[SERGEI]
The executive floor of the Moskowsky building was dead quiet. Quieter than the silence that spanned across the company, it was almost like there wasn’t even life here.
It was like the entire floor was holding its breath as the barbarian simply existed on that floor. Only that it wasn’t that simple.
Not this time anyway.
Sergei Moskowsky was really within these walls, and perhaps everyone was right to be terrified, because even as everyone whispered outside, the most dangerous man was on his knees against the white tiled floor. It was cold, but he didn’t mind.
How could he even begin, when this was the reminder of what had happened early that morning?
"I’m so sorry," he had been mumbling from the moment he had walked right back into the building. And now he wasn’t just on any spot of the floor.
He was kneeling where his Solnyshka had been. Where things had gotten so out of hand, and he had stayed like a mindless robot, unsure of what he needed to do.
He had been terrified, and Sergei Moskowsky never scared easily.
But today...
Today, she scarred him in ways that no one would ever be able to understand with ease.
The blood stains have been cleaned up, but the memory?
Gods, it was a sore one.
A memory that reminded him of how much he had changed. How he had managed to scare the one good thing in his life.
He knew Katya would hate him, even more after today, and Sergei was painfully aware that he deserved it.
He would never try to fight the hatred because there wasn’t a thing he had done for Katya that could even soften the omega’s heart or even have Katya look at him with affection in his eyes.
He was a bad man. A devil.
And while he couldn’t give two shits about how he dealt with the city, he was more haunted by Katya kneeling before him, bending so low as to kiss his feet in apology.
He was more haunted by the tear streaks on the pretty omega’s face.
So much so that when Volkov walked in, worried about his face, Sergei lifted his head up to see his secretary.
’Sir... the media are asking for you," Volkov said carefully because even he knew his boss’s obsession with Katya.
It was unhealthy, something that Sergei would burn everyone for, but they had gotten to learn about Sergei and what triggered him so many times.
So much so that right now, even though it was dangerous, Volkov figured he would try another approach.
Because Sergei Moskowsky never cared about the media or pr.
"They’re asking about... him," Volkov trailed off, his words very careful like he was aware of the chaos he was about to trigger.
Maybe a prayer would do him better than standing in the same space as Sergei and giving him a report that didn’t have anything positive regarding his Solnyshka.
Sergei’s fierce eyes instantly snapped toward the secretary.
No one was allowed to talk about his Solnyshka. No one. The very thought of people taking an interest in his omega was enough to drive Sergei into a mental hospital.
He was selfish when it came to Katya’s name, affection, hell, even the omega’s very existence. If Sergei could, he would have isolated Katya and made sure that he was the only one who had him.
Not because he wanted the omega to suffer, but because for Sergei, Katya was too precious.
Katya was the best thing that had happened in his life, and he refused to let him go.
Katya was the missing link of happiness in his life.
Oh, Katya was the bane of his existence, and he knew it.
"Sir?" Volkov dared to ask when the barbarian hadn’t given him a response for some good minutes there. It was like the man had zoned out, but was it even new to Volkov at this point?
The man knew his boss’s obsession with Katya Gamov. Any mention of Katya directly or indirectly was enough to have Sergei deep into his fantasies about Katya.
And right now, Volkov didn’t have to mention Katya’s name to have the barbarian looking at him like Volkov had been the one who had summoned the media to the company.
Yet like a man with a death wish, Volkov continued.
"They’re insinuating that he’s... that he sold hims—" Volkov trailed off carefully.
And in an instant, his body was flying through the walls on Sergei’s side of the glass-walled office, a raging alpha following right after. You would think that it was Volkov’s fault that everyone was being an ass today.
"Say that again, I dare you," Sergei demanded as he walked through the hole he had made with Volkov’s body and grabbed his secretary by the throat, before slamming Volkov hard on the table, determined to choke the life out of the secretary.
It didn’t help that Anya hadn’t come in today because she was dealing with the Katya situation back home.
Oh, Volkov was doomed.
"Th... they... assumptions," Volkov forced out, but Sergei didn’t get his hand off.
He kept choking the man like he had known this man for the past twelve years.
Like Volkov was just another faceless figure in his office that he couldn’t give a shit about.
Thankfully, Rahim rushed in, her voice snapping the alpha from his trance.
"Sir, we have a problem," Rahim said, keeping her distance. She knew that even she was not that far from having her body bent into the shape of a streetlamp when Sergei was this pissed.
"What the fuck do you get paid for?" Sergei asked, still not letting Volkov go.
"There’s a woman at the lobby..." Rahim said.
Sergei paused for a moment, his hold on Volkov’s neck releasing just a little to allow the man to breathe in.
"And what the fuck do I have to do with a woman, Rahim?" Sergei asked boredly.
"She is demanding answers..."
"Did you get into a stammering session, or is your brain buffering because you’re stupid, Rahim?" Sergei asked, angrily.
"She is demanding to know where Mr. Katya is, and why the chairman hasn’t apparently been sighted for three weeks.
"She is saying things like the Moskowskys killed Mr. Katya after parading him... and sir... she knows..." Rahim trailed off, and Sergei stared at her blankly.
"She knows about the hospital situation... She just broke Mr. Yaroslav’s arm because he tried to talk her down."
"She doesn’t happen to be called Svetlana Vasilieva, does she?"
"That’s... that’s the name she gave," a horrified Rahim said.
And Sergei...
The alpha smiled.
"Well then, let’s not waste Miss Svetlana’s time now, shall we?" Sergei said as he pulled his hand from Volkov and straightened up like this was normal.
The secretaries looked at their boss like the man had lost their mind.
Maybe he had.
Because this was the first time in seven years that they were seeing the man smile.
"Hurry now, we don’t want you falling back. And fix your collar, Volkov," Sergei said, as he waited for his secretaries in the private elevator, holding the door like he was headed to a welcoming ceremony.
Maybe Sergei had gone bonkers.
