###Chapter 100: Let’s Get a Divorce
When Nina Wainwright woke up the next day, she was running a high fever again.
Adrian Pemberton and Catherine Grant bustled in and out, finally breathing a sigh of relief once her fever broke.
Nina lay in bed, her lips completely drained of color. She reached out and grabbed Catherine’s hand, asking with difficulty, "My mom wouldn’t have slit her wrists for no reason. There must be a reason."
Catherine gripped her hand and said softly, "Nina, yesterday afternoon, Luna Sterling and her group went to see your mother first. They got into an argument, and your mom slapped Luna. Later, Zachary Hawthorne showed up and had someone take Luna away. Then he talked with your mom for a long time. They intentionally provoked Mrs. Wainwright."
Hearing this, boundless hatred filled Nina’s eyes. "Luna Sterling was pretending this whole time... She was just waiting for this day, to see my family ruined and destroyed. I won’t let the Sterling Family get away with this, and I won’t let her get away with it!"
Mrs. Wainwright had told her in a message that Luna Sterling personally admitted to getting rid of her child.
She knew that even if she told Zachary, he wouldn’t believe her. He would even defend Luna Sterling.
"Nina, the most important thing right now is for you to recover. The Sterling Family, the Talbot Family, the Ford Family, and even the Hawthorne Family are all intertwined. If we want to go against them, it will take a lot of time." As a member of a prominent family herself, Catherine knew exactly how indestructible those families were when they stood together.
Even if Zachary stood on Nina’s side, it would be hard to win, let alone the fact that he would never stand on her side.
Nina’s eyes were red, the tip of her nose flushed. She gritted her teeth. "I know... I know..."
After saying that, she couldn’t stop herself from crying.
Catherine hugged her, patting her back. "Nina, the mills of God grind slowly, but they grind exceedingly fine. One day, they will get the punishment they deserve."
Nina hummed in response. Even if they were just words of comfort, they were a sign of Catherine’s kindness.
Adrian Pemberton came in from outside carrying a food container. He walked to the table at the side and said gently to Nina, "Eat something first. You need to get your strength back before you can deal with all the things that still need to be handled."
Nina held onto Catherine’s hand and sat up.
Just as Adrian handed the food to Nina, the hospital room door was pushed open.
Zachary Hawthorne stood in the doorway, his eyes fixed on Nina. He began, "I didn’t know your mother would do something so foolish."
Without a second thought, Nina threw the food container in her hands directly at him. "What are you doing here?! What are you doing here!"
Her questions were practically a hysterical shriek.
’Wasn’t it enough that they conspired to kill my mother? Now he’s here to play the good guy?! They knew Mom had just lost her husband, yet they still maliciously provoked her.’
Nina had seen them use these filthy tactics countless times. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
The food container didn’t hit him.
Nina was too weak; the container didn’t even travel far.
Soup and food spilled all over the floor.
"Nina..." Zachary called out, his brow furrowed.
Nina stared at him, her face filled with disgust. "Are you still trying to make excuses for Luna Sterling and the others? I haven’t forgotten how aggressive you all were at the resort. Using disgusting methods to drive people with less powerful families to their deaths—isn’t that the signature move for you rich young masters and mistresses?"
"The Wainwright Family may not have money, and for you, dealing with my family—including me—is as easy as crushing an ant. But do you think I’m afraid? Zachary Hawthorne, I will never forgive what you’ve all done in this lifetime. One of you killed my mother, one of you killed my child, one of you killed my father. Every single debt, every single score... I will settle them all!" Nina’s eyes were bloodshot, her voice dripping with hatred.
"You think your mother’s death has something to do with me, too?" Zachary asked, his face grim.
Nina had no desire to answer him. Instead, she said coldly, "Let’s get a divorce. Don’t make me sue you."
Catherine squeezed Nina’s hand and said firmly, "If you want to sue him, I’ll give you all my money to support you!"
Adrian Pemberton glanced coldly at Zachary, though his tone remained as gentle as ever. "I won’t talk about other things. But my hand was crippled by someone, and I’ve already found a good deal of evidence. You can choose not to believe it, but I believe that the wicked can’t stay lucky forever."
Zachary’s gaze fell on him. "Then why not present it now?" he asked, full of indifference.
"When I choose to present it is my business. When Nina first got pregnant, the doctors who helped conceal it were all harmed—myself included, along with another. We will continue gathering evidence until it’s enough to put the culprits away. Zachary, if you have even a shred of affection left for Nina, or any anticipation for the child she was carrying—your child—then you should thoroughly investigate what happened to the Wainwright Family," Adrian said calmly.
Zachary didn’t answer him. Instead, he looked at Nina. "You really want a divorce, don’t you?"
Nina didn’t hesitate for a second. "Do you think I’m joking?"
Zachary had known for a while that she wanted a divorce, but back then, he had always felt there must have been some reluctance in her heart.
But now that they had reached this point, there was surely no reluctance left inside her.
Nina was so determined, so full of hate... The only thing missing was the tender affection she once had.
"Silas Sinclair will send you the divorce papers," Zachary said, then turned and left.
Downstairs, he leaned against his car, a grim and hostile air clinging to him.
Silas Sinclair stood to the side, watching him in silence.
"First, investigate who was responsible for the death of my child," Zachary told Silas.
Silas took note, then asked, "Should we proceed as previously discussed? Leave the Avelon Residence to her?"
"Put it in the supplementary conditions. Don’t make it obvious," Zachary said before opening the car door and getting in.
Silas immediately got into the driver’s seat. After starting the engine, he couldn’t help but ask, "The Wainwright Family’s funeral arrangements—should we continue to handle them?"
"Aren’t Adrian Pemberton and Catherine Grant handling it? Then there’s no need. Since she wants a divorce, anything related to the Wainwright Family has nothing to do with us," Zachary said flatly.
The more he involved himself, the more others would think he cared about Nina.
Silas made a call and pulled all his men back.
After staying in the hospital for two days, Nina received the divorce papers brought by Silas Sinclair.
She took the agreement and began to read it carefully.
"If there’s anything you’re dissatisfied with, or anything you don’t understand, you can ask me," Silas said politely.
Nina glanced through it. She was to leave with practically nothing, but the thirty million that the Wainwright Family owed was included in the agreement.
She did not refuse the thirty million.
Things had come to this. Two lives from her family... thirty million was letting Zachary Hawthorne off easy.
She signed the agreement without hesitation.
"Mr. Hawthorne said that for three years, you must keep your past marriage a secret. There will be further compensation after three years," Silas added as he took the signed agreement from her.
Nina looked up at him, a sarcastic smile touching her lips. "Is that so?"
’In three years, I’ll make Luna Sterling and the others pay. Every last one of them!’
’Zachary Hawthorne had better pray he had no part in driving her mother to her death.’*****
