[KATYA]
Everyone had left.
Now, it was just Anya, Volkov, and Katya in the room.
"Rahim will show you to your office. Make sure you settle fast. You’ll have an hour every lunch to see your mother. If you go past that, you don’t want to know what will happen.
"We won’t touch your family as long as you do your duties. And make sure your ex-husband understands and believes you want the divorce yourself and you weren’t forced into it. You will have a new residence.
"Rahim will drive you after the office. She will be available if you ever need anything. Keep your phone charged always. If we call, you must answer, regardless of the time of day. Your dress code will be what you are wearing now.
"Just different shades. Make sure to be clean and do your work properly. You have two weeks to show us that we didn’t waste resources saving your family, or we will take it all back, and your life too," Anya said coldly.
Her voice was doing all the work, and frankly, Katya knew he didn’t stand a chance if he broke any of the rules. Perhaps that was why he memorized them like a prayer sequence, because it was all too costly for him and everyone he cared about.
Granted, it was terrible what and how Anya had suggested. But he knew he didn’t have a choice, even if he wanted to protest. To say that some of the rules were unhinged, even for any common human decency.
Staying in the same type of clothes daily was definitely a recipe for hell.
And Katya knew he couldn’t even complain because she had stated her terms. She had done it while Volkov stayed there, looking at Katya grimly as if to tell the omega that they would be watching his every move.
Katya was horrified, but for some reason, he felt different. And he wasn’t sure if it was a good kind of difference, but one thing was constant. He was learning not to keep his guard down.
He was learning that the Moskowsky owned him. And there wasn’t much he could do about it. So, when Anya Volkov left, Rahim came in, and Katya composed himself.
He wasn’t here to make friends.
He wasn’t here to see what it was like to be the chairman of the most insane of groups.
He was here to survive.
He would earn every breath of his life and his family’s, even if he knew that at the end of the day, he would die at the hands of these people. It was the only agreeable fate in an empire that had people dying slowly every day.
"Sir, if you could please follow me," Rahim said, and Katya stared in confusion.
He didn’t like the way he read earnestness in her tone. It was confusing because, as an alpha, Rahim had no business having an omega boss, let alone being kinder to him. But what were the choices now, though?
Katya didn’t say a word.
He just got up and followed her out, like a headless chicken.
The office floor they were walking on was massive, and the desks were so scattered that it was almost impossible to say that this was an office.
The layout was insane, really, and the way everyone was working instead of gawking at him like he was a brothel worker had him questioning everything.
Because if Katya was being honest, he felt dirty.
Yet the declaration Anya had made earlier was not making things any easier for him.
It was a humiliation ritual, Katya was sure. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Because there was nothing that made it easy.
No one deserved to be paraded like this in an office with thousands of workers, and that too in different shades of the same clothing. There was no justification for the choice, but would Katya have even had the chance to breathe easy?
"Rahim..." Katya spoke calmly.
Rahim turned to look at him, her folders in her hands like this was just purely business. Of course, Katya understood that. He knew firsthand what this shit looked like, but he couldn’t help but have questions.
"May I ask a question?" Katya asked.
Gasps were heard around the office suddenly.
It was obvious they were watching him, which was not as surprising, but fuck, it was haunting. Didn’t these people have lives to get back to?
"Sir?" Rahim asked, the panic clear in her voice.
Katya was confused, in all honesty; he didn’t know what was going on, but it all didn’t sit well with him. Still, he didn’t have that many options and had to wait to hear what Rahim could say about the gas at the very least, right?
"I... never mind. Please, let us continue," Katya said, not explaining any room for arguments. He didn’t know what he was getting, but he knew that this was going to be way more hectic.
"Okay, sir,’ Rahim said, before she walked to a different section of the office.
An isolated space that only had one person. Just one.
And that creeped Katya out because there was no way the other sections of the office had so many employees, while this had only one person and two desks. It was unnerving as hell.
"This is your section, Mr. Katya. The free desk is mine, because I am your secretary. The man you are seeing here is..." Rahim said, but Katya breathed before she could finish.
"Volkov," Katya trailed off in confusion.
"Yes. You have met Mr. Volkov. He is Mr. Sergei’s personal assistant and aide," Rahim said, like she wasn’t talking about the one who terrified Katya so much that he was sure his entire world was going to crash on him.
At the same time, it made so much sense now. Of course, Sergei had ghosted.
And now it was up to Volkov to make sure his tools were working fine. It was a horror that Katya hadn’t imagined, and instead of being relieved, he felt terrified even more.
Volkov sitting here meant that he would be watched twenty-four seven. It meant that he would never have peace.
Oh, he was more than just doomed already.
He was screwed in all the ways to hell.
There was no way out of this one. And Katya knew he had to make peace with it. Peace with the fact that the man who had scared him shitless was sitting there casually like it was nothing. What the heck, right?
"Good afternoon, sir. I am Volkov, as Rahim said. I am Mr. Moskowsky’s personal assistant and aide," Volkov greeted in the most respectful way.
Katya was stunned to say the least.
Goodness, he didn’t even know what to say. Instead, he just started, because he knew that there was nothing that would change between them.
He knew that this was just a formality and that the fact that he was assigned an alpha to be his secretary right next to Volkov was just insane. Perhaps this was the end of Katya’s boring life, but what the hell was he to do about it at this point?
"Mr. Moskowksy?" Katya voiced like he hadn’t heard the man.
"Yes. Your office and Mr. Moskowsky’s are separated by glass, unlike the other offices. The glass can be frosted, but Miss Anya said to remove the frosting features until..." Rahima trailed off.
It was almost like she wasn’t sure what she wanted to say was something Katya would appreciate. They were already working themselves thin here, but what the heck, right?
"Until she is sure she can trust me not to burn her empire to the ground, great," Katya concluded.
Rahima just stared at him pitifully. She didn’t know what to say. Instead, she just guided the omega to his new office, something that was unsettling for Katya. Having an office separated by glass and close to Sergei’s office was dangerous.
And he didn’t have a choice.
The devil of Frolo would come back and find him here and demand everything. But what if Katya didn’t pass whatever test this was? Oh, but it was something that horrified Katya.
Because he had heard the rumors about Sergei Mososky.
He had seen footage of Yaroslav being shot. Footage that should have never existed because of patient confidentiality, but footage that existed because Sergei had demanded that a doctor take out his phone and record the incident.
It was the most barbaric thing Katya had seen.
And now he was stationed beside the damn barbarian.
’Is it too late for me to choose death?’ was all Katya could think of at the momentt.
