### Chapter 64: You Really Want to Divorce Me?
She lifted her gaze and saw Zachary Hawthorne standing by the door. His hair was a mess, his clothes were rumpled, and there was even blood on his shirt. His eyes were completely bloodshot.
Nina Wainwright sat up, watching him quietly.
Zachary Hawthorne glanced at her, then walked apathetically toward the bathroom.
Nina Wainwright watched him slam the door, her lips pressed into a thin line. She lay back down and stared blankly out the window.
Zachary Hawthorne was in the shower for a long time. When he finally came out, he saw Nina Wainwright lying with her eyes open, staring at the window. "You did that on purpose, didn’t you?" he asked, his voice hoarse.
"What happened to her?" Nina Wainwright’s gaze fell upon him as she asked with exceptional calm.
"None of your business," Zachary Hawthorne said, grabbing some clothes as he prepared to leave.
Nina Wainwright didn’t try to stop him. Since he wasn’t talking, she couldn’t be bothered to press the issue.
After getting dressed, Zachary Hawthorne frowned at Nina Wainwright. "Do you really want a divorce?" he asked.
At his words, Nina Wainwright’s eyes snapped to his, her breathing quickening.
’So, in the end, he was going to use Luna Sterling as an excuse to kick me out of his world.’
"That depends on you," she said calmly after composing herself.
Zachary Hawthorne stared at her, scoffed, then grabbed his jacket and left.
He paused at the doorway and turned back to Nina. "If you feel even a shred of guilt, you’ll come to the hospital and see her."
Nina turned to face him. "What should I feel guilty about? Zachary, my conscience is clear. I didn’t do a thing to her. Don’t pin something someone else did on me. You’re a capable man; you could have investigated what really happened. But instead, the first thing you did was call and yell at me."
"You want proof?" Anger flashed in Zachary Hawthorne’s eyes. He took out his phone, opened the gallery, played a video, and slammed the phone onto the bed.
He didn’t control his strength. The phone bounced on the mattress and hit Nina’s ankle.
She hissed in pain involuntarily.
Zachary Hawthorne took a step forward, about to ask if she was okay, but he restrained himself.
Nina watched the video. In it, Luna Sterling was being dragged away by a group of men. Meanwhile, she herself was standing at the entrance of The Oracle Theater, watching with a cold, indifferent expression, ignoring Luna’s pleas for help.
After watching the video, she picked up the phone and held it out to Zachary. "So this is the pretext you were looking for to divorce me?"
"The video is the proof. Are you still going to deny it?" Zachary retorted.
"I won’t argue. If you think I’m that vicious, if you feel you can’t go on with me, I can grant your request. A divorce, whatever you want. I’ve said it before: I won’t take a single thing from you. I’ll leave with nothing." Nina Wainwright had agreed to go out with Luna Sterling, half-expecting her to pull some kind of stunt.
After all, her plan was to use Luna to escape this prison of a marriage.
Nina couldn’t even be bothered to explain.
Zachary Hawthorne was no longer important to her.
Her youthful infatuation, the feelings from their three years of marriage—it had all vanished the moment he cheated on her.
"You’d better pray nothing serious happens to Luna. Otherwise, you can forget about getting a divorce in this lifetime!" Zachary Hawthorne spat out before turning and storming away.
Outside, he leaned against his car and took a deep breath.
Silas Sinclair stood nearby. "Should we investigate further?" he asked in a low voice.
"She didn’t deny it," Zachary Hawthorne said, looking up at the still-lit window.
’When they first married, he hadn’t cared much for Nina Wainwright. He’d had a favorable impression of her, but he couldn’t say it was love.’
’But gradually, he didn’t know when, he had started to care about this room, about the light that was always on for him, no matter how late it was.’
’It was like her affection for him—warm and gentle. Whenever he was working, just the thought of that light, his own personal beacon, filled him with an indescribable sense of satisfaction.’
’But now... that light was gone. It hadn’t been lit for him in a very long time.’
’He even suspected that Nina’s indifference to Luna Sterling’s plight was a way to force him into a divorce.’
’She didn’t want to continue on with him.’
"Your wife has been acting very strangely lately," Silas Sinclair said. "Perhaps... she simply didn’t want to deny it. Makeup artistry is so advanced these days; it’s possible someone was impersonating her."
Zachary Hawthorne scoffed. "Impersonating her? Are you implying it was someone from Luna Sterling’s circle?"
’The only people who knew he was married to Nina were Luna Sterling and Caleb Ford.’
’If news of his marriage had been leaked, he absolutely wouldn’t have let Nina go out with Luna Sterling.’
’This time it was Luna Sterling. Next time, it could be Nina.’
Silas Sinclair fell silent.
Zachary Hawthorne leaned against the car, silent for a long moment, before turning to open the door. "Don’t bother with her anymore. Tell her she can do whatever the hell she wants."
Silas Sinclair was stunned for a moment.
"What if she wants to go dancing?" he couldn’t help but ask.
The truth was, Zachary Hawthorne disliked entertainment-related skills. Singing, dancing, acting—he didn’t approve of any of them.
"I said, leave her be," Zachary Hawthorne repeated as he got into the car, tugging at his collar.
’She had been causing trouble for so long, using every trick in the book. Zachary Hawthorne felt exhausted. On top of the endless work at the company, he had to deal with her drama.’
Nina Wainwright was lying in a daze when a knock came at her door.
She looked toward the door.
"Miss Wainwright, it’s me," Silas Sinclair said from outside.
"Come in," Nina Wainwright said, pulling the blanket up and wrapping herself tightly in it.
Silas Sinclair pushed the door open but didn’t enter, simply standing in the doorway. "Mr. Hawthorne said that if you’re feeling bored at home, you can go out and find something to do. He’s very busy lately and probably won’t be back for a long time. Miss Wainwright, if you have any difficulties, just give me a call."
Nina Wainwright was surprised, but she quickly understood.
’He was making this concession for Luna Sterling’s sake.’
"What happened to Luna Sterling?" Nina Wainwright asked.
Silas Sinclair hesitated for a moment before replying, "Miss Sterling stepped out to take a call and was abducted by one of Mr. Hawthorne’s enemies. When we found her, she had narrowly escaped a terrible fate. She’s severely traumatized."
’So that was it. Zachary wasn’t coming back because he was going to stay at the hospital and watch over her.’
"Alright, I understand." Nina turned over, her back facing Silas Sinclair. "In that case, please tell him that it was *his* enemy who caused Luna Sterling’s incident. Even if the person in that video really was me and I just watched, he has no right to blame me. He should be blaming himself."
Silas Sinclair frowned, looking like he wanted to say something, but in the end, he closed the door in silence.
Nina Wainwright turned off the bedroom light.
Downstairs, Zachary Hawthorne saw the light in her room go out and averted his gaze.
When Silas Sinclair returned and had just gotten into the car, he heard Zachary Hawthorne ask coolly, "What did she say?"
"She didn’t say much," Silas Sinclair replied.
Zachary Hawthorne’s lips curved into a sarcastic smile. He leaned back against the seat and, after a long pause, said, "Let’s go to the office first. Send more men to watch over the hospital." 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Yes, sir," Silas Sinclair replied immediately.
The car drove off into the night.
Zachary Hawthorne had barely closed his eyes for a few seconds when his phone rang again.
He saw it was Mrs. Sterling calling. He answered the call, his voice low. "Mrs. Sterling, still awake this late?"
"I saw a video! Aren’t you going to give me a proper explanation of what’s going on?" Mrs. Sterling’s voice was filled with rage.
