Awooo!
Before anyone had taken a step, a howl echoed through the surrounding forest. One didn’t have to be a native or a survival expert to know what that howl meant.
"Wolf!" Adrian exclaimed. "Wait, it can’t be just one wolf either."
Wolves were social animals that moved in packs. As for their reason to come there... it was predictable. It was the chicken blood. Even though they had done their best to get rid of it, it wasn’t enough.
Adrian expected the favorability to go down again since he was the one behind the blood incident, but surprisingly, it didn’t. Instead, the women grabbed whatever they could to arm themselves.
Sticks, stones, and whatnot. Even the injured Mika stood up, holding a sharpened stick that she used as a crutch to walk around.
This is not good.
If there were only one wolf, then maybe the sticks and stones would work. But the chances of it were exceptionally low.
Meanwhile, Tribe Mother was busy throwing commands at everyone. She wanted them to stay in a line and then surround the wolf. While the wolf would attack one of them, the rest would try to beat it to death before the wolf killed someone.
This won’t do! Have you gone mad?
If the wolves in their world were anything like the chickens, they would easily kill them before they harmed it with sticks. Adrian knew he couldn’t depend on them for protection.
Adrian was now regretting the choice of merging the crude bone knives into the [Honed Bone Dagger]. If he hadn’t, then at least everyone would be armed with a knife, not sticks and stones.
"Forget it," he yelled, pointing at the longhouse. "Amiya, take Mika inside."
The women of the tribe all looked at him as if he had lost his mind. It was expected. Even though she was injured, she was the only one with enough fighting experience to keep the wolf busy while they beat it to death.
Yet, while they were hesitating, Amiya did as Adrian asked. She had seen him fight before and knew he was strong. Besides, he was already a respected member of the tribe, and his words held weight. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Watching Amiya leave with a struggling Mika, Rixxa immediately followed her. After a while, Amiya returned and explained it to Adrian.
As their only diviner, Rixxa’s safety was paramount. Hence, she could look after Mika.
Finally, the Tribe Mother, Amika, and Amiya were left outside with him. Tribe Mother looked in the direction the howl had come from and then back at Adrian.
"Are you confident... Male?" she asked. "You do not need to—"
As much as Adrian appreciated her concern, he didn’t have time to talk.
"If it makes you uncomfortable, then you can go inside and wait for the good news, too," he said before calling for Raven. "There is a predator somewhere close. Find it!"
Raven cooed once and took flight. However, it couldn’t find a thing. While ravens were exceptionally intelligent, they had equally poor eyesight. The bird kept circling above, but couldn’t spot any wolf or wolves around.
Meanwhile, Sera was about to slip into the house as well when she heard the familiar ding of a message.
"My class?" she read the message out loud. "I... I’m a gatherer."
"...bullshit luck," Adrian muttered under his breath.
Still, he sent her another message. She had a dagger, albeit it was just a basic weapon, so she could fight. Besides, her master was fighting, so what made her think she could hide?
Just then, the enemy made its appearance. Glowing yellow eyes peeked through the clearing, watching the humans in confusion. It had smelled a lot of blood and came rushing to enjoy a feast, only to see humans.
Adrian went into action as soon as he saw the beast.
[Use Attachment: Crystallized Venom on Honed Bone Dagger?]
[Yes/No]
Adrian didn’t think twice and pressed yes. At the same time, he took out the [Worn Hunting Knife] as well. Since both were one-handed daggers, he could use them together.
[You have unlocked an Easter Egg!]
[Dual Weiding: You will inflict 10% additional damage while using two weapons of the same type!]
"Sure, keep them coming. The more, the better."
If possible, he wanted to discover more of these easter eggs. Unfortunately, there was no time.
[Fearless effect is active.]
[Dominance effect is active. Enemy stats will reduce by 10%, Ally stats buffed by 10%.]
[Apex Predator is active. All stats boost by 400% when facing a Level 7 Direwolf.]
As the notification filled his vision, Adrian shot past the tribeswomen, charging straight at the wolf. However, his feet stalled when he got closer.
Even though the wolf was level 7, it looked quite frail and old. He had seen enough nature documentaries to know what was going on.
The wolves always care for their elderly by bringing them food and rarely let them hunt. Yet, this old wolf was alone. Which meant the pack must have gotten into trouble and abandoned it.
"No wonder you came rushing here," Adrian mumbled, sizing up the wolf.
The old him would have probably given it some chicken and tried to tame it. But the current him just saw their level difference and smirked while once again putting all his stats into strength.
[Strength: 20 → 31]
Why waste a walking exp pack?
With that, he rushed at the wolf with his daggers. The wolf got provoked and also charged at him. The wolf jumped, intending to bite Adrian’s neck.
Amiya saw it and wanted to help, but Tribe Mother stopped her. Seeing as it was only one old wolf, she thought to let it teach the make a lesson. After all, it wouldn’t be so bad if his arrogance got turned down a notch.
However, the next second, all of their mouths fell open in disbelief.
Adrian had performed a backflip just in time to dodge the wolf. At the same time, his feet came up in a wide arc, kicking the wolf right in the face.
The wolf yelped in pain as it fell to the ground.
[Critical Hit! Damage dealt increased by 10%]
[
[Direwolf will remain disoriented for 3 seconds.]
[You dealt 136 HP damage to the lvl 7 direwolf.]
[Direwolf HP: 662/798]
Even as the wolf got back to its feet, it kept shaking its head.
Despite being surprised at the old wolf’s enormous HP, Adrian didn’t waste time and wrapped an arm around its neck and stabbed it with the tier two dagger for a better grip before plunging the [Honed Bone Dagger] into its neck repeatedly.
[Critical Hit! Damage dealt increased by 10%]
[You dealt 194 HP damage to the lvl 7 direwolf.]
[Direwolf HP: 468/798]
[
[Direwolf will lose 4 HP/sec for 8 seconds.]
[
[Direwolf will lose 10 HP/sec for 16 seconds.]
[
[Direwolf will be slowed down for 6 seconds.]
The effects kept stacking because of the honed dagger’s repeated critical strikes. The wolf didn’t even get the time to shake Adrian off before falling limp to the ground.
[Kill confirmed!]
[Killed a level 7 Direwolf.]
[Exp +160]
[Ancestor’s 10x blessing in effect. Gained Exp+1,600.]
[You have leveled up!]
[Current level: 5]
[Current Exp: 630/1,000]
[Gained 2 stat point(s)]
[Ancestor’s 10x blessing in effect. Gained 20 stat points.]
[Level up reward: 1x random uncommon equipment card has been added to your inventory.]
[Level up reward: 1x random uncommon building card has been added to your inventory.]
[All wounds have healed. All status effects have been lifted.]
While Adrian was going through the notifications, he saw something glow next to direwolf’s corpse.
"Another card? Wait, monsters drop loot like this?" He mumbled and picked up the card. "Wait, another pet recruitment card so soon?"
