"Urgh, it hurts." Michael groaned in pain.

This caught their attention and the quest to get each other’s necks halted immediately.

They quickly turned around and found Michael clutching his belly with a face that was twisted in pain.

’If something happens to him, I won’t get my triple payment.’

"Oh no, Mister, are you alright?" Alyssa quickly rushed to him and Doctor Ro put away his scalpel. "Where does it hurt?"

"If you’re in pain, then let’s get you to your Alpha right away." He said. It would better be done with this earlier so he doesn’t have to take responsibility for anything.

"You’re the doctor, aren’t you supposed to treat him if he’s in pain?" Alyssa argued.

"As long as I get paid, why not?" He asked, spitting out the cigarette butt that was left in his mouth and then stepped on it. "But until we come to an agreement, I won’t make a move. It’ll be my loss later if you simply thank me for helping you and not actually give me my money."

"Tch, you’re so cheap!" Alyssa gnashed her teeth.

"Thank you." Doctor Ro said, tilting his head in appreciation of her compliment. Honestly, he couldn’t care less what they thought of him.

It’s not like he ever cared what anyone thought of him.

"Haah," Michael sighed, standing straight as he stared at the both of them. They were unbelievable.

"Mister Michael, are you alright now?" Alyssa asked, worriedly. "Do you feel strained? Do you want to sit for a while?"

Michael listened and then sighed once more, shaking his head.

He achieved his goal of stopping them from killing themselves but they only ended up arguing.

It seems they can’t be put in one place and coexist.

"I’m fine." Michael said. "Instead of wasting time here, I think we should get going."

"Yeah, listen to your master." Doctor Ro pointed out, but it only made Alyssa bare her fangs. "You’ll live longer if you do, little girl." He said, lighting up a new cigarette.

"What did you just call me?" Alyssa’s eyes blazed but Ro did not respond as he took in a puff of his cigarette and pulled it out of his mouth.

"What?" He asked as the smoke seeped out of his mouth like an engine. "Did I say something wrong?"

"I’ve had it. I will definitely--"

"Enough!" Michael yelled and Alyssa paused. "You’re letting him work you up, Alyssa. It’s not worth it so just ignore him. And you..." He turned to Ro. "...what’s your purpose?"

"What do you mean? I’m just waiting for my chance to escort you home so I can get triple the amount I was promised." He said and puffed his cigarette.

"Yeah, that’s certain but why are you picking a fight with Alyssa? Are you holding a grudge for the things she’s said to you all this while? Or are you simply hostile with her because she’s a werewolf?" Michael asked but did not get a reaction from Ro who simply smoked his cigarette. "If it’s none of that then why? It looks like you want to get your hand on her throat no matter what."

Doctor Ro flicked his cigarette to get rid of the ash and said,

"You’re mistaking something." He said and then glanced at Michael, putting the cigarette back in his mouth. "This is just how I am. She’s the one who’s easily taking offense to the things I say. She has no self-control. I wonder how she landed herself on such an important job to escort an Alpha’s female when she can’t even control her emotions. She’s useless if she gets mad with a little taunt. And she’s the type I extremely dislike because she defines a person by what she sees and feels before even getting to know them."

Those lazy pupils of his held a pang of disgust when talking about Alyssa and Michael sighed.

Sure enough, they were the very opposite and would never be able to get along.

They should just get over this and go their separate ways.

Surprisingly, Alyssa did not retort to the things he said. It was almost as if she admitted he was right and she had been immature all along, unfit to escort their Alpha’s female.

Michael watched her, her clenched fists, her firmly pursed lips, and the tears she was suppressing.

She seemed disappointed.

"Then, I just have one more question to ask." Michael said, turning to Doctor Ro. "Are you the one responsible for sending our car away?"

"Oh, that? Well, not me but the guys who were after you. They probably did something but I don’t know." He shrugged his shoulders. "I didn’t ask."

Of course, he didn’t. That had nothing to do with him.

Michael sighed.

If Noah found out about this, it would be bad. He would never stop worrying.

"Alyssa, I know you’re feeling down but can you check who called?" Michael asked.

"Oh, right." Alyssa said, releasing her clenched fists but her complexion didn’t look too good.

She took out her phone.

Doctor Ro had his eyes on her as he took his cigarette out of his mouth and flicked it again.

She wasn’t a suitable guard. Being easily swayed by her emotions could lead the person she was protecting to more harm than good.

She had to think first before acting. Think carefully so she doesn’t end up in a trap.

What if he had been tasked to provoke her so she would go after him and then the others approached Michael from behind?

She would’ve failed miserably.

"Hah," he sighed and threw the cigarette butt down, stepping on it. "What do I care?"

"It was a call from my boss." Alyssa said, raising her head.

That means, during the time they were in trouble, he called. But there was no answer, so he might’ve assumed she was tackling an issue and couldn’t call back, so he did not call a second time.

"You should probably call him and let him know we’re alright." Michael said and Alyssa nodded, dialing the number.

The phone rang twice before Sebastian picked up.

"Is there a problem?" Sebastian asked right away, glancing at Noah who just wouldn’t stop patting his feet on the floor and making the air around the house heavy. "Why didn’t you pick up earlier?"

"That’s because there was a situation." She explained, glancing up at Doctor Ro. "But it’s fine now. We’ll start heading home now."

"Is he okay?" Sebastian asked. "Hope he’s not hurt anywhere."

"No, he’s fine."

Sebastian took the liberty of asking so that he would confirm with them and make Noah stop needlessly worrying.

But he would still continue to worry till he set his eyes on Michael again.

"That’s good. Hurry up and get back." Sebastian said.

Alyssa was going to say something else, like how Doctor Ro was with them now, but she felt she wouldn’t be able to explain properly from the phone, so she decided to lead him there.

Even if Ro had a hidden motive as he followed them, he would never be able to overpower Sebastian and their Alpha so it was fine.

So long as no one followed them there, it was fine.

"Then, Mister Michael, shall we get going?" She asked.

"You know, you’ve been calling me ’Michael’ since earlier and Doctor Ro is still here." Michael said and Alyssa froze.

Ah, she messed up. She turned her head towards Ro, who was smoking, and he honestly didn’t seem to care.

Right, he was that type.

So long he got his money, he didn’t mind anything else.

"I’ll make up for my mistake." Alyssa said, bowing her head.

"Then how about this?" Michael suggested and then whispered in her ear.

As soon as she heard what he said, she pursed her lips, contemplative as she glanced toward Doctor Ro and away from him.

"I... I’ll try." She said, looking quite uncomfortable with the idea but Michael thought it was a good idea.

This way, there would be no more arguments going forward.

They walked for a while and each time, Alyssa asked,

"Are you sure we shouldn’t order a ride?"

And then Michael would respond.

"No, it’s fine. I need the exercise anyway since I’m always cooped up at home."

"But it’s cold and..."

"Really, I’m fine." Michael smiled in reassurance but Alyssa was still worried.

"Why does it seem like you’re the tired one? You’re being too loud and noisy, repeating one question over and over." Doctor Ro said with an irritated tone but Alyssa ignored him.

As if Michael knew something like this would happen, he asked Alyssa to promise him not to respond to any of the doctor’s words, especially the ones that sounded like a provocation.

If she did not respond then it would not escalate because the doctor would not say more just to get her to speak. He simply said whatever was in his head and that was it. He had no filters.

If a fight broke out, then it was the other person who didn’t endure his first words because he would never say a second if there was no response.

"You’re doing great." Michael whispered to Alyssa and she felt glad. She was putting her all into it.
