Author’s POV

A day before the incident,

Gloria paced back and forth in her lavish office, her face twisted with fury. Claire’s boldness had struck a nerve, and Gloria was unwilling to let it slide. She wasn’t just angry—she was determined to ruin Claire and Evander, to shatter the fragile alliance and feelings they seemed to be forming again

She sat down abruptly, tapping her manicured nails on the desk as a sinister plan began to take shape in her mind. Her eyes narrowed as she recalled Claire’s mysterious time in the US. There was a gap—a whole year during which Claire had vanished from the public eye, and not even Gloria’s extensive network could track her down.

"Zach," she called sharply, her voice slicing through the tense silence.

Her loyal assistant stepped forward with a cautious expression. "Yes, ma’am?"

"Contact the NGO I have been endorsing," Gloria ordered, her tone icy and calculated.

Zach frowned slightly, hesitant. "If I may ask, ma’am, what’s the plan? What do we need them for?"

Gloria glared intensely at him. "Do I need to spell everything out for you, Zach? Just make the call." Her voice dripped with irritation, but after a moment, she leaned back in her chair and offered a brief explanation, if only to satiate his curiosity.

"I want every detail about Claire’s life in the US. Where she lived, who she met, what she did. She has been hiding something, and I am going to find out what it is. Whatever skeletons of a secret she has buried, I will dig them up and put them on display."

Zach nodded, quickly jotting down notes, but Gloria wasn’t finished.

"And one more thing," she added, her voice dropping to a venomous whisper. "I will use that NGO to tighten the noose around their necks. Evander and Claire think they are invincible together. I will make sure they never get their happy ending. Not while I am alive, as I am going to take the link that brought them together!

Her words hung in the air like a dark promise, and Zach hurried to carry out her orders. Gloria leaned forward, a cold, triumphant smile spreading across her face.

This was just the beginning, and she was willing to go any length.

At Present:

Gloria’s ears perked up at the commotion echoing from the mansion’s entrance. Her expression hardened, though she masked her concern with a composed façade. She glanced toward the ladies seated nearby—the same women she had enlisted to help execute her elaborate plan to bring Eliam to her side.

Each of these women was carefully chosen, not just for their influence but also for their unwavering loyalty to suffering women. She had woven a tale of sorrow and desperation, complete with crocodile tears, painting herself as a grieving grandmother robbed of her only connection to her deceased son.

"These moments with Eliam are all I have left of my boy," she had pleaded to them days prior, her voice trembling with perfectly measured anguish. "I can’t let anyone take that away from me."

The women were moved by her performance and convinced of her sincerity, had taken it upon themselves to "rescue" Eliam from Evander’s mansion. Gloria had assured them that Evander was far too busy with his affairs to notice anything related to Eliam as he never cared for him. It was an assumption on her side that Evander might not be at home that had always proven correct. And as predicted, Evander’s absence had made it remarkably easy for them to bring the child here.

But now, standing in the luxurious living room with Eliam playing innocently on the rug nearby, Gloria’s carefully laid plan was on the verge of unraveling.

She turned her head sharply toward the source of the noise, her perfectly sculpted brows knitting together. "What’s happening out there?" she demanded, her voice low but filled with authority.

Zach, who had been stationed discreetly at the corner of the room, stepped forward. "It seems Mr. Evander has arrived, ma’am... and he is not alone. Mrs. Claire is with him."

Gloria’s mask of calm nearly slipped, a flicker of panic flashing in her eyes. Claire? That woman was the last person she wanted Evander to lean on right now. Gloria clenched her fists, the polished nails digging into her palms.

Claire almost came out of the syllabus, as she had not expected her to arrive with him and face her head on once again.

She quickly composed herself, forcing a gracious smile toward the women she had recruited. "Ladies, please, remain calm. Everything is under control," she assured them, though her mind was racing.

Gloria glanced at Eliam, who was now looking up at her with scared and teary eyes. "Don’t worry, sweetheart," she murmured, her voice sweet and extremely fake. "Grandma will handle everything."

As she began walking toward the main hall, her heels clicking sharply against the marble floor, Gloria’s mind churned with schemes. Evander was known for his temper, but Claire’s presence was a variable she couldn’t yet predict.

No matter what happens, she thought coldly, I won’t lose.

"What commotion you guys are making here!" Gloria questioned in an authoritative tone.

"Mo... Mother," Claire said in a shaky tone, as concern was evident on her face. She pushed through the guard took Evander’s hand in his and pulled him inside the mansion. "Mother, Eliam... Some weird women entered our mansion and took our baby away from us!"

Gloria stood rooted on her face as she couldn’t fathom what Claire had in her mind as she glared at her. "Mother! Do something! I want my son back!" Claire cried as she fell on the floor with a loud thud, making enough sound for all the women in the house to come out and see her pathetic condition.

"What are you planning, Claire!? And why are you here!?" Gloria gritted her teeth and said in a low tone.

"Mother, I am..."
