Within a few minutes, Meng Yunhan’s face turned pale as she could not withstand the chill anymore. Her teeth started to chatter as she stared at the door that had been shut tightly. In the end, she had no other choice but to go to her room and pick up a blanket to wrap around herself. She then came out of the room and headed back to Han Jianyou’s room, where she started to knock on the door again. She was determined to squat outside as long as she could get the money from Han Yichen!

Inside the room, Han Jianyou felt like the sky was falling. He looked at his father, who was calmly sleeping and scrunched up his eyes. It was really too much. The parents were fighting, and yet the one who was suffering was he! Their child. How could they do this to him?

Han Jianyou couldn’t take sides with either his father or mother, so he had no choice but to cover his ears with his pillow and sleep. He was not going to get involved in this mess, no matter what happened in the morning. At least let him sleep in peace.

The next morning, when Han Yichen woke up and opened the door, he was prepared to wash up and have breakfast before going to the pig farm. It was then that he discovered Meng Yunhan, who was sitting next to the door with a blanket wrapped around her. It seemed like she had slept here all night.

Thus, when he opened the door, the woman slid down off the door and fell right into the room.

Seeing this, Han Jianyou was speechless, and Han Yichen was even more speechless.

"Dad, I am going back to the dormitory," said Han Jianyou. He had a feeling that his mother was going to find trouble for him if he stayed at home. Even though there were three more days of holiday left for him, he did not want to stay at home.

When Han Yichen heard his response, his eyes darkened, but he did not stop Han Jianyou from going back to the dormitory. He knew the virtues of his wife very well. If Han Jianyou stayed in the house, she would definitely make a fuss and blame him for not opening the door. So, even though it was embarrassing, he still nodded and let Han Jianyou leave.

He then turned to look at Meng Yunhan with a complicated look in his eyes. The two of them had been married for more than twenty years; of course, he felt sorry for her when he saw her sleeping in such a manner, but when he thought about how Meng Yunhan was allowing Han Ziyan to run wild and even causing trouble for their family by squandering the entire savings that they had accumulated. He decided to be hard-hearted and not interfere in this matter.

They were not a prosperous family, nor did they have generational wealth. All the savings were gone, and he was trying to reduce all sorts of expenses to make sure that they would be able to have even a little bit of savings if things went wrong. And yet Meng Yunhan was spending her money as if they had a bottomless well filled with money in their house!

Was it easy for him to live like this? Of course not! In the past, he could at least take a few days off, but now he had to stay at the pig farm almost every day. He went to the farm earlier than most of the villagers and returned late at night. He was trying his best to come up with a plan that would help him sustain this family without relying on his children, and yet Meng Yunhan could not seem to understand his little intentions.

Han Yichen knew that he could not allow such a thing to happen. He did not bother with Meng Yunhan, nor did he wake her up. As per his usual routine, he washed up and had his breakfast.

"Dad?"

Han Ruochen looked at her mother, who was sleeping on the floor and turned to look at her father, who was calmly eating the shrimp rice porridge that he had cooked for himself and frowned hard. Did her mother really spend the entire night on the floor? Her mother really loved Han Ziyan! Never before had Meng Yunhan suffered like this, but she was willing to do it for Han Ziyan.

"Ignore her," said Han Yichen. He indeed felt sorry for Meng Yunhan, but he was not going to let her bad habits affect them. He said to Han Ruochen, "I have already booked the tickets for Xuehan’s village; you go and pack up your things, and we will leave for the station after you have finished your breakfast." As for Han Ziyan and Meng Yunhan, one liked to sleep in late, while the other had stayed awake for the majority of the night. There was no way either of them was going to wake up soon.

Han Ruochen nodded, but then her attention turned to Han Jianyou, whose bag was packed, and he seemed to be in a hurry to go somewhere. She arched a brow and asked, "Where do you think you are going? I thought your school had three days’ leave because of the upcoming sports festival."

Han Jianyou smiled wryly when he heard his sister’s question. It was not that he did not want to stay at home; it was just that he could not stay. Not when his mother was out for blood—no money like that. He would rather go back to the academy and start studying rather than stay at home.

Han Ruochen also understood his predicament, so she did not tease him anymore. Instead, she helped Han Beijiang in the seat and then served him some rice porridge and made sure to mash the shrimps properly, as he did not like intact ones. She then handed him a glass of chilled milk with milk powder that he liked before asking, "Do you want some peaches?"
