Finnegan’s coffee? Check.

His itinerary had already been printed and was placed on top of the morning reports, too.

Anger simmered in my veins because this was the first time I would be seeing him in a week.

Check a fucking million times.

I mean, sure, he had sent me a whole bunch of texts, but none of them had told me where he was or answered the question he had so guiltily avoided the last time he fucked and dumped me off like some cheap slut.

The elevator pinged, and the sound of the doors sliding open had my entire body stiffening and shaking with rage.

No, I would not lose my mind over a man. I was a calm, level-headed person.

I rose from my desk, watching him step off the elevator with Jason. Both of them were in the middle of a conversation. His eyes swept up, and then they fell on me.

My heart leapt into my throat at the sight of him.

Traitor. Who cared if he looked good? Who cared if his dark hair was slicked back and his green eyes softened with relief as they travelled over me?

I didn’t care. I lifted my chin up in the air and bit out in the iciest tone I had ever spoken. "Good morning, Mr. Wolfe."

His eyes widened a fraction at my words. Before he could say anything, though, Jason bumbled forward, his cheeks stained pink as he peeked at my emerald green dress, desperately trying not to glance down at the swell of my tits.

"You look good...I mean, good morning, that’s a really...uh... good morning."

If I weren’t so pissed, I would have laughed. Then I saw a muscle in Finnegan’s jaw tick, and that made me beam back at Jason.

"Thanks, Jason, do you like the dress?"

"Yes," He rushed out before clearing his throat. "Sorry, I’m not a creep, I swear-"

"Jason," Finn growled, his deep voice tinged wth irritation. "You can go back to your office and mail me the rest."

"Yes, boss." Jason’s shoulders sagged immediately, and he stepped back on the elevator.

When the doors closed, Finn rapidly closed the gap between us, stopping so close that I could smell his scent.

My body tingled from the heat radiating off him, and I hated that I had missed that smell.

"Hey," His voice dropped to a soft husky timbre that had little zaps and shivers running down my spine.

"Your itinerary is on your desk." I kept my voice crisp, stepping away from him. "Coffee too. I’m headed down to the conference room to set up for the ten o’clock meeting."

"Abigail," He rasped, reaching for me. I side-stepped him immediately.

"If you need anything before the meeting, you can call down."

"Can we talk?" He moved, blocking my path, green eyes flickering with guilt as they gazed down at me.

"Sure," I spat. "Your words better be that you’re going to explain who Angel is and why you dropped me at my apartment like I was something you ordered and didn’t want anymore after the delivery arrived!"

He swallowed, glancing away from me, and that was fucking enough.

"That’s what I thought," I grumbled, walking past him to the elevator. "Enjoy a dose of your own avoidance syrup, Mr. Wolfe. Feel how it tastes, I hear it’s bitter going down."

The conference room setup took about forty minutes. I did every single thing on my checklist, trying not to think about how he had hesitated.

He fucking hesitated.

God in heaven, who was this Angel woman? Why did it irk me so much? I had obsessed over it all week; I didn’t need this right now.

No man should have this much power over me. Not even gorgeous as hell Finnegan Wolfe.

God, I had missed him. It was like he had set up real estate in my head, my thoughts consumed by him.

Was he alright? Why did he take a whole week off? Was it because of his mother? I had obsessed like a freaking fool.

I had my hands full already. I had my parents’ case to worry about, a career to protect, and yet he had still managed to find ways to weave his way into my thoughts. It drove me insane and furious.

I managed to avoid him completely until lunch. It was mostly possible because he had to catch up on so many meetings anyway.

Marcus had gotten to our lunch spot first and had wolfed down four bread rolls by the time Kate, Ted, and I arrived.

"You started without us," Kate said, dropping into her seat next to him.

"I was hungry." He gestured at the empty bread basket with a shrug. "I ordered more. You’re welcome."

"You ordered more for yourself, and we’re welcome?" Ted dropped his jacket on the back of his chair. "That’s not how that phrase works, Mark."

"It’s how I use it." Marcus reached for the menu, wiggling his brows at me. "How’s my favorite co-worker doing?

"Hungry, can we please order?" I mumbled, earning a weird look from all three of them. "What?"

"Nothing," Ted grumbled, while Marcus waved the bread basket in my face.

"Nothing a good meal won’t fix,"

I was halfway through devouring a plate of pasta when my phone rang wth a call from an unknown number.

I excused myself to pick up the call. "Hello?"

There was silence on the other end. The breathing of whoever called filtered in from the other end.

"Hello?" I called again, my voice growing with irritation. "I can hear you breathing, if this is some kind of prank-"

The line went dead, and I stared at the phone, miffed. What the fuck? Who on earth was this? Dread clawed at my insides. Was it the man who had gone to meet my grandparents?

I had to send the number to Annette.

The phone rang again, and I picked it up without checking the screen, the irritation from the last call still fresh in my head.

"Look, I don’t know what your problem is, but calling twice and saying nothing is-"

"The engineering report for the next engine we’re developing," Finnegan’s gruff baritone had me biting back a curse. "I can’t find it, Abigail,"

"I placed it on your desk."

"Where?" He asked, "Come back to the office and show me."

He couldn’t be serious right now. "What? It’s on your desk, Mr Wolfe-"

"I’m waiting," The jerk declared and ended the phone call.
