###Chapter 102: A New Beginning
Sandra Walsh gasped. "You lost the baby? Was it an accident, or did Zachary not want it?"
When she’d said she couldn’t dance because she had to take care of her pregnancy, Sandra had been sure Nina was looking forward to this child.
"Someone caused it," Nina said in a low voice.
Anger filled Sandra Walsh’s voice. "How could this happen?! A life... Who did it?"
"I don’t know, Ms. Walsh. It’s a bit complicated, and I can’t explain it over the phone," Nina said softly. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Sandra Walsh sighed. "Then... after the divorce, did you get anything?"
"I got some money," Nina said. Zachary Hawthorne paid off the thirty-million bank loan as my compensation.
Sandra Walsh sighed repeatedly upon hearing this. "You need to focus on your recovery first. I’ll look into some things for you in the next few days. But if you need to make a living, the dance troupe’s pay... isn’t a guarantee. You know how it is in this profession—the starting pay is very low unless you become a star."
"I know. I’ll do other work too. As long as the troupe will have me," Nina said softly.
"Where are you staying now? I’ll come see you tomorrow." Sandra Walsh had taught so many dancers, but Nina Wainwright was the most beautiful. She genuinely saw her as a daughter and had intended to groom her for success.
It was a shame that as soon as Nina graduated, she had ignored her mentor’s objections and married someone. She hadn’t said a word about it for three years. At the time, Sandra had thought she must be in some kind of trouble... It wasn’t until Zachary Hawthorne showed up at the restaurant where they were eating that she learned Nina was married.
"I’m in the hospital right now," Nina answered honestly.
"I’ll contact you again tomorrow. Get some rest and take care of yourself." After saying this, Sandra Walsh let out a soft sigh.
Nina hung up the phone. She suddenly felt that her decision to marry Zachary Hawthorne, throwing all caution to the wind, was a complete joke. Ending up in a situation like this... ’Wasn’t it a result of my own greed?’
She couldn’t even bring herself to feel pity for herself.
The brilliant fireworks had faded, leaving behind only endless desolation.
It wasn’t that Nina wasn’t sad, but hatred prevented her from wallowing in her failed life. She fell back onto the bed, wrapped herself in the blanket, and choked back sobs.
’What kind of path have I chosen for the past three years?’
’In the end, I lost everything. My parents, my child... and even the love I thought I had.’
Nina wished so desperately that this was all a dream, that she could wake up three years in the past. ’I would have definitely refused my parents and followed Ms. Walsh to pursue dance... Wouldn’t everything be different then?’
’I wouldn’t have lost my parents. I wouldn’t have been left all alone.’
Nina cried herself to sleep and woke up to daylight.
Because Sandra Walsh was coming, she took a shower and made herself look clean and presentable.
Sandra Walsh arrived a little before ten in the morning, carrying some fruit. The moment she entered the hospital room and saw how much thinner Nina had become, she hurried over, her face full of heartache. "Why didn’t you listen to me back then?"
"I was wrong, Ms. Walsh. I regret it so much. I regret it to the point that I wish I could turn back time." Nina hung her head, her face filled with self-blame.
Sandra Walsh had done some digging last night and found out that both of Nina’s parents had passed away... and that Nina didn’t even know who the enemy that killed her father was. She had known long ago that being the wife of a man from a wealthy and powerful family was not so easy.
Especially being Zachary Hawthorne’s wife.
Zachary Hawthorne’s business was massive. If his enemies investigated him and found Nina and the Wainwright Family, their lives would be made miserable.
’What wouldn’t people do for profit?’
"Nina..." Sandra Walsh placed the fruit on the bedside cabinet.
Turning, she pulled Nina into her arms, her voice full of compassion. "You still have me... I’m here with you..."
Nina clutched at her clothes like a child and cried out, "Ms. Walsh, I don’t have a home anymore..."
Like a wounded animal, she let out a choked sob. "I never thought... I just fell in love with someone, and I lost everything. They destroyed my family, and I couldn’t do anything... They bully me..."
Sandra Walsh’s heart ached hearing this.
Nina had a gentle disposition, but she was resilient. Back when she was dancing, she never complained about the hardships and worked harder than anyone else.
Sandra Walsh had always believed Nina had a bright future, that she would one day stand in the spotlight and become the school’s most celebrated alumna... But she never expected that seeing her again three years later, she would find her life in such a state.
Patting her on the back, Sandra Walsh said softly, "I’m here..."
"Ms. Walsh, I want to be the lead dancer. I want to meet important people. Otherwise, my parents will have died in vain, and I’ll never get the truth or find justice for them." Nina pulled away from Sandra Walsh, hatred in her eyes.
"Do you know who caused their deaths?" Sandra Walsh asked with a frown.
"It was a group of rich second-generation heirs," Nina said in a low voice. She couldn’t say who it was directly, as she didn’t have any solid evidence yet.
’The bank loan, the kidnapping... without power, it’s impossible to investigate any of it.’
Hearing this, Sandra Walsh’s expression turned solemn. "I’m afraid that will take a very long time. But since you’ve asked for my help, I won’t just stand by and do nothing."
Nina was about to kneel, but Sandra Walsh quickly pulled her up. "From now on, you focus on dancing well. Don’t throw away your talent for romance ever again. No matter how gifted a person is, that gift will be taken away by the heavens if it’s not used. Marrying into a rich family can’t guarantee you a life without worries. Only what you achieve on your own truly belongs to you."
"I understand, Ms. Walsh," Nina said, her face stained with tears.
’Her life was a mess, but... she still had her teacher and friends who hadn’t abandoned her.’
Sandra Walsh helped her sit down and patted her hand. "The most important thing for you right now is to recover. Don’t overthink things. I will find an opportunity for you to join the troupe. But whether or not you can seize it is up to you."
"The fact that you’re willing to give me a chance is more than I could ask for, Ms. Walsh," Nina said in a low voice.
"When you join the troupe, you need to keep a low profile and learn first. Those rich people can have you replaced with just a little money. Only when you become irreplaceable can they not get rid of you. That’s how the world works. If you’re not the most outstanding, you’re the one who can be replaced at any time," Sandra Walsh said earnestly.
She was afraid that three years of luxury had given Nina lofty ambitions but made her unwilling to do the hard work.
But dancing was a profession that demanded great hardship for little pay, and most importantly, it was a very tough grind.
Some people were talented, but they still couldn’t make it. However, this line of work did have one advantage: it was easy to come into contact with powerful people. Some of the girls were beautiful, and even if their careers were mediocre, they came from clean family backgrounds and had spotless reputations. Men of a certain status were often willing to marry them.
"I’ll remember what you’ve said, Ms. Walsh," Nina said, a hint of determination in her eyes.
"It’s true that you can easily meet powerful people in this profession, but whether or not you can seize those opportunities is up to you." After saying this, Sandra Walsh sighed again.
She truly lamented the three years Nina had wasted. Otherwise, why would Nina be the one begging her for help now? It should have been the other way around.
