[FROLO]
"The investors already pulled out, Mr. Gamov," Katya spoke calmly, like straight enough that the stubborn, stinking Moskowsky heir was going to make him change his attitude at the moment.
At Katya’s words, Yaroslav stiffened.
Like he had heard something else altogether.
There was just no way that that was real. The day hadn’t ended. But at the same time, the Moskowsky group was known for its settlement tendency. Which meant that by eight in the morning, the deal was either done or busted.
Yaroslav had reached the office at nine o’clock.
He had fucked up everyone’s efforts because he couldn’t do his work well.
Yaroslav turned to Katya, and everyone in the room assumed it was because of the workload and how things had gotten, after all, this was a formal meeting.
This was about the company, not about their quarrels as husbands.
This was about what they had been doing; what the protocols demanded was unknown to the Moskowsky group. Surely the heir apparent didn’t forget that, right? And as the board members watched, Yaro didn’t stop staring.
And when he opened his mouth...
"What’s with the formal titles, honey?" Yaroslav asked as if this was a marriage counselling meeting and they were here to try and sort out the issues between them. It was embarrassing to say the least.
Then again, there was no denying that the embarrassment had followed Yaroslav from the moment he had stepped out of Milan’s house and run to the company on a leg that had been bullet-riddled by his father barely weeks ago.
"The company made a loss of thirty million," Katya said instead, not willing to indulge Yaroslav.
This was neither the place nor the time.
"I’ll find another project and fix the mess. Besides, you were missing for three weeks, how was I supposed to focus when you were not around?" Yaroslav asked in a voice accusatory as if it was Katya’s fault that everything bad had happened.
Katya stared at his ex-husband, his eyes cold as he had just had enough of the Moskowskys. He couldn’t fight against Sergei because of the damn contract, but no clause said Yaroslav was not to be dealt with like he deserved.
And everyone felt it.
The tension.
The fact that it wasn’t even because of Sergei was more terrifying, because they all knew the truth. They heard it four days ago. How shit had happened, and now Yaroslav was here, oblivious to the real cost of his actions.
He was sounding like he was here to fix thighs like he had just messed someone’s life and called it a day, while hoping the omega would come back to him because he had a few black cards and the audacity of a thousand and one souls.
Oh, but Katya was pissed.
"Is that the policy at Moskowsky Group? You fail at important projects and act like it’s normal?" Katya asked, his voice still cold with disapproval.
That was new.
Very new.
That was a reaction that no one had expected.
Everyone expected him to crash out. It was honestly earned at this point because Yaroslav was pushing all his limits while acting like they were all good.
They wouldn’t have been offended if Katya had risen and decided to leave. Or if Katya had decided he was not doing this anymore.
But what they had not expected was this.
Katya being so passive, and the cold that radiated off of him like he was about to freeze the entire room.
Hell, even Sergei had stiffened.
He had been ready to talk to his son and remind him of the costs, but Katya’s delivery was something that reminded what this was. A business meeting, not a family gathering.
Sergei had never seen Katya that pissed. Ever.
Hell, he had never seen Katya pissed.
Rebellious, sure.
Angry for the conditions he was in? Sure.
But this was different, and it cut through the room clearly in the most terrifying of ways.
"This is not the time and place, honey," Yaros insisted as if that was supposed to make Katya reconsider what he was saying.
Katya had remained stoic.
The professionals and everyone in the room watched in silence. It was a comfortable silence, though, because this was a first for him. They had never seen Katya that angry, and the worst part was that he wasn’t even personal.
The conversation was strictly professional for him.
"You’re right. This is not the time and place to be talking about already failed projects. Your property next to the 13th Emerald will be auctioned to pay for the damages," Katya said coldly, not reacting once to Yaroslav having called him honey.
And it had Sergei feeling some type of way, because he wanted Jatya to deny that he was not Yaroslav’s honey.
Sure, Sergei was not expecting Katya to come to him and thank him with everything for imprisoning him, but he just didn’t like how Katya had refused to say shit about what Yaroslav was calling him.
"What the fuck are you even talking about?" Yaro asked, pissed.
He didn’t like this one bit.
And the fact that Katya was the one delivering news to him, deciding his fate, didn’t sit well with him. His omega was his husband, but even Katya had no power to decide the fate of Yaroslav’s properties.
Then again, as the group chairman, Katya could, because those properties were still under Moskowsky, and Sergei had given him the power to decide what was best for the company.
But damn, that was cold.
"Business. Your incompetence cost the company clients and millions. Unless you’re willing to spend a year in prison for the loss, then sure, I can calculate the actual number instead of the average thirty million if you want me to," Katya said flatly, without any emotion in his voice. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Did Yaroslav really not see that Katya didn’t want shit to do with him, or was she just choosing to be in his own zone because he was Yaroslav, a Moskowsky who would be rejected plainly?
But had Katya rejected him or had it been his own decisions that had gotten him to this point?
"Baby..." Yaroslav tried.
"You have until mid-day to decide," Katya said as he closed the folder before him, then he turned to the board.
"The meeting is over. Do as was instructed. If you need any clarification, the secretaries are available. If you have to come meet me, it needs to be something that the secretaries can’t brainstorm for you, otherwise you will be wasting both our time."
"Katya..." Yaroslav said as the board members shifted out of the room.
Anya was still in her seat, just like Sergei and Yaroslav.
The secretaries had long left, too.
"What the fuck was that?" Yaroslav seethed
"It’s nothing personal," Katya said, getting up to leave.
"Nothing personal? You ignored me like I don’t exist!" Yaro complained.
Katya sighed.
"Maybe try having a proper conversation with me when you’re at least hygienic enough. You know where to find me," Katya said before giving Yaroslav a once-over and sighing in disappointment.
"If you want attention, Milan already gives you enough," Katya added.
"Excuse me, sir," Katya added to Sergei, before leaving the office.
"What the hell just happened?" Yaroslav asked.
"Baby, please! Wait, I can explain!" Yaroslav shouted as he raced toward the door.
But Sergei pressed the button to lock the door from inside.
And suddenly it was just Sergei, Anya ad Yaroslav
"Boy, sit down."
