[FROLO]
"We need to get to the office," Katya insisted, like that was going to make him feel any better.
His heart was hammering in his chest.
He was suffocating, and the pills he had taken were not helping him. He was terrified, and he hated how weak he found himself whenever any Moskowsky led.
It didn’t even help that he was currently stuck with a secretary who was not aware of how to deal with this. Yet for some reason, in that moment, Katya had found himself dialing the one person he knew would’ve come.
He could’ve dialed Svet or Andre, but his friends would burn down Moskowsky before they got word out.
"Sir, please stay with me. He is coming," Rahim said, and Katya looked at her with half-lidded eyes, trying to understand where they were or even what they were doing.
He could tell that they had been from the café. The same café he had gone to just to find peace.
Funny how that had ended for him.
But now, this wasn’t even about peace anymore.
This was about where he was and what he was doing on the roadside like a lost animal.
’Maybe this is why they say omegas are weak,’ Katya thought to himself as the cars drove by, people starting to see what was happening.
The fact that he had insisted his car not be labeled Moskowsky was probably for the better because, honestly, everyone would have known that he was a famous man, even called the Moskowskys, to gain favor.
Maybe that was not what he wanted, right?
"I’ll just rest," Katya mumbled to Rahim, and before Rahim could say anything else, a loud honk was heard in the distance.
A driver who was honking like his life depended on it.
Katya sneered at the idea of that rude road user. It didn’t help that the sound kept coming closer.
For a moment, Katya steadied himself.
Talking himself through staying awake long enough to curse whoever was driving that loudly, because some people needed to understand that the roads were shared. And if they were a Moskowsky, maybe he would tell them that truth before he died, right?
Oh, Katya.
The honk came closer, faster. It didn’t stop, especially when it got to where Katya was.
Katya was irritated so much so that he could feel himself steadying. Because he wanted to face whoever was doing that shit.
"Don’t let him close those eyes, Rahim!" Katya heard Yaroslav’s voice and smiled at how sheepish his illusion was.
Even in his worst state, he was still thinking of the man who always came for him whenever he was in trouble with anything.
Yaroslav had been his ultimate protector, even when the Beta never needed to.
Funny how the man was protecting him from everyone who had failed to protect Katya from himself. Oh, the irony of life.
"Sir, do not go to sleep," Katya heard Rahim say, but he just chuckled.
"This dream is beautiful," Kata said hazily, not bothering to keep his eyes open anymore.
He was tired of everything.
Tired of the life he had been roped into.
Tired of the pain that came with the new marriage and his old marriage.
He was tired of being a tool in the Moskowsky household, and he was tired of how much it hurt to even live with them.
He was scared that his parents could think, yet for some reason, he refused to accept his parents seeing him suffer.
It was tiring, truly, how much he wanted to be a good son but could only be a broken son.
"Hey... I’m here, honey," Yaros said, with Rahim stepping back to give him space.
She didn’t know what to do. She had never been in such a position with the omega, ever; she wasn’t sure if this was ever the right thing to do.
Rahim knew the terms that were in the contract. She knew that Yaroslav had lost Katya. She knew that Sergei had married Katya.
She knew everything, yet right now, she was not sure if calling Sergei and telling him where they were was a good idea, especially if the omega called for the one person who had been home to him for five long years.
Maybe it was instinct, habit.
Or maybe it was just the reminder that even if they denied it, even if Yaroslav had become a bitch along the way, Katya Romanov would always love him.
"Yaro?" Katya mumbled, waking slightly.
"Baby," Yaroslav breathed as he gently carried Katya from the roadside and walked with him to his car.
Rahim watched in silence, knowing she was cooked for this. She knew Sergei would have her head.
However, the way that Katya had rested his head on Yaroslav’s shoulders was so natural.
The way that Katya had mumbled his little "I’m tired, Yaro."
The way that Katya had not even pushed the stinking alpha aback told her that maybe this was one that he couldn’t get involved in.
Maybe that was why she left a text to Svetlana, telling the mad woman that Katya was safe, that he was okay.
Rahim didn’t say with whom, but a part of her hoped that they would understand when everything was done and dusted.
"Sir, I’ll head back to the company now," Rahim said, bringing Kata’s trench coat to the Beta.
"Thank you, Rahim," Yaroslav said earnestly as he sat in the back seat with Katya. He had already input the coordinates in his car. And it was just a matter of time before they left.
Perhaps now that Rahim was going back to Katya’s car, things would be alright.
"You stink," Katya whined.
Yaroslav chuckled softly, tenderly, like this was almost their normal.
"Oh, yeah? What are you going to do about it, honey?" Yaroslav asked, as he stared at Katya like the man was his little heaven.
Like the man was the only thing that ever mattered in his life, and maybe he was, maybe later was the reminder of what life was like for him.
Maybe he was the reminder that sanity sometimes came in different forms, and fuck if he was not in love with the omega.
"Never cook your soup again," Katya whined sleepily, the effects of his pills finally kicking in.
"Baby..."
"You hurt me, Yaro," Katya mumbled, his body slowly giving into the darkness.
Perhaps because he felt safe with his ex-husband here. Or maybe it was because Yaroslav had every reason to be truly scared.
Even at his worst, his sanity still thought of Yaroslav alone.
Maybe he was cursed, but was that a valid argument right now?
"I know... fuck, I know. I didn’t... I wasn’t the kindest. But I promise it will be okay," Yaroslav cooed softly as Katya leaned against his shoulder, ignoring the stretch of the man who had just woken up for a three-day blackout himself.
"I... I really wanted our baby," Katya breathed, and Yaroslav felt his world stop for a moment.
He knew Katya always wanted a child, always wanted the fruit of their marriage. But they had earlier failed at it, so hearing him talk about it so defeatedly, so tiredly, Yaroslav felt his heart break even more for his omega.
"I’ll get us one... I promise, honey. I will," Yaroslav swore, as he gently pulled Katya’s right hand to his lips and kissed it tenderly, like the omega was the most sacred that he had ever seen and touched.
"I hate... I hate that I still love you," Kata said before he fell asleep on a frozen Yaroslav.
