"Got you!"

I nearly screamed as a hand clamped down on my shoulder. I spun around, ready to throw a punch, only to find Annette glaring daggers at me in the front of our apartment building.

"Annie, what the hell!" I clutched my chest. "I almost knocked you out!"

"You deserve to be knocked out, you reckless, stubborn-ass woman!" she muttered furiously, grabbing my arm and hauling me inside .

"You went alone? After Cole’s death, after the truck, after I specifically told you not to pull this lone-wolf bullshit? I tracked your phone, Abigail!"

" I didn’t want you getting hurt because of me," I murmured as we passed Dennis at the entrance. Annette pinched my arm where she was gripping it, sharp enough to make me wince.

"Well you’re about to get hurt because of me!" She hissed, dragging me down the hall to our apartment. The second the door was locked behind us, the real scolding started.

I sat on the couch, spreading out the papers I had gotten from the building while Anette paced the room ranting and berating me for going off all on my own.

"...What if I hadn’t checked the phone tracker? What if something had happened—where on earth did you get all these?"

She stopped pacing around, her eyes narrowing in a sharp glare at the several papers on the table.

"The building isn’t run down. That fire had to be some sort of scam. And I found these."

She picked up the email between my father and his coworker.

"Owen Smith," she muttered. "So he got threatened the day before he died? Okay, This is huge, Abby. This is progress. This means we have evidence that there was a possible vendetta to this."

"We need to find him," I sighed. "He might be the only one who knows what my parents saw."

"I’ll get try to see what I can get on him," Annette pointed a finger at me. "You, however, are going to lay low for a couple of days. No more suicide missions. Promise me."

"I promise," I grumbled under my breath, slumping against the couch in relief.

She plopped next to me on the sofa and pulled me into a tight hug anyway. "We’re in this together. If you even think about sneaking out and playing Rambo on your own again, I will cuff you to the couch for days."

Annette and I stayed up late going over the documents. By the time she finally retreated to her room, we were both exhausted out of our minds.

I hid the files safely and crashed into bed, my mind still spinning with the thirty-day deadline looming over my head.

How on earth could we find evidence on the murderer in thirty days?

The following Friday, I strutted into Wolfe Corporation at eight thirty on a call to sort out the meetings Finn was supposed to be be having today.

Working with my boyfriend the past few days had been wonderful but the giddiest part was the way we stole kisses like high schoolers. It was addicting and I couldn’t get enough.

The elevator opened up to an unexpected surprise. A thick, rich, velvety scent of flowers filled the air.

"Oh my god!" I gasped, my heels clicking rapidly against the carpet as I ran to my desk.

On my desk sat a huge bouquet of deep burgundy roses, black lilies, and white orchids.

They were arranged so perfectly they looked like they belonged in a luxury gallery, I almost didn’t want to touch it. I could have sworn I saw that arrangement in one of the model pictures on Vogue!

Beside the flowers was a sleek black box with a silver ribbon.

I glanced around quickly before untying it. Inside it, nestled on a red satin cloth were the most stunning pair of diamond earrings I had ever seen. They were large, flawless teardrop diamonds surrounded by smaller stones that caught the light like fire.

"This better not be a dream!" I squealed, holding up the earrings to my ears. My heart slammed against my chest rapidly. Did he do this?

There was a thick cream-colored card stuck between the flowers with letters on them.

Weekend getaway to Greece. My jet leaves tonight at 6PM. What do you say, baby?

I squealed like a guinea pig, jumping on my heels. A deep chuckle filled the air and my head whipped up to see Finnegan leaning against the door frame to his office.

His arms were crossed across his broad chest while those dark emerald eyes raked over me.

"Are you picturing me wearing nothing but these earrings, Mr Wolfe?"

His eyes widened a fraction and a giggle slipped from my lips as I sashayed my hips and closed the gap between us.

"Do you like them?" He rasped, cupping my face when I moved closer enough to be buried in that enticing scent of him.

"Are you kidding me? You got me diamonds!" I chuckled, throwing my arms around his neck.

"You can take me anywhere, papi. Hell the moon if you want to. Have your wicked way with me, my Lord. Bribe accepted.

Heat flickered in Finnegan’s eyes and a corner of his lips twitched in a lopsided grin. He leaned forward, brushing his lips over my forehead then down to my ear.

"I don’t bribe," he rasped, flicking his tongue over my ear lobe.

"I take what’s mine, and right now, what’s mine looks like she needs to be taken far away from this city... and fucked until I’m the only thought in that pretty head."

Heat rushed through me. I leaned forward slightly, letting him get a good view of my tits down my blouse.

"These diamonds are gorgeous," I purred, "but if you think an expensive jewelry and a private jet are enough to make me behave all weekend... you clearly don’t know me very well yet."

His eyes went molten hot, flashing with specks of gold.

"Oh, I know you, baby," he murmured, "I know exactly how to handle you."

"Wanna bet?" My fingers trailed down his chest to cup him through his pants. "We’ll see who loses control first."

His jaw flexed and for a second I thought he might drag me into his office and fuck the living daylights out of me.

"It’s on," He brushed a sweet kiss over my lips, before suddenly grabbing my hair and slipping his tongue past my lips.
