[FROLO]
Sergei’s face went colder the moment he stepped into the building. The tension that had always been whenever he came to work tripled in an instant.
He could hear the employees trying to control their breathing, like they were terrified of him, and frankly, he couldn’t give a shit about that right now. Not when someone he cared about had been humiliated beyond reason.
Oh, but the office was eerily calm, even when they walked right in too.
Behind the alpha, his son and his mistress strutted carefully like they were not sure whether to ride the same elevator with the mad alpha or if they were to think of something else.
The public elevator seemed to call for them, yet at the same time, Sergei held the private elevator open like an invitation they would not dare to decline.
He was waiting for them.
For the very people who have turned his company into a mad circus.
The people who could have chosen to pull such stunts anywhere but decided the Moskowsky company was the one place to see how far their insanity could get. And boy had it ruined Sergei’s morning.
"I don’t have all day," Sergei stated, his cold voice sending chills down the spines of his son and the mistress.
They were looking at him like they were reconsidering their options
But then there was a board meeting in a few minutes. No matter what Yaroslav tried to do, he would still have to face his father eventually, especially after the warning last week.
Sergei hadn’t asked about the cheating. Not once. Not even on Saturday when the madness began. He had stayed unbothered, as if it was just a phase his son was bound to go through.
For a man who was always so proud, Sergei hadn’t reacted like Yaroslav had expected, especially when Milan spoke of the affair going on for the seven years he had known Katya. And it was unsettling to an extent.
Because it was one thing to have met Katya three years into his flings with Milan, but to keep it going even though their marriage was another. And Yaroslav, he knew he had fucked up.
Not because of the cheating...
But because of the annoying attention this came with.
"He will kill us if we go in there," Milan whispered like the final functioning brain cell had finally been jump-started.
Maybe she was right.
Maybe she was wrong.
But one thing that was certain was the way Sergei was staring at them, boredly waiting like he truly didn’t have all day.
Begrudgingly, Yaroslav ignored Milan’s word and headed in with his father. Milan followed right after her eyes on the alpha who was staring at her with a blank expression.
It was hard to tell what was going on in the alpha’s mind, really.
There was no betrayal on his face, which was expected. But there was no acknowledgement of it either.
It was as if the world itself was trying to conform to the displayed facts, which didn’t make it any easier because, at the end of the day, there wasn’t much to be held onto.
Yaroslav had expected something.
Anything from his father.
Yet all he got was a cold stare and an unbothered face.
And that... that bothered the Moskowsky heir.
"Father... I can explain," Yaroslav said once they got in, and the elevator was going up fast. Faster than it usually was, yet he stayed composed, determined to talk about what had just happened out there.
His confidence from before was long gone, maybe because he finally remembered who his father was and what a mistake it was to have had a parade that pointless at HQ on a Monday morning.
Damn, he was screwed.
The way that things had turned out had Yaroslav wondering if he was getting away with it, really, or if his father had simply grown colder.
It was haunting, truly, because an angry Sergei was manageable.
A cold Sergei, too.
But an unbothered Sergei was the perfect recipe for disaster. That man was unpredictable and could ruin lives in an instant, which wasn’t exactly comforting for Yaroslav right now.
Something had to give, but what was it then?
"Explain?" Sergei asked, amused, like he didn’t believe that after the morning that they had been thrust into, his foolish offspring finally had the guts to spell shit out.
"Pray tell, Yaroslav. What is it that you can explain? Bringing your whore to the company and ruining Monday morning? Airing your marital affairs to the public over the weekend and ruining the Moskowsky name?
"Or do you want to explain that the pregnancy was not supposed to have happened? That it was a mistake and that it just happened to grow well past the first week into now four months.
"... only for you to come and turn my company into a circus on a business day?" Sergei asked after a long silence when the elevator dinged on the seventieth floor.
The alpha stepped out first, like he couldn’t stand to be in the same space as his son. Like, suddenly, he was remembering the brat he had brought up and trained himself. But what part of the parenting stage had Sergei skipped for him to be stuck with this mess?
Milan and Yaroslav followed right behind him, like dominoes that were bound to fall if the alpha fell.
But the alpha was angry. Not faltering.
His chance to spend more time with Katya had been ruined.
And somehow Yaroslav still thought he wanted to hear explanations.
The markets opened already, and Yaroslav was trying to make their stocks dice like all of this was for nothing. That was the kind of thing that Mr. Moskowsky certainly did not appreciate.
Rahim and Volkov stood to bow to the alpha respectfully as was routine, not that they were ever acknowledged, but even they could tell that shit was about to go down.
They could see the way the alpha was controlling himself, acting all unbothered when the truth was right there, hiding in plain sight under the pretense of stock markets.
Maybe Sergei cared for the stocks not to plunge this early in the morning.
But he cared more about a particular someone who hadn’t even raised his head to look at him since he had driven to the company. Not even to scold him for driving like a maniac and making them look like furrowed chicken in the morning.
But the secretaries knew.
Milan didn’t.
Yaroslav couldn’t even imagine it.
Perhaps that was why this was so normal to him.
"Father, please," Yaroslav tried, but Sergei was well past listening to his son. He wasn’t in the mood.
He needed to figure out a way not to make a fool of himself before Katya, especially now that the omega was back to work looking like sin and still, still terrified of Sergei.
The darn romance 101 books the alpha had been reading all weekend, besides the footage, did nothing to help.
Anya had managed to put them in the same car to work, but now even that was a bust because Sergei hadn’t spent enough time with his Solnyshka.
So, he was pissed.
Irrational.
And a few steps for choking his son unconscious for a few minutes.
But Sergei, he never laid hands on his son. And he was determined to keep that streak. After all, he was Yaroslav’s father. Even if the beta was the greatest disappointment these past few weeks.
He was still his son.
"I wanted a child!"
