[KATYA]
Fear.
That was the only thing Katya was feeling even as he was dragged away.
He didn’t know why he was being dragged away, but one thing he knew and could tell was that the woman was too powerful to even play games with him. That the woman had the fate of his mother in her hands.
That reality terrified Katya.
He was scared of what would come out of this.
So, he suddenly paused.
"We don’t have time," the man who was dragging him said boredly.
Katya just stared at him.
His eyes were blank, no disdain, no self-pity. Just a blank face that he had practiced for so long. A part of him hoped that this man, whoever he was, whatever he was determined to do, would not be able to read him.
"Washroom... I need a bathroom break," Katya said, and the man looked at him, furrowing a brow.
Katya had expected him to tell him no, but instead the man dragged him to the nearest washroom, ignoring the distant stares and the helpless looks he was getting from everyone.
His whole life was a circus, and Aslava hospital was witnessing him being manhandled, treated like he never had a choice, among other things that they wouldn’t have done if this were normal.
Perhaps this was the cost of it all, right?
"Five minutes. If you stay in there a minute longer, I’m dragging you out even if you still have your pants down," the man growled sharply, and Katya just nodded.
It was the only thing he could do.
The only thing he could manage in this tense moment.
His heart beat fast, and he felt like he was about to die. The fact that the woman earlier knew about the contract meant that he was powerful and also a part of Sergei’s circle. There was no other explanation.
Katya hadn’t seen Sergei in a week.
However, the news had been rampant about things that only Sergei could pull off. Which was why this shouldn’t have surprised him. He should have expected anything from the devil of Frolo.
Should have known that anything that got his life turned upside down had to do with the madman who took pride in every crazy, cruel thing he did.
And Katya... he didn’t know how else to deal with this.
"Remember. Five minutes," the man said as he checked the washroom stalls to make sure they were empty. Anyone would think that Katya was about to be murdered in here with the way the man was thorough.
Even so, was there a way for Katya to breathe easy in a place that only ever screamed pain?
’You have five minutes, Katya,’ the omega thought to himself as he got into one of the stalls.
He still held the contract in his shaking hands, unsure if anything would ever work for him. But he didn’t know what to do. So, desperately, he tried the one thing that could either confirm his misfortune or bury him even deeper.
Katya checked the page of the contract that he had seen a contact.
It was a long shot, but right now, even in his most desperate state, Katya knew there was only one person he could call.
He considered calling Yaroslav, but the man would probably come to drown him in more heartbreak.
And Katya wasn’t ready.
Hell, he wasn’t even strong enough to handle his mother’s operation just yet, despite the fact that it had been a crazy success.
So, he pulled out his phone and began dialing. It had been written in red right beside Sergei’s name. He knew it was probably an office landline, but he had to try. Shakily, he entered the numbers before dialing and waiting.
The phone didn’t even ring.
It went straight to voicemail.
Katya stared at it, then shakily stepped out to see if the gruff man from earlier was still there.
When he didn’t see him, Katya stepped back into the stall and tried again. He knew he was probably wishing g for a winter miracle in spring, but a man could hope.
He had nowhere to go.
No one to turn to.
At least one who was as strong to challenge the shit that was being dangled right before him out here anyway.
"This is Vladimir. If you’re not my Solnyshka, then you better hang up real fast, or the next time I see you will be your last," Sergei’s voice on the receiver came through, and for a moment, Katya wondered if he really wanted to do this.
There was a very high chance that Sergei had been the one to force this on him. That he set that darn woman outside to come after him. But there was also the chance that only Sergei could save him.
Oh, but Katya was conflicted.
The timer was running out, and he only had at least thirty seconds left before that gruff ma came after him in here. He didn’t doubt the fact that that man could tear him into pieces for breakfast, and he wouldn’t feel any remorse for it.
’Stop panicking,’ Katya snapped at himself but what the fuck was he supposed to do with thirty seconds?
He didn’t even know if this would end up being national ridicule or if this was going to be the one thing that fucked up whatever Sergei had come with for him. He was stressed.
Hell, he had never left a voicemail before, and given the way that no one had seen Sergei, this right here was the worst possible idea. The man probably didn’t even have one phone.
He was probably having the time of his life somewhere while his minions came to torment Katya and his family.
It was not fair, but it was what life had become for the Romanov boy.
"Mr. Moskowsky... this... this is Katya... its... It’s me, Sergei...I don’t know what’s happening, but they’re taking me somewhere... if... if it’s about the contract, please, I accept all the terms.
"I won’t cause you any trouble... please... please don’t let them hurt her... please don’t let them hurt mama," Katya said hurriedly, his voice shaking.
He was not sure Sergei would react to the message, but a part of him desperately hoped for it to happen. Maybe because the only person he knew who took shit from no one and who bent the universe whenever he moved was Sergei.
And maybe it was because he believed that Sergei would protect him, which was crazy, seeing as he had been so determined not to sign the damn contract.
Desperate times, desperate measures, right?
"Time’s um, Romanov," the man outside the door said harshly.
Katya sighed before straightening up.
He flushed the toilet even though they hadn’t even used it, then stepped out to clean his hands. Defeatedly, he ran water down his face, as if that was going to hide the fear he was feeling.
And then he stepped out, horrified still but determined to look as composed as he could.
He failed.
He still looked shaken.
"I won’t drag you again, but if you run, your mother will pay the price," the man warned.
Katya nodded unevenly.
Whoever this man was, whoever the woman he had come with was, there was no denying that they were way too powerful, especially since the hospital guards stared at Katya pitifully as he walked behind the man.
"You have fifteen minutes... If you fail, the cyanide... will do its job."
