### Chapter 56: Can You Get Out of My Sight?

The moment she cried out, a sharp pain flared in her lower abdomen.

Nina Wainwright instinctively doubled over.

Grandpa Pemberton immediately took out his phone to call Adrian Pemberton.

Years ago, Grandma Pemberton had been framed, and her medical license was revoked. She was barred from practicing for life; her career was ruined. Now, just when she’d finally seen Adrian Pemberton follow in her footsteps, he had to go and have something like this happen to him.

Nina Wainwright glared daggers at Talia Talbot.

Talia Talbot, feeling not an ounce of guilt, smugly crossed her arms.

Zachary Hawthorne stood off to the side, watching in silence. Seeing her stand up for Adrian Pemberton and Grandpa Pemberton, he found the whole thing ironic. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

He scoffed. "This is boring."

With that, he turned to leave.

"Zach, are you still going to make that call?" Caleb Ford asked.

Zachary Hawthorne, who had reached the doorway, replied coolly, "Are you that desperate for the price of a bowl of noodles?"

Nina’s gaze followed the sound of his voice. ’They treat other people’s livelihoods like a game... and now he says it’s boring? So, was this whole spectacle put on just to entertain him?’

Unable to reach Adrian Pemberton, Grandpa Pemberton turned back to Nina. "Is what she said true? That he can’t hold a scalpel anymore? What on earth happened?"

Seeing Nina stay silent, Talia Talbot chimed in, "He got targeted. Someone stabbed his hand right through. Oh, that’s just what I heard from a doctor. And let me remind you, he’s only known her for a little while. This probably happened because of her. Her family took out bridge loans—they’ve got plenty of enemies."

She was a real pro at adding fuel to the fire.

Nina couldn’t take it anymore. She walked around the disbelieving Grandpa Pemberton, went right up to Talia Talbot, and asked with red-rimmed eyes, "Haven’t you said enough?"

Her voice was soft and carried no real threat.

Talia Talbot had never been afraid of her. She immediately jutted out her chin. "So what if I haven’t? Who do you think you’re getting tough with? Am I wrong?! Was I not telling the truth?!"

Nina slapped her across the face.

Talia Talbot immediately shoved her back. "You fucking dare hit me?!"

Nina’s lower back slammed into a table, and the impact sent a jolt through her abdomen. She tried to double over from the pain, but her lower back was also screaming in agony.

Bracing herself against the table, she could barely stay on her feet. "You... you’ve gone too far... I don’t want to fight with you. I don’t want to see you. But you come all the way here to bully an old man and then you verbally attack me... Are you even human?!"

Her eyes were rimmed with red.

Seeing that Talia Talbot was about to retort, Luna Sterling immediately cut in, "That’s enough!"

Grandpa Pemberton collapsed onto the floor, looking utterly lost.

Looking at the people filling the room, what was there left to misunderstand? This group had come for Nina. The bees must have been deliberate, too. They were just treating other people’s pain as their own personal entertainment.

Zachary Hawthorne hadn’t gotten far before he returned. He saw Nina trembling from head to toe, like a dead tree in the wind, ready to fall at the slightest gust.

He immediately strode over, wrapped an arm around her waist to support her, and glared at Talia Talbot and Caleb Ford. His voice was grim as he asked, "Have you had enough?"

Tears streamed down Nina’s face as she shoved Zachary away with all her might. "I don’t want to see any of you! Can you just get out of my sight?! You follow me wherever I go! Do you hate me that much? If you hate me so much, why don’t you just kill me?!"

"Nina, what is this temper tantrum?" Zachary’s expression darkened.

The pain in Nina’s abdomen was so intense she couldn’t stop herself from squatting down. She clutched her stomach, feeling waves of a heavy, dragging ache... Her face was deathly pale.

Grandma Pemberton came in from outside, set down her backpack, and immediately rushed to Nina’s side. "What’s wrong?"

"It hurts..." Nina grasped her hand, her body trembling uncontrollably.

Grandma Pemberton helped her sit on a nearby bed, pressed an acupressure point on her body, and said with a grave expression, "I told you, you need to be careful..."

At this, Talia Talbot’s face went pale.

’She thought her shove had caused Nina to injure her spine—an injury that could lead to paralysis.’

"Who hit her?!" Zachary Hawthorne immediately glared at Talia Talbot and Caleb Ford.

She gasped for breath after speaking.

Her face was ashen, and sweat poured down her forehead. Her voice trembled as she said, "The truth is, I don’t want to see you at all... Do you think your presence makes me happy? The second you show up, my life is filled with trouble..."

"Don’t talk anymore. I’m going to get my needles." Grandma Pemberton turned to leave.

"We’ll call 911. We don’t need you interfering," Zachary Hawthorne said, not trusting her at all.

Grandma Pemberton looked at him calmly. "Young man, with some conditions, a delay of just a few minutes can lead to a lifetime of regret."

With that, she went to get her needle case.

Nina felt an uncomfortable dampness beneath her.

She grabbed the blanket Caleb Ford had been using and wrapped it tightly around herself.

Caleb Ford was stunned for a second, then shouted, "Hey, I was using that! What do you think you’re doing..."

Nina ignored him, clutching the blanket tightly around herself. ’She knew she couldn’t let Zachary find out she was bleeding. If he did, he’d discover her pregnancy, and the baby would be as good as dead.’

’I have to protect my baby...’

Off to the side, Luna Sterling watched her with a placid expression, her eyes dark and unreadable.

When Grandma Pemberton returned, Nina had wrapped herself up like a cocoon.

After inserting a few needles, Grandma Pemberton looked at Zachary Hawthorne, who stood nearby with a grim face and worried eyes. "Carry her into my room. Be careful."

Without a word, Zachary Hawthorne walked over to Nina and lifted her, blanket and all, into his arms.

Nina lay limp in his arms, looking so fragile she might shatter, her face as white as a sheet of paper.

Caleb Ford watched as she was carried away with the very blanket he’d been using, fuming with irritation.

Zachary Hawthorne carried her into Grandma Pemberton’s room. The moment he set her down, he heard the old woman say, "Let her rest. She’s emotionally volatile, and that’s why her condition is so severe. So, until she’s stable, don’t come and disturb her."

"What exactly is wrong with her?" Zachary Hawthorne asked.

"A sickness of the heart." Grandma Pemberton had no time for his questions; she still had to check on her husband.

The door was shut in Zachary Hawthorne’s face.

He stood at the door, thinking for a long time. Why had Nina’s condition worsened so suddenly? The sweat had been pouring off her like she’d been caught in a storm. She was clearly in agonizing pain.

Luna Sterling approached him quietly and said in a low voice, "She’ll be okay."

"Tell Caleb Ford and Talia Talbot to get lost," Zachary Hawthorne told her, his voice cold as ice.

Luna Sterling froze for a moment, but in the end, she said nothing and simply turned and walked away.

Zachary Hawthorne stood guard by the door.

Inside the room, Nina’s body finally calmed down. She lifted the blanket and saw a horrifyingly large, red stain.

’She had a feeling that if they came to torment her a few more times, she would lose her baby for good.’
