[SERGEI]
"Follow them, and don’t let them see us," Sergei said when he saw Katya’s ride get out of Knox.
He had made sure Rahim was in the driver’s seat and that Katya was okay. After the meeting he had had with Yaroslav, there was no doubt that there would be a ripple effect.
However, that wasn’t why Sergei wanted to see where Katya was headed.
Maybe because a part of him had Volkov trail the poor man all the time.
It was almost like stalking, and if Volkov hadn’t been there through Sergei’s epiphany about Katya and all the insanity phases, he would have recommended a therapist to his boss.
But his boss had gone to therapists that Anya had demanded he see, and he had managed to scare every therapist into giving him a clean bill of health. So now here they were.
"Sir? They are headed to the company," Volkov argued, because it was just what was expected. Besides, it was still morning, and there were no lunch breaks that Katya could take in between.
Katya never took breaks; he never even stepped out ever since his mother had been discharged.
And he had never called his parents.
Not once.
Sergei had noticed, and he wanted to ask why, but he didn’t even have the right authority to ask that of Katya. Not in the way that they were isolated from each other anyway.
At the same time, Sergei had grown more obsessive in the days that Katya had been away from the office.
Like Yaroslav, Katya had only returned to the office today, because he had insisted and because, as Anya had reported, Svetlana was determined to break his guards if they didn’t let Katya go to work and live his life as a free person.
Well, he was free now, wasn’t he?
"Wait... that isn’t the office road. Where the fuck are they going?" Sergei asked like he was haunted by one particular conversation with Svetlana.
A conversation that had never once let Sergei sleep.
Svet had threatened to take Katya away from him, and hesitantly, Sergei had tried to be rude about it. But he didn’t put it past the darn woman to try to take him away.
"They are turning on Elven street," Volkov pointed out, and Sergei almost stepped into the passenger seat just to see well.
He did.
After knocking a few things off the way and nearly causing Volkov to crash. He didn’t even apologize for it. Instead, the man had turned into a backseat driver, and it was not pretty.
"Sir, if we go any faster, we are going to crash," Volkov tried, but Sergei didn’t care.
"Did you pull your feet off that darn thing I’m throwing out on the highway and driving myself?" Sergei threatened.
He was dead serious.
Volkov knew it did darn well.
It was almost like the man was determined to kill him.
"But sir—" Volkov tried again, and Sergei just glared at him, before he unlocked the doors, the tension hanging between them.
Volkov shut instantly.
Then he stepped on the gas. He knew he would probably get flagged by authorities for this, but it wouldn’t matter because dying by Sergei’s hands was much worse than dying by anyone’s hands at all.
"They are gone. They are fuckin gone," Sergei said when they made the turn on Elven and saw no sign of the SUV Katya was in.
Sergei was losing his mind, so much so that he pulled his gun out, cocked it, and aimed it at Volkov’s head. He looked so angry, so enraged that he didn’t think of what this could ever mean for him.
Maybe Seger needed to see a specialist, one who would fix his mind, no?
"I will call Rahim, sir," Volkov offered, the gun still pressed hard against his temple.
"No."
"Sir?" Slavkov asked clearly not to expect the no. This was stressing him out, and he couldn’t even ask Sergei if he was okay in the head because everything was just happening too fast.
"I said no. Find a good parking spot. Am sure no one sees us. If you call Rahim, you will spook Solnyshka. And if you spook him, you die," Sergei said, getting out of the car that was still moving.
Volkov stayed rooted in the driver’s seat, watching his life flash by like it was nothing. Like all the times he had served, this barbarian was meant to get him to this point.
Was there even a hope that there would be better days for him with Sergei Moskowsky?
Finding a parking spot on Elven Street was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. This place was filled with high-end cars on the streets, and there was literally no space left because it was a busy morning.
It just made no sense that Katya would come here with Rahim, yet at the same time, Sergei wanting Volkov not to seek Rahim’s help was really something else.
"Sir, it’s parked," Volkov said, and Sergei turned to look at him, like really look at him.
"Why are you not with the car?" Sergei asked.
Volkov sighed in relief because he knew what that meant.
He would be staying back. Thankfully. Because honestly, he couldn’t handle another dysfunctional Sergei Moskowsky moment. This man was going to be the death of him if he didn’t make Volkov age a thousand years with every minute that passed.
"Noted, sir," Volkov said before he turned to leave, only stopping one moment.
"Sir?" Volkov said, and Sergei glared at him.
"What?"
"They are normal people in there," Volkov said, and then he left, before Sergei could even ask what that meant.
Sergei looked at himself once, twice, and thrice. He didn’t know what Volkov meant by that, but in his head, it translated to being in casual wear. This wasn’t the first time he was stalking Katya; this just happened to be the first time he was doing it when they were supposed to be working. But at the same time, it wasn’t fair to him that Rahim got to know where Katya was and Sergei didn’t.
Hell, Sergei was about to call Rahim himself even after insisting to Volkov.
"Maybe I need to change my clothes?" Sergei wondered as he looked around the street.
Thankfully, Elven Street was in the middle of the business district. While it was mostly officetels and cafes, there were a few clothing lines nearby. And Sergei walked to the nearest one, like he was going to buy a handkerchief.
Then he changed into something he believed was more casual.
A black polo-neck and black sweatpants.
He had left his fun, his phone, everything he had with him inside the shot.
The keeper didn’t even ask what that meant because everyone knew Sergei Moskowsky, and they knew that man was more dangerous without his weapons, which meant that even the gun was safe from Sergei, per se.
Determined, Sergei began to walk around Elven street, trying to figure out what Katya would do by trying to put himself in Katya’s shoes. But then what was he supposed to even do when the only thing that Katya ever cared about before this was...
"Yaroslav. Great," Sergei groaned as he tapped his pocket to find his phone and seek his son’s help.
But he had left it at the tailors.
Which was not as far, but he didn’t want to go back.
So, he gambled.
Luke is a man desperate to figure out the pieces of a puzzle.
"Yaroslav came to the office. Solnyshka has always loved that bastard. Where would he go?" Sergei wondered.
Then he remembered the one time he was busy stalking Katya when he saw the omega and Yaroslav come out from a café on the street.
And Sergei?
He did think twice.
He had an omega to see.
So, he tried, really tried to be normal about everything he did. But he was Sergei Moskowsky. He was the one man even unborn children of Frolo were already being made aware of.
There was no hiding.
It was already bad enough that he had changed clothes, but he did not look stupid as everyone in the street looked at him and hurried away.
It was a stark difference to how the city had treated Yaroslav that morning, but was that Sergei’s problem right now?
"Oh, that is unfortunate... we saw the broadcast. Never imagined he would cheat on a beautiful omega like you," Sergei heard an alpha in the distance say, and boy did he rush to the door to go give that man eternal sleep.
"Don’t you even think about it," Anya suddenly said.
Sergei ignored, thinking it was in his head.
Until a gentle hand squeezed his arm tightly, before dragging him away.
