"Why does the building look like a pig sty? There was dust everywhere, Finnegan. Is this how you run the corporation?"

I blinked rapidly,trying to process what in the matrix was going on. There was no hello, good morning or even a nod in greeting. I glanced at him but his face remained cold and passive. And that was an exaggeration, I could hardly notice the dust she was talking about.

"I was not aware you were coming, Mother,"

"So you would have cleaned the company ahead?" She scoffed, storming towards his desk and curled her lips in disgust at the scattered papers on them from when he had bent me over the desk.

Okay, maybe I was getting something wrong here. I waited for my ruthless boss to say something snarky about her minding her business or something along that line but all he did was remain quiet.

If anything from the trends I had studied, he had brought this company to unreachable height. How was it that the whole world knew this but his mother did not?

"I also need to discuss the Milan branch before the end of the week so clear your Thursday." She ordered.

"I have a meeting with Fontaine on Thursday, Mother,"

His jaw tightened. "I’ll see what I can do-"

"Finnegan." She snapped.

Oh, I saw it now. Holy shit, the person behind his perfectionist complex was his mother?

She must have set so many impossible standards and turned him into this relentless brute who demanded perfection. He had just fired poor Mr Johnson over cleaning and it was the very first thing his mother had lashed at him about.

My gaze moved back to my boss. He looked so still, you would think he was a sculpted statue. She had built that. She had built this nerve wracking, arrogant, perfectionist, for whom nothing could ever please.

"And will you tell the girl to leave already or shall I?" His mother’s voice snapped me back to reality, "I don’t see why she’s hovering above us like some sort of ghost,"

I glanced around the room to see if there was another girl she was referring to because it sure as hell could not be me. Unfortunately for her, it was me and luckily for me, I had a PHD in dealing with snobbish bitches.

"My name is Abigail," I bit out in a sugary voice. "I am neither a girl nor a ghost but I understand how you could have confused me for one Mrs Wolfe. Perhaps I could schedule you a meeting with the ophthalmologist?"

Her brows shot up in surprise, her eyes widening a fraction before narrowing into a squint.

Through my side view, I noticed Finnegan’s jaw clenched. "You may leave, Miss Kellerman,"

"If you need anything, I’ll be at my desk, Boss," I tipped my head slightly at the green-eyed Witch narrowing her gaze at me and turned to leave.

"Clear my Thursday as well," He called behind me and I gritted my teeth in anger.

I understood respecting the parents and all. I loved my Meemaw and Gramps and they loved me too. I knew what love was and it was definitely not what Mrs Wolfe had for her son. Why? What happened between them?

I threw one last look over my shoulder once I reached the door, hoping to catch those dark green eyes. He didn’t glance my way and instead led his mother to sit. I pushed through the door, placed a hand over my chest then gave a silent scream of excitement.
