The Wolfe mansion was quiet that evening, with the evening sun hanging low in the horizon as it slowly descended to sleep. It was a beautiful mansion and Victoria liked it best when Finnegan wasn’t in it.

She sat curled on the sofa in the living room, one red heel dangling off her foot, tapping rapidly at her phone.

Give me an hour, she typed. Then I’m all yours. Remember we have to be careful.

She hit send and watched the double tick appear, smiling to herself. She would finally see him. The sound of tyres on the driveway outside made her glance up.

She wasn’t expecting anyone and the staff certainly wouldn’t announce themselves that dramatically. It could only be one person.

Victoria rose, smoothing her dress down her thighs as she sashayed to the window, parting the curtain with two fingers.

Finnegan’s car sat in the driveway.

"Oh, come on," She groaned, letting the curtain fall. "What is it this time? He always has the worst timing."

Finnegan strutted into the living area, an icy countenance fixed on his his face as always, his green eyes were so blank but she knew them so well, he was irritated.

An irritated Finnegan was a distracted one and God knew they needed a distracted Finnegan especially with the recent development.

"Did my husband miss me?" She beamed up at him, tilting her head.

Finnegan ignored her, crossed the room in four strides and dropped a file on the table in the living room.

The laugher died in Victoria’s throat when she met his gaze. There was no way it was what she was thinking.

"Oh, please." She waved a hand at it. "Those cannot seriously be divorce papers."

"Sign them."

She sashayed around the table toward him, reaching up to trail her fingers down the lapel of his jacket.

"Finn." Her voice dropped with sugary sweetness. "Sweetheart, you know what happens if you do this. There’s no way a judge doesn’t give me half and you don’t have a single shred of proof that I’ve been unfaithful. You and I both know that."

"My lawyer will collect the signed documents from you in a week."

Her fingers stopped rubbing against his chest and her smile faded away. He couldn’t be serious.

"You would lose half your company," she reminded him.

"Good day." Was all he said in that annoying cold and dry tone of his before he turned and walked out.

She rushed to the table, flipping through the pages with shaky hands.

Negligence?

He was filing for a divorce in negligence?!

That, that jerk!

"No," she whispered. "NO!"

Victoria hurled the file to the floor, the white papers scattering across the marble floor. She immediately lunged for her phone that was abandoned on the sofa and dialed a number.

"He gave me divorce papers." She reported immediately the person picked. "Finn just walked in here and gave me divorce papers, Gina."

Gina Wolfe scoffed in disbelief on the other end. "That’s not possible. He would never sacrifice the company for anyone."

"Well he’s doing it now!" Victoria pressed a hand to her forehead, pacing up and down the room.

"He’s filing based on negligence. What does that even mean? The only thing we used to keep him in place was threatening to take half the company if he tried to divorce me, now that he doesn’t care, what do we do?!!!!"

"Call me back when you’re done screaming," Gina said nonchalantly, apparently Victoria’s tone was getting on her nerves.

"This is serious," Victoria stopped pacing and gripped the phone.

"If this divorce goes through, everything falls apart. Our entire plan goes to waste. Are you hearing me? Or have you already decided to cut me out? Because if that’s what’s happening, I swear to God I will-"

"You will what?" Gina’s screeched, her vicious voice cutting through the evening air. "Tell it all to Finnegan?"

Victoria said nothing, gripping the device tighter.

"Think very carefully," Gina continued.

"Do you genuinely believe that if you hand Finnegan a thread, he will not pull it until the whole thing unravels? You went as far as burning down that house, Victoria, to cover our tracks. You think he would simply forgive that? Maybe you’ve even slipped. That’s why he’s doing all this. You must have made him suspect."

"It’s not me," Victoria cried. "That stupid assistant of his, it’s her, it’s all her. He’s losing his entire mind over some girl who works for him,"

"What?" Gina spat. "You’re not serious, are you? You’re sure it’s because of Abigail?"

"Yes." Victoria dragged a hand through her hair. "You sould have seen his face when I went to the company to confront the little bitch. He could have hit me, just because of her!"

"Has he completely lost his mind?" Gina yelled on the other end, unable to believe what she was hearing.

"That annoying little harridan has been a thorn in my side since the moment she came into our lives. She has interfered with my plans more times than I care to count. She even managed to have my man arrested, twice. If I hadn’t had him moved when I did, the commotion would have drawn the attention of the law and we can’t have that."

Victoria stopped pacing, "Why don’t we just get rid of her?"

"Says the woman who can’t stand to see a dead body," Gina fumed. "I’ve sent her a last and final warning but she’s nosy. Just like her foolish parents were."

"Wait." Victoria’s brows pulled together slowly, the pieces slowly making sense.

"Gina, are you saying..." She wet her lips, processing what she just heard. "No way, she’s the one from that night?"

"Yes, see when I said she’s a problem?"

Victoria cackled. "Wow, it’s hilarious because Finn has no idea. We can use this, oh no, we can actually use this to achieve our goal."

She smirked, glancing at the the divorce papers lying on the floor.

"Are you saying we should use the Kellerman girl?"

"Why not?" Victoria grinned, brushing her fingers lightly over lips. "If she is as stubborn as you say, then she is the perfect chip we can use to take over the entire corporation."
