"All aboard the Fengril Express!"
Hundreds of passengers marched into the fastest train currently in the entire continent of Yuxian, the Fengril Express, designed and made by the renowned alchemist Fuxian Fengril. They usually called him the FF.
Dion easily secured them tickets with his wide range of connections. Since this was the second fastest way to get to Toru Village, they couldn’t make use of the teleportation gateways because it was located in an underdeveloped area.
’First Class? Dion really knows his stuff.’
They were directed to the First Class cabin. It was decorated with fine velvet linens. The lamps were illuminated beautifully. The chairs were super comfortable, enough to cure one’s back aches.
"I must say, I am very delighted we accepted his offer. As suspicious as he may seem, the man really knows his stuff."
Ariel’s eyes swept across the cabin. She was more than happy to receive some luxury after all she had been imprisoned for centuries.
"You seem awfully relaxed," Haruki let out a faint laugh.
"Hmm. You are super mean." She pursed her lips.
They sat down on their chairs beside the window. From inside, they could see the bustling lights that came from the city.
Before they left, Dion gave them a brief orientation along with some food supplies that were expected to last them a few days.
The ride from Zuian District to Mongou was roughly three days, but with the speed of the Fengril Express, that time was cut in half. So they had to wait for a day and a half.
"Hello."
An express attendant walked up to them and bent her head slightly.
"Would you like some cookies and tea?" she asked.
"Yes please!" Ariel answered immediately.
Another attendant wheeled a trolley over to their table and poured some tea into little ceramic cups, while the other attendant arranged the cookies neatly on two flat plates.
"Thank you for choosing the Fengril Express. We hope you have a wonderful ride."
The attendants said in unison as they walked away.
"Delish!" Ariel’s eyes brightened. It had been a long while since she tasted something so sweet, or anything really.
’She must be really enjoying herself.’
From what Dion told him, Toru Village was located at the very edge of the border that separated Yuxian from its neighbouring continent, Rinxia.
For centuries, the two continents had always been on bad terms. Issues relating to border breaches from either side were taken very seriously.
Toru Village did not fall under the jurisdiction of any of the Four Great Clans of the Yuxian continent.
So activities carried out in the village were solely overseen by the village chief. This was the main reason they didn’t receive any aid after the sudden breakout of a corruption zone in the village.
They had been battling the demons for about two days before their request reached the guild.
The Four Great Clans couldn’t care less about them. All they considered was how to take over the remnants of the village.
Haruki’s mission was to cleanse the village before it was too late.
"All passengers should please hold on tight. The Express is about to depart."
The voice of the conductor echoed through the floating speakers. The train engines released a humming sound and it immediately started to move.
Ariel couldn’t help but notice Haruki restlessly tapping his feet on the floor.
"Haruki-sama. Is there an issue?" she asked.
"No. Not at all. It’s just my way of relieving stress," he replied.
’More like I am trying to survive my first train ride.’
This was Haruki’s first time boarding a train. He would usually sight the train from afar moving at a surreal speed. Well, that just made him develop a minor phobia of trains.
He wasn’t much of a fan of fast-moving things, ever since his elder brothers locked him in a carriage and then caused the horse to ride all around the streets for days.
’Those bastards should fucking prepare. My comeback is going to be their worst nightmare.’
He was overcome by rage and anger. Who wouldn’t be after their own family tried to kill them.
"Haruki-sama. What’s that strange structure floating in the sky?" Ariel pointed towards a castle that was suspended midair.
"That’s the Shouganate Palace." He drew his neck closer to the window to have a clearer view since it was night.
The Shouganate Palace, home to the cultivator rumoured to be the strongest woman alive. The Shougan Ruxia.
Shougan was a title given to Yuxian’s continent’s strongest cultivators, called the Emperium Shougans. It consisted of eight cultivators who had been acknowledged by the Four Great Clans.
Out of the eight, only two were part of the 14 Arcane Warlords, and Ruxia was one of them.
"She must be quite strong. I wonder who would win in a fight, me or her?" Ariel’s Dao surged for a brief moment.
’I am damn sure I don’t want to find out. For the sake of the Yuxian continent, I mean.’
Haruki could only imagine the amount of damage such a battle would cause. It might wipe the Yuxian continent off the map.
"All passengers should take a moment to look outside the window. We are now passing through the Mirad Fields. I hear the flowers bloom at night."
The conductor’s voice carried.
"Whoa."
"It’s so beautiful."
"Let me take a picture."
"It’s even better than I imagined."
The delighted reactions of passengers echoed through the cabin.
Haruki turned his head towards the window and a smile spread across his face. The dazzling radiance of the flowers reflected in his eyes.
’This is such an amazing view.’
Mirad Flowers, known to be the most beautiful flowers in the Yuxian continent, only bloomed at night. Their dazzling purple petals and glass-like structures always caught the attention of the eyes.
"I hope you all enjoyed your journey thus far?" the conductor asked.
"Yes!"
"Absolutely!"
"Of course!"
The passengers replied positively.
"Thanks for the wonderful replies. We will now be arriving at Mongou Station."
The train soon came to a halt at the nearby station.
"Do well to leave five-star reviews. And make sure to avoid Toru Village for now."
The conductor’s voice faded slowly as idle chatters between passengers erupted.
Haruki and Ariel had to begin walking down the road. According to what Dion explained, Toru Village was just a few hours away from Mongou Station.
’It’s not that bad to stretch my legs after sitting for such a long time.’
"Haruki-sama. Let’s walk faster." Ariel dragged him by the shoulder.
"Yes, yes. Let’s go, Ariel."
They walked for a while. Then a red fog came into view. They were now approaching Toru Village. The red fog was a sign of a corruption zone that was about to progress to the second phase.
’This is not going to be as easy as I thought.’
Pieces of broken wood were scattered around the entrance, most likely from destroyed houses.
"Haruki-sama, something is coming our way. I suggest we prepare for combat." Ariel’s pupils compressed, which allowed her to see further.
"I hundred percent agree." He began gathering Dao in his palm.
The shadow of a human figure appeared inside the mist. Haruki was about to attack.
"Wait, wait, don’t shoot. I’m not a demon."
A man, most likely in his mid-forties, stepped out of the mist.
