"I am not scared." Han Ruochen refused to admit that she was scared, even though her face had obviously turned quite pale.

"Of course you aren’t," Zhai Muchen agreed with her, but his tone was more like he was coaxing a child.

Hearing his cajoling tone, Han Ruochen was, of course, upset, but she did not say anything. Anyway, even if the man insisted that she was scared, she would keep insisting that she was not. As long as she did not admit it, it would be fine. Han Ruochen pursed her lips and followed Zhai Muchen to the carriage, where her father was waiting for her and Han Beijiang.

However, when she arrived at her seat, she realised that Zhai Muchen had already made a move. The old woman had already been caught, and the child in her arms was no longer secured in the arms of a female army officer. When the female officer saw Han Ruochen and Zhai Muchen return, she saluted Zhai Muchen with one of her hands and stated in a calm voice, "Commander Zhai, this boy is really Jiang Chen."

"What, Jiang Chen? He is my grandson Xiao Bo. What are you doing?" the old woman knew that she had been caught, but she did not want to give up struggling. She pretended to be heartbroken and cried softly. "Who are you? And why are you snatching my grandson from me?" One had to hand it to the old woman; even though she was in her sixties or seventies, she was really good at acting.

Even though the people who were holding her down were people from the army, someone in the crowd still felt sorry for the old woman and said in a calm and collected voice. "What is going on? Is there some kind of misunderstanding? How could this woman kidnap a child? Just look at how thin and frail she looks."

"That’s right. There must be some kind of misunderstanding. This woman is so old...she seems incapable of even holding a child properly. How can she kidnap someone?"

"Officers, are you sure that you caught the right person? What if the information that you received was not right?" said another woman with a pitying expression as she looked at the old woman, who seemed both helpless and indignant.

Looking at the old woman’s actions and expressions, more and more voices of dissatisfaction rose.

Han Ruochen frowned when she saw that the people in the crowd were supporting the old woman.

"You—"

She wanted to disclose the information and the actions of the old woman, but before she could say anything, Zhai Muchen caught her wrist and pulled her back. She raised her head and looked at the man, who shook his head at her. His actions were so small that no one except Han Ruochen caught them. Seeing that the man had something planned already, she pursed her lips and did not say anything.

Pursing her lips, she calmly turned her head to one side. Since the man had a plan, she was not going to intervene. Let him deal with this matter on his own.

When the officers heard the indignant tone of the people around them, they were speechless. Was it possible for the people around them to be blind? Because if that was not the case, then how come they were not able to understand something so simple?

"Commander Zhai, this—" one of the officers could not help but turn his head to look at Zhai Muchen. It was one thing that these people were stopping them, but it was another thing that Zhai Muchen was staying quiet despite knowing that the boy was his cousin. What was he doing? Was he waiting for some sort of miracle to happen?

Zhai Muchen could almost read what was going on in the mind of his men; his lips twitched, but he did not say anything. He simply turned to look at the old woman and asked in a low voice, "You mean to say that this boy is your grandson?"

"If not?" The old woman knew that there was no way left for her; if she did not fight back, then she would be shot to death. Anyway, she did not believe that there was anyone who could prove it otherwise. "This is my grandson. Of course, he is."

Zhai Muchen was not angry when he heard her claims. He smiled and asked, "And what do your son and daughter-in-law do?"

"They are workers at a steel factory."

When Zhai Muchen heard the woman still insisting that the boy was her grandson, he took out a photograph in which Madam Jiang was holding Jiang Chen and asked, "Then who is this lady?"

As soon as the photograph appeared, the people in the crowd turned silent. They all leaned in to take another closer look at the woman in the photo. Of course, they recognised the boy at one glance, as they could see him right in front of them, but when they saw the woman holding him, they understood at once that she was the boy’s mother, as for the old woman—

The mother of the boy was obviously very rich!

How could she be the daughter-in-law of the woman in front of them?

If the son of this old woman were so rich, why would she still be wearing the old clothes with patches?

The old woman did not expect that the man in front of her was actually related to the boy she had kidnapped and that he even knew him. Her eyes widened in fear, and she tried to shake off the hands that were restraining her. But she was an old woman in the end; even if she used all of her strength, she could never fight back against a man from the army.

When the old woman saw that she could not free herself, she was filled with regret. If she knew that she would end up getting ruined, she would have never tried to harm Han Ruochen or, much less, target her.
