my teeth, forcing myself to stay calm.

It had only been a few months since Susan called me with news that shook me to my core— it was so shocking that I still hadn’t fully processed it. And now, Diana? Just what the hell was going on?

"I didn’t want to say anything until I was sure," Zaniel said, his voice cautious. "I didn’t want to give you the false news!"

"Wait! What about Claire? Is she doing okay? Don’t tell me Diana is going to target her now that she is out!" My frustration boiled over. My company was already in trouble, and now Diana had to reappear, stirring up more trouble.

"Send Eliam to Caspian’s. I am going to see Claire right now," I said, standing up and grabbing my blazer. "I need to make sure she is safe."

"Boss!" Zaniel’s eyes widened in alarm as he stepped in front of me. "This isn’t the right time to go out. We don’t even know what Diana is planning or how she managed to get out! It’s too risky."

I glared at him, my patience wearing thin. "Are you out of your mind? Claire is my wife! You expect me to sit here and do nothing while she could be in danger?"

Zaniel hesitated, clearly not sure how to act. "I understand, Boss, but we need to think this through. If Diana is back, she is not here for a friendly visit. We don’t know what she is capable of or who is behind her, pulling the strings!"

"Exactly!" I snapped, my voice rising. "That’s why I need to see Claire. I won’t let Diana hurt her—not again."

Zaniel sighed, realizing he wasn’t going to change my mind. "At least let me send some bodyguards with you. You shouldn’t go alone."

I nodded, though my impatience was growing. "Fine. But tell them to hurry. I am leaving in five minutes."

As Zaniel made the call, I paced the room, my thoughts racing. Diana’s sudden reappearance was no coincidence. Everything had become so unpredictable, and now that she was back, it meant trouble. But I am not going to let anyone destroy what I had been trying to build so hard—or hurt the people I cared about.

"They have arrived," Zaniel said, breaking the silence. "But, boss, please be careful. We don’t know what we are dealing with yet. And I bet since everything is happening together, it is no coincidence!"

"I know! I will be careful," I said in a firm tone. "But Claire comes first. No matter what."

I grabbed my keys and headed for the door, determination burning in my chest. Diana might have thought she could shake me with her appearance, but she was wrong. This time, I was ready. And I wasn’t going to let her win.

At present,

I was waiting impatiently for Claire to arrive. My foot tapped nervously against the floor, and I kept glancing at the clock. It wasn’t just worry that made me restless but I missed her, as every second felt like an eternity.

When I had reached the hotel earlier, I had called Sissy immediately. I needed to see Claire, and I made that clear. Either she arranged the meeting, or I would show up at their hotel myself. I wasn’t in the mood for games or delays.

The door creaked open, and my heart leaped. But it was just a waiter, delivering a glass of water; of course, it was sent by Damian, that bastard. I dismissed him with a wave, my focus entirely on the door. Where was she?

Finally, after what felt like hours, the door opened again. This time, it was her.

Claire! She was finally here!

She stepped inside, her eyes scanning the room until they landed on me. For a moment, we just stared at each other, the air thick with unspoken words. She looked as beautiful as ever, but there was a hint of weariness in her expression that made my chest ache.

"Claire," I said in a soft tone as I walked to her.

Claire hesitated, then took a step closer. "Evan."

I wanted to pull her into my arms and tell her how much I had missed her, but I held back. I could see the same longing in her eyes, the same ache I felt.

We stood there, just looking at each other; the silence around us was filled with everything we hadn’t said. Finally, I took a step closer, but this time she didn’t move.

"Claire," I said softly, her name felt like honey to my lips as I wanted to keep repeating it.

She looked up at me, her eyes searching mine. "Evan," she replied as her voice was shaky.

I reached out and gently brushed a strand of hair from her face. My hand lingered on her cheek, and she leaned into it, closing her eyes for a moment, allowing me to continue with all the bad things I had in my mind.

I pulled her into my arms, holding her tight. She clung to me, her hands gripping my shirt like she was afraid I would let go. I buried my face in her hair, breathing in her familiar scent.

"I have missed you," I whispered in a rough voice. "Every single day, and in every passing second."

Claire pulled back just enough to look at me, her eyes shining with tears. "I have missed you too," she said as her voice shook a little. "I missed you even more than you did!"

My heart swelled up at her words. I cupped her face in my hands, wiping away her tears with my thumbs. "I am sorry," I said, my voice thick. "I am sorry for making you miss me this much and for the tears that are forming in your eyes."

She shook her head, her hands resting on my chest. "I... I even miss you even when you are in front of me! I don’t know why!"

Claire’s words shook my heart, making me almost go crazy as I forgot what I was here for! I leaned down and kissed her, pouring all my longing and love into it. It was a kiss that said everything I couldn’t put into words.

Claire kissed me back just as fiercely, her arms wrapping around my neck like she never wanted to let go. Her lips moved with mine. Her movements were soft yet demanding, and every touch sent a spark through me. For that moment, nothing else mattered—no Diana, no Susan. It was just her and me, lost in each other.

I slid one hand to her back, pulling her closer until there was no space between us. Her body pressed against mine, warm and familiar, and I could feel her heartbeat racing in time with my own. My other hand tangled in her hair, tilting her head just enough to deepen the kiss. She let out a small, breathless moan that made my chest tighten, and I kissed her harder, pouring every ounce of longing and love into it.

Her fingers trailed down my chest, leaving a trail of fire in my body, before gripping the front of my shirt like she was afraid I would disappear.

When we finally pulled apart, we were both breathless, our foreheads resting together. Her lips were slightly swollen, her cheeks flushed, and her eyes were dark with the same hunger I felt. I could see the pulse racing in her neck, and it took everything in me not to kiss her again.

"Evan!" she whispered, her voice trembling, and it was the most beautiful sound I had ever heard. "I... I missed kissing you!"
