Evander’s POV

I had been surrounded by Damian, that bastard, all the time! No matter how much I tried to avoid him, he wouldn’t leave me alone. He was relentless, constantly prying into my life, trying to figure out how I fell for Claire and where I first met her. His curiosity was maddening.

In the end, I couldn’t take it anymore and managed to shoo him off with much difficulty. But even after I got rid of him, the damage was done. Now that he knew about my feelings for Claire, I was being teased like never before.

"These bastards!" I growled under my breath, clenching my fists. "And how dare Zaniel join Damian to tease me!" I stormed off furiously as I escaped their torment.

But as I reached home, my anger faded, and I felt an overwhelming sense of loneliness replace it. I walked through the quiet halls, my footsteps echoing in the emptiness. My thoughts drifted to Eliam, my son. These days, I kept him in this house rather than letting him return to the main mansion. I couldn’t risk Gloria trying to take him from me. That woman was always scheming, and I wouldn’t let her succeed.

I entered Eliam’s room and stood by his bed, watching him sleep peacefully. His small, delicate face reminded me of my late brother. I planted a soft kiss on his forehead as I leaned forward. "You are safe with me," I whispered, then quietly left the room.

But as I walked back to my study, the ache in my chest grew stronger. I missed Claire terribly. I longed to see her, to hold her, to lose myself in the soothing warmth of her presence. But she wasn’t here. She hadn’t been here, and the emptiness was suffocating.

I grabbed my cell phone and dialed her number as I hoped to hear her voice. The line rang and rang, but there was no answer. My heart sank. I tried again and again, but her phone was off.

"What’s going on?" I muttered, a sense of unease creeping into my chest. My mind raced, and with it came an all-too-familiar fear. "Don’t tell me... she left me again!" My pulse quickened, and panic took hold.

Without another thought, I grabbed my car keys and stormed out of the mansion. I was going to her apartment. I needed to see her. This time, I wouldn’t let her leave, no matter what it took and even if I needed to cage her I would do it!

As I got into the car and started the engine, my eyes fell on a file lying on the passenger seat—Claire’s file. Damian must have left it here after I asked for her number. I hesitated for a moment, then picked it up and opened it, hoping to find another way to reach her.

As I scanned the pages, I spotted a contact number for Sissy. Relief flooded through me as I dialed the number. But when the call connected, I was taken aback. Sissy’s tone was cold and hostile as if I had done something to offend her. In the end, I demanded her to let me talk with Claire and thankfully she handed the cell phone to Claire.

I showered Claire with questions, but she was not replying as she usually did. She seemed furious. So I told her that I missed her, and these words seemed to have infuriated her even more.

Claire asked me not to see her anymore, and the reason was Gloria! My so-called mother.

"What?" I blurted out, trying to make sense of her words. But before I could say anything more, Sissy hung up.

I stared at my phone, her words echoing in my mind. Gloria. Of course, it was her. My hands tightened around the steering wheel as anger and desperation coursed through me. If Claire was avoiding me because of Gloria, I needed to fix this. I couldn’t lose her. Not again.

And this time, no one—not even Gloria Kensington—was going to stand in my way.

I gripped the steering wheel tightly as I raced my car down the winding road, the tires screeching at every sharp turn. My destination was the main mansion where Gloria resided. Anger and desperation churned inside me like a storm, fueling my reckless speed. I didn’t know what she had said or done to Claire to make her not want to see me anymore, but I would never let her tear us apart!

Never!

As I pulled up to the grand gates, I barely waited for them to open fully before driving through. The sprawling mansion loomed ahead, cold and unwelcoming, just like the woman inside it, Gloria!

The memories flashed through my mind—the decisions that had led me here. I had tircked Gloria into marrying Claire. She thought I despised Claire, couldn’t stand her presence, and she had believed every word I fed her. I let her think she was in control, that she was the one forcing both sides into an unwanted union. But the truth was far from it.

The day I married Claire was the happiest day of my life. I had been on cloud nine, my heart so full that it felt like it might burst. But the euphoria hadn’t lasted long.

My brother—always the golden child, the rightful heir—had left his post as CEO, abandoning his responsibilities without warning. And suddenly, the weight of the family empire fell on my shoulders, crushing the fragile joy I had just found.

Taking over the company wasn’t just a duty; it was a burden that consumed every waking hour. The long nights, the endless meetings, the constant scrutiny—it all kept me away from Claire. I had thought I could manage it and balance it somehow, but Gloria had seen my distraction as an opportunity.

She had worked her way into Claire’s mind, whispering poison and feeding her lies until Claire no longer wanted to see me.

I slammed the car door shut and strode toward the mansion, my chest heaving with frustration. I wasn’t just angry at Gloria—I was angry at myself. For letting this happen. For not protecting Claire better.

I burst through the front door and found Gloria seated in the lavish living room. She had a smug smile on her face as if she had been expecting me.

"What did you tell her?" I demanded, my voice sharp, cutting through the silence like a blade.

Gloria raised an eyebrow, feigning innocence. "What do you mean?" 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

"Don’t play games with me," I growled as I stepped closer. "What did you say to Claire? Why doesn’t she want to see me anymore?"

She chuckled softly, a sound that grated on my nerves. "You are blaming me for your failure to keep your wife happy? How typical of you, darling."

I clenched my fists, my jaw tightening. "This isn’t about me. This is about you and whatever schemes you have been plotting. Claire is mine, Gloria. And no matter what you have done, I will make sure to ruin you if you touch her!

"Is that so?" Gloria picked up the cup of her tea and sipped it.
