The car rolled to a stop in the huge parking lot of the suburban house. I stepped out, the cool evening air brushing against my skin, and my fingers tightened around the shopping bag in my hand.

There was the faint scent of chlorine in the air as I strode to the security house where the guards were stationed.

"Welcome home, Boss," Arnold grunted, dipping his head in a slight bow.

I nodded curtly, scanning the area out of habit. "What happened at Owen Smith’s house? I want every detail."

He scratched the back of his neck. "Uh, we had parked the car a block away because Miss Kellerman didn’t want to spook the man. Barely twenty minutes later, we received a call from Miss Kellerman."

"They were at Owen Smith’s residence, we heard noises of shouting and fighting, so we moved in immediately to contain the situation, but the intruders got away and so did Owen Smith."

I exhaled slowly, the tight knot in my chest loosening just a bit. It wasn’t that I doubted Abigail, I just needed a full picture of what happened and how best to make sure she was safe all the fucking time.

"Next time, do not stay a block away. You stay where she is, Arnold. Always. Understood?"

"Yes, sir."

I dismissed him with a nod, left the security house, and headed to the main building, striding inside. The shopping bag from the jewelry store swung lightly in my hand.

The house was quiet, the living room empty. I paused, listening for anyone at home, when soft laughter and splashing drifted from the pool area.

I followed the sound, stepping out onto the terrace. The sight stopped me cold. Abigail was in the pool, water glistening on her skin like liquid diamonds.

She wore a black bikini that clung to her curves, the gold waist chain I’d bought her in Santorini catching the light with every movement.

Her dark hair was wet, slicked back, a few strands clinging to her neck. Bruises still marred her cheek and ribs, but she looked radiant as ever, her blue eyes crinkling as she laughed at something Angel said.

That beautiful divine sound. River lounged on a chair with Annette next to her, fast asleep, while Angel splashed water at Abigail, giggling before her green eyes spotted me.

"Dad!" My little princess waved eagerly at me.

"Hi princess, have fun today?!"

"You bet we did."

Abigail turned, spotting me. Her face lit up with that smile that always made my world feel lighter.

She swam to the edge, water cascading down her body as she pulled herself up slightly, elbows resting on the tile.

"Hi Mr Wolfe, you’re looking very scrumptious," she teased, cornflower blue eyes sparkling.

I couldn’t resist. I set the bag down, walked to the edge, and leaned down, pressing a gentle kiss to the top of her wet head.

Then I reached down, scooped her out of the pool in one smooth motion, water dripping everywhere.

She yelped in surprise, laughing as she wrapped her arms around my neck, legs dangling. "Finnegan!"

Angel and River burst into laughter. "Ewwww."

I ignored them, carrying Abigail inside, her wet body pressed against my suit. She was laughing, but I could see the faint winces when I held her too tightly near her bruises.

Inside the bedroom, I set her down gently on the bed and knelt in front of her, carefully checking the marks on her face and ribs.

"Does it hurt?" My thumb brushed the bruise on her cheekbone, wishing I could take the pain away.

"A little," she admitted, reaching up to thread her hands through my hair, kneading my scalp with her slender fingers. "I’m okay, Finnegan. Really."

I leaned in, pressing a tender kiss to the bruise, then another to her lip. "I hate seeing you like this. Every mark on you feels like it’s on me."

"Mushy mushy." She cupped my face, drawing me closer. "If it makes you feel any better, I feel great now that you’re here."

"It really does," I chuckled, hugging her tightly, dropping my head against her soft pillowy tits. The sound of her heart beating somehow felt soothing.

"Oh yeah, before I forget," I murmured, pulling away to grab the shopping bag off the floor. "For you."

Her eyes lit up like a child on Christmas morning as she took the bag and opened it. Inside were a delicate diamond necklace with a small emerald pendant and a matching bracelet. She gasped, fingers tracing the stones with pure delight.

"Oh my God, Finnegan," she breathed, holding them up to the light. The way her eyes sparkled, the excited little giggle that escaped her, it made my chest swell with warmth. "What’s the occasion?"

"Nothing," I said gruffly. "I just thought they would look beautiful on you. Like you."

She threw her arms around my neck, kissing me deeply. "I love them. Thank you so much!"

I kissed her back, slow and tender, pouring everything I felt into it.

For a moment, the world outside, Gina, Devin, Victoria, they all faded until there was only her.

A knock sounded on the door and the spell was broken.

"Dad?" Angel called from behind the door. "You might want to see this."

I sighed, pressing one last kiss to Abigail’s forehead before we both stood. I dried her with a towel and draped her in one of my shirts before we left the room.

In the living room, the TV was on. Victoria was on a women’s talk show, smiling tearfully for the cameras. This could not be good.

"I’ve decided to fight for my marriage," she said, her voice thick with tears.

"For our family. For our daughter. Finnegan and I have been through so much, but true love means fighting through the hard times. I’m going to do everything I can to rebuild what we had. I’ll be going on a reconciliation tour, and I hope the world wishes me luck!"

Photos flashed on screen, old pictures of them on their wedding day, smiling for the cameras. The audience clapped enthusiastically.

I felt my blood run cold and glanced at River, who looked as confused as I was. "What the fuck is a reconciliation tour?"
