Susan’s POV

I wasn’t done there. I had plans... plans that would ruin Claire forever and make her hate herself.

Yes, I had sent people to abduct her while I was on my way to the mansion. I set everything up and even paid them in advance, making sure that every detail was covered. I knew that when Claire saw Eliam calling me "mother" and Evander as "father," she would go crazy. I figured if she had even a little bit of pride left, she would leave him for good.

And just as I thought, Claire dashed off out of the mansion, as if her world was torn apart, "again".

But just when I thought my plan worked, Evannder went after her. Even Eliam couldn’t hold Evander back as he rushed after Claire to sort things out. It felt like everything was slipping away from me. But so what? Even if he found her and tried to explain everything, I had arranged it all so that Claire would think Evander had kidnapped her and tried to trap her forever, chained in a cold, lonely room.

I smiled at the thought. It was perfect. I could already imagine her confusion and anger when she realised the truth. I wanted her to feel trapped, just like I had felt all those years. It was time to turn the tables and make her regret ever coming back into our lives.

But who would have thought that it would take Evander less than an hour to find their hiding place? My heart nearly stopped when I realised how close I had come to disaster. Luckily, I had warned the men to get out fast, or it could have all gone terribly wrong.

Even though I managed to get them away safely, I still found myself in a complete mess. So, I ended up calling Mrs. Kensington— again. I swallowed my pride and begged for her help as I promised her over and over that I would never pull anything like this again. I kept at it until, finally, she agreed to help me out.

Ha! That woman acted like she was untouchable, flaunting her high status just because she married into money. But just wait until I marry Evander myself. One day, I would be the one calling the shots, and I’d make sure she learned a lesson she’d never forget.

I pretended to follow Evander to the place where Claire was being held, and just to avoid any interruptions, I sent Eliam back to the main mansion with Mrs. Kensington.

I was only there to see if Claire had any idea of what was really going on. But then I saw something I didn’t expect— Evander kissing her with such intense passion, like she was the only one in his world. It made my blood boil. I clenched my fists, holding back my anger and just watching, waiting for him to come out.

When he finally did, the first thing he asked was for me to help Claire— to make sure she was okay and to let her leave after she calmed down. I couldn’t believe it. Here I was, doing everything for him, and he was still putting her first. But I forced a smile, hiding how angry I felt, and nodded as if it didn’t bother me... even though inside I was burning with frustration.

I hated every second of it— the forced gentleness in my voice, the way I had to unchain Claire with my own hands, pretending to care as I consoled her. Inside, I was barely holding back my disgust.

When it was finally over, Evander stormed through the mansion. He was furious as he tore into everything like a possessed man. His rage was growing with each second; he just couldn’t ignore Claire’s pain, and her pain was making him go crazy.

"Evan! Calm down; she is fine now," I said softly, trying to soothe him. I reached out, intending to pat his back, but before I could even touch him, he turned and slapped my hand away; the blow was so strong I almost fell.

His eyes widened as he seemed to realize what he had done. "Be careful!" he blurted was firm but I could tell he was guilty. "I didn’t mean it! But..."

For a moment, I felt a flicker of hope as I thought he might actually care about me, that maybe he was finally seeing what I had done for him. But then his next words shattered everything.

"But I am not letting this go. Whoever did this to my Claire—" he growled as he clenched his fists.

The words echoed in my head, making my blood turn cold even more. As if her very presence wasn’t enough, Evander’s love and protectiveness for her made it unbearable. The word "My Claire" drove the knife further in my heart. It reminded me that no matter what I did for him, I would never be his priority.

"You can go home on your own! I am going to find out who did this to Claire! It’s time for them to payback!" Evander declared and left, leaving me shocked as I stood rooted in my place.

"Fuck!" I cursed when I came back to my senses and instantly called Evander’s mother and briefed the whole situation.

"Are you dumb?" You are good for nothing! You can’t even handle a man, and you want to marry my son!" She cursed at me and hung up the call, adding fuel to the fire.
