### Chapter 92: You Are a Hawthorne Wife
Nina Wainwright walked up to the men in suits and said politely, "Hello."
Mrs. Wainwright followed her, not daring to say a word now.
"We have a contract here we’d like you to sign. It’s fine if you don’t. We’ll just proceed with compulsory enforcement when the time comes." The man in the lead handed a document to Nina Wainwright.
Nina Wainwright saw the name of a bank written on the document.
She lowered her gaze and began to read it carefully.
It was written very clearly. Raymond Wainwright had borrowed thirty million and guaranteed repayment within a week, but more than a week had already passed... Therefore, the house was to be repossessed, and all bank accounts under his and Mrs. Wainwright’s names would be frozen...
Before Nina Wainwright could say anything after reading, Mrs. Wainwright started crying out, "On what grounds are you taking my house away?!"
"When you took out the loan, you and your husband handled it at the bank together. It was stated that if you failed to repay it by the due date, the house would be used as collateral. You signed your names and provided your ID numbers yourselves. And now you’re asking on what grounds?" the lead man retorted.
Hearing this, Mrs. Wainwright immediately grabbed Nina Wainwright’s hand, crying, "Where will we live if the house is gone? Hurry up and call Zachary Hawthorne! Thirty million is nothing for him to pay back..."
"I’m not calling him," Nina Wainwright said, her face devoid of expression. "You’d better tell me right now where on earth Raymond Wainwright is. He took out a loan from a legitimate bank, so how could he possibly have disappeared?"
’Nina suspected he knew this day would come and didn’t want to pay the bank back, so he’d dumped the problem on her again.’
’She couldn’t even understand why Raymond Wainwright would treat her like this.’
"Nina... Your father really is missing this time..."
"Mom, I already told you, Zachary Hawthorne won’t give us the money. You took out a thirty-million-dollar loan. He’ll find out with a simple check. Do you think he’s an idiot? You take out a loan, mortgage the house, and then try to force him to pay for it? Why should he?" Nina Wainwright truly didn’t know how her mother had the nerve to always tell her to go to Zachary Hawthorne.
"Just sign it. Don’t waste our time," the man said impatiently.
"Let me see if I can scrape some money together over the next few days..." Nina Wainwright said to them. "Could you give us a month?"
"We go by what the contract stipulates. If you want to blame someone, blame your parents for signing it!" the man’s tone was aggressive.
Nina Wainwright handed the contract back to him. "Then I won’t sign. Just wait for the compulsory enforcement."
’If she signed it now, when the house was gone later, Raymond Wainwright and Mrs. Wainwright would definitely blame her again.’
"Nina, are you just going to let them take the house?" Mrs. Wainwright asked loudly when she saw Nina had no intention of resolving the issue.
"How am I supposed to handle it? By getting on my knees and begging Zachary Hawthorne for you?!" Nina Wainwright snapped.
When the men from the bank heard her mention Zachary Hawthorne several times, they knew not to push too hard. With grim faces, they just said, "Since you plan to let the bank handle it, we won’t force you."
After they left, Mrs. Wainwright immediately started crying, "So you’re just going to abandon us..."
"How am I supposed to handle thirty million?! I think you two are completely out of your minds! Have you forgotten how cornered we were last time over two million?!" Nina Wainwright was flushed with anger.
’Thirty million! How dare they take out a loan that big!’
"You don’t tell me when you take out the loan, but when the debt collectors show up, it’s my fault for not handling it?! Fine, I won’t handle it! You can solve the mess you made yourselves! Did I take that thirty million?! I told you to earn money honestly, but you wouldn’t listen. What does that have to do with me?!" Fuming, Nina Wainwright turned and walked away.
She had only taken two steps when she felt a dull ache in her lower abdomen.
Mrs. Wainwright came forward, grabbing her hand and crying, "Nina... just help us this one time..."
Nina Wainwright shook her off, her eyes bloodshot. "You say that again and again! Every single time! I won’t help. If you feel you raised me for nothing, then take my life today! I don’t want to live anymore! With parents as reckless as you, I’d rather be dead!"
"Nina..." Mrs. Wainwright was a blubbering mess.
Nina Wainwright ignored her.
She quickly left the residential complex, hailed a cab, and got in.
As they neared Avelon Residence, her phone rang again.
Nina Wainwright saw it was another unknown number. Annoyed, she pressed the answer key. "Hello."
"Are you looking for your father? We have him. If you want to save him, bring the money," the person on the other end said coldly.
"Sorry, I don’t have any money," Nina Wainwright said gravely.
’Everything was a mess. She just wanted a peaceful life, not one that revolved only around money.’
"Nina Wainwright, we were the ones who tricked him into taking out the thirty-million loan. If you don’t come, you can just wait to collect his corpse," the person said with a vicious laugh.
"Who are you people? Why are you targeting our Wainwright Family?!" Nina Wainwright’s face turned cold, her tone laced with hatred.
The person chuckled. "You’re Zachary Hawthorne’s wife, right? Let me be honest with you. Zachary Hawthorne doesn’t really have any enemies... This was all part of our plan. The goal is to get you out of the Hawthorne Family."
Nina Wainwright’s lips pressed into a thin line.
’So it really wasn’t Raymond Wainwright’s fault this time... Was it because I married into the Hawthorne Family?’
"If I get out of the Hawthorne Family, who gets in? Miss Sterling?" Nina Wainwright asked calmly.
"Miss Sterling is pregnant with Zachary Hawthorne’s child, so she has to marry him. You didn’t really think... her child would be born illegitimate, did you?" the man asked with a laugh. "Thirty million, and your father will be fine."
With that, the other party hung up.
’She had to get this thirty million from Zachary Hawthorne.’
Nina Wainwright put down her phone and received a picture message.
Raymond Wainwright was tied to a chair, his body covered in wounds.
As soon as she finished looking at it, the picture expired and was deleted.
Nina Wainwright returned to Avelon Residence and saw Zachary Hawthorne sitting in the living room watching a game. She walked over and hesitated for a long while before finally speaking. "Zachary..."
"Need money again?" Zachary Hawthorne leaned back on the sofa, tilting his head to look at her, a sneer in his eyes.
Nina Wainwright bit her lip, her voice weak as she asked, "How did you know?"
"The bank called me directly. Your parents told them I’m their son-in-law, so I should be the one to pay back the thirty million. Where’s your father?" Zachary Hawthorne’s tone was laced with impatience.
"He can’t come right now," Nina Wainwright replied. "Just this once..."
"How many ’just this once’s’ have there been? Do you even know?! Nina Wainwright, this time it’s thirty million. I’m not giving you a single cent!" Zachary Hawthorne said, standing up to leave.
Nina Wainwright grabbed him. "Zachary, my dad has been kidnapped. As long as you pay the thirty million, I’ll do whatever you say. From now on, I’ll listen to you—"
"You think you’re worth that much? Your dad took out a loan from a legitimate bank. They wouldn’t go so far as to kidnap him. Can’t you even come up with a useful lie?!" Zachary Hawthorne shook her off with a look of disgust. "I’m leaving for a business trip. If you considered yourself a wife of the Hawthorne Family instead of a daughter of the Wainwright Family, you’d let them solve their own problems and suffer the consequences!"
