After ensuring the tribeswomen had gotten acquainted with Freki, Adrian left to check the pit trap along with Huginn. While they made their way over to the pit, Adrian was lost in his thoughts.
"Earlier, anything I did led to an increase in tribe favorability," he mumbled to himself. "However, even after I tamed Freki for the tribe, it didn’t increase by a single point."
Adrian knew it wasn’t maxed out, as he could see the limit of each level. Right now, he had over twenty points left to reach the next level.
At the rate it was increasing, Adrian was confident it wouldn’t take him more than two days to increase it again. When that happened, he was planning to ’ask’ for another wife.
"Amika is beautiful... so much so that I’m worried my blessing would break her. If someone could share the burden with her, then even I would be at ease."
[Woah, roadside Romeo. The girls would definitely fall for it.]
I know, right—!
[Shut it, you moron! Just lost your virginity and already dreams of making a harem. Just focus on doing what you have been doing, and everything would work out on its own.]
"...roger. By the way, do you know why my favorability stopped increasing?"
[Isn’t it obvious?]
"Is it?"
[Think about it for a moment, boy. You have already shocked them so much that nothing you do surprises them anymore. You could say they have grown accustomed to your miraculous antics.]
"I think I get it," Adrian said, scratching his chin. "It’s like a top scorer getting another top score. People would be happy about it, but they won’t be too enthusiastic, as they had come to expect it."
[Oi, four-eyes, it seems our boy isn’t as brainless as you thought!]
...you know I can hear it, right?
"Caw-Caw!"
Huginn’s loud cawing snapped Adrian back to reality. He looked up and saw the raven hovering over the pit’s location. It must have seen something in the trap.
Forgetting about the Playboy ancestor’s roasting, he hurried to the pit, only to see a disgusting sight.
"What the hell is this!?"
The pit had worked as it was supposed to, but it seemed someone or something else had gotten there first.
The pit trap was filled with a foul-smelling, shiny, gelatinous substance. Pieces of animal remains were scattered everywhere, half-eaten and floating in the goo.
As he saw the flesh of unknown animals dissolve in the goo, his face twisted with anger.
"These things ruined my trap!" he yelled, taking out his spear from the inventory.
Without a second thought, he started stabbing the nearest slime with his spear.
He stabbed them repeatedly, but the spear just sank into the jelly-like body and came out without doing any damage. The goo just wiggled around the spear and continued feasting.
How was he sure there wasn’t any damage? Because he couldn’t see any prompts telling him he dealt any damage.
"Die already!" Adrian shouted, stabbing harder.
This time it felt like the spear hit something, and the next moment one of the things exploded, splattering its sticky goo everywhere.
[Kill confirmed!]
[Killed a level 1 Common Slime.]
[Exp +11]
[Ancestor’s 10x blessing in effect. Gained Exp +110.]
[Spear Mastery +1]
"Wait... actual monsters exist in this world too?"
Since he had only seen dangerous beasts, Adrian assumed only those beasts existed on the Savage Earth. But if there were actual monsters there too, then things just got even more dangerous.
"But how did I kill it?" he murmured, leaning in.
After noticing them for a few minutes, he found something. Each slime had a small, glowing crystal floating inside its body. The spear must have hit that part for it to explode.
On a hunch, Adrian aimed carefully and stabbed one of the crystals with his spear, and sure enough, the slime exploded!
[Kill confirmed!]
[Killed a level 1 Common Slime.]
[Exp +11]
[Ancestor’s 10x blessing in effect. Gained Exp +110.]
[Spear Mastery +1]
Adrian’s eyes widened in surprise, and he counted the crystals in the pit. Soon, a big smile appeared on his face.
"Thirty-seven more... this is perfect!"
Adrian wasn’t angry at the slimes anymore. Instead, he felt ecstatic. If he killed all of them, he would gain a lot of experience and improve his spear mastery at the same time.
A plan formed in his head. Finally, there was a use for those beast remains he had in his inventory.
"If I start dumping the beast remains here every day, the slimes will keep coming. Once they get inside the trap, they won’t be able to escape, and I can level up fast and master the spear in no time!"
Essentially, he didn’t care about the primary use of the trap. From that moment onwards, it was a free exp farm for him!
With that thought, Adrian grabbed his spear and got to work. One by one, he hunted down all thirty-seven slimes.
Each time he struck their crystal core, they exploded with a satisfying pop. It almost felt as satisfying as popping up bubbles of a bubble wrap.
By the time he was finished, he was covered in sweat, but he felt great after seeing the notifications flashing before him.
[Spear mastery: 47/100]
[You have leveled up!]
[Current level: 9]
[Current Exp: 149/1,800]
[Gained 4 stat point(s)]
[Ancestor’s 10x blessing in effect. Gained 40 stat points.]
[Level up reward: 1x Uncommon farmland card has been added to your inventory.]
[Level up reward: 1x Pen expansion card has been added to your inventory.]
[Level up reward: 1x Rock Salt Quarry card has been added to your inventory.]
[Level up reward: 1x Recruitment card has been added to your inventory.]
[All wounds have healed. All status effects have been lifted.]
Even after killing the alpha wolf, his level had only gone from three to five. However, after killing the much weaker slimes, he leveled up four times!
Not only that, he had 66 stat points to use in emergencies and also four more cards, and from the looks of it, all of them were equally important!
"As I thought... this is the most rewarding way to level up!"
