Jayce didn’t bother to look at Mandy Sinclair again. He walked straight past her and hurried upstairs.
Mandy Sinclair watched Jayce’s retreating back. It was only after she heard a door close upstairs that she dared to gasp for air.
"Psycho!"
Mandy Sinclair muttered under her breath.
"They’re both psychos!"
"Having a Superpower makes you all that, huh?"
"If only I had a Superpower..."
As Mandy Sinclair spoke, her expression hardened with resolve.
’That’s right!’
’A Superpower!’
’Superpower Users have high status. They can get whatever they want!’
’As long as I can awaken a Superpower, not only will I be able to live a good life, but I won’t have to be afraid of Jayce and Sierra Sullivan anymore!’
’Awakening a Superpower is dangerous, but fortune is found in danger!’
Mandy Sinclair clenched her fists, her hesitation gone. She dropped the bucket off at her home and then rushed downstairs in a hurry.
...
Sierra Sullivan carried Candice Tate back to their apartment and set her down on the floor.
"Candice," Sierra Sullivan said, squatting down. "How about I give you a bath and wash your hair? Okay?"
Candice Tate nodded obediently. "Okay! Thank you, Big Sister!"
Hearing Candice call her "Big Sister" in that soft little voice made Sierra Sullivan grin from ear to ear.
’Candice is just too cute!’
’How can a little girl be this adorable?!’
Just then, Jayce opened the door and walked in. Hearing their conversation, he immediately said, "I’ll get the bathwater ready!"
Sierra Sullivan went into the bedroom, took out the bathtub, and placed a rack next to it, arranging all the toiletries on top.
Once everything was ready, Sierra came out and called Candice Tate in.
"I’ll be waiting right outside. Call me if you need anything," Jayce said.
"Got it. You can go now!"
Sierra Sullivan closed the bedroom door and then helped Candice Tate undress.
Candice had clearly not bathed in a long time. Sierra let her soak in the water for ten-some minutes before starting to scrub her clean.
Some kids are afraid of being scrubbed, but luckily, Candice was very well-behaved. She didn’t flinch or cry out.
Even when it was time to wash her hair, Candice remained cooperative the entire time.
Bathed, dried, and changed into clean, comfortable clothes, Candice looked as delicate as a porcelain doll.
’I thought Candice was pretty before, but now that she’s all clean, she’s even more beautiful!’
Candice Tate’s hair wasn’t long. Even if you tried to tie it up, most of it would just fall back down.
Sierra Sullivan had short hair herself and had no idea how to style it.
After talking it over with Candice, the little girl agreed to get her hair cut shorter.
Sierra immediately took out the tools needed for a haircut.
Her hair was fine and soft, and there wasn’t much of it, so it was easy to trim.
After the trim, Candice had straight-cut bangs and short hair that just reached her neck, making her look even more like a delicate doll.
Sierra Sullivan was very pleased with her masterpiece. She turned to Jayce and said, "So? My skills aren’t bad, right?"
"Not just ’not bad’!" Jayce praised her with a serious expression. "It’s excellent!"
Hearing such words from Jayce’s mouth didn’t surprise Sierra in the least.
In fact, she would have found it strange if he hadn’t said something like that.
"You clean this up and wash Candice’s clothes. I’m going to get her room ready," Sierra said.
"Okay, leave it to me. Go on!"
Sierra Sullivan took Candice Tate to the spare bedroom.
The spare bedroom was fully furnished and had been cleaned thoroughly. All they needed to do was put sheets and a comforter on the bed, and it would be ready to sleep in.
Sierra opened the two suitcases. She hung all the clean clothes inside in the closet and took the dirty ones out for Jayce to wash.
Candice was so young, she had no idea how much could fit in a suitcase anyway. Sierra took the opportunity to pull out some things she had stored in her space.
Not just clothes and shoes, but also some toys, books, and crayons.
With these things laid out, the once somewhat cold spare bedroom instantly felt soft and warm.
Candice Tate’s eyes widened bit by bit, filled with delighted surprise. "Big Sister, you’re amazing! You brought all my things back!"
"Of course!" Sierra’s face was all smiles. "Big Sister knew you liked these things, so I brought them all back for you! But this is our little secret, so don’t tell anyone else, okay?"
Candice tilted her head. "Can’t I tell Big Brother Jayce either?"
"Big Brother Jayce already knows! So it’s just the three of us who know. Okay? Let’s pinky swear!"
Children actually take promises much more seriously than adults.
Candice immediately held out her hand, hooking her tiny pinky with Sierra’s. "Pinky swear! Sealed! No changing for a hundred years!"
Sierra Sullivan breathed a sigh of relief. She then looked at the urn. "Candice, where do you want to put your mother?"
Candice looked around the room and finally settled her gaze on the desk.
"Put Mom on the desk!"
"Okay!"
Sierra didn’t help. She watched as Candice stood on a stool and, carefully yet with immense solemnity, placed the urn on the desk.
"Mom is here with Candice now. She’ll always be with you, so you don’t have to be afraid. Eat well, and grow up well," Sierra said softly.
Candice nodded obediently. "I will! I’ll study hard too! And I’ll practice... my what-cha-ma-call-it."
After all, she was just a child and couldn’t quite remember the term "Superpower User."
But she knew it was very important!
Speaking of Superpowers, Sierra was also very curious about the current state of Candice’s ability.
She took a watermelon seed out from her space.
"Candice, try using your Superpower to make it grow. But be careful—if you start to feel tired or uncomfortable, stop immediately, okay?"
"Okay!"
Candice took the seed in her hand.
As a soft green light began to glow, the watermelon seed quickly sprouted and grew.
The vine lengthened, and its leaves rapidly unfurled.
In no time, it had already covered a third of the floor.
Then came the flowers, followed by fruit.
Little watermelons began to grow at a visible rate.
When the watermelons had grown bigger than Sierra’s head, Candice looked up. "Big Sister, the watermelons can’t grow anymore!"
"Why?" Sierra asked subconsciously. ’Did she run out of power?’
"Because the watermelons at the supermarket are this big!" Candice replied as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
A five- or six-year-old child already recognizes common fruits and animals and has a certain level of understanding about them.
Sierra blinked, slowly processing the meaning behind Candice’s words.
Candice meant that since watermelons in the supermarket were this big, they couldn’t grow any bigger.
Not that she *couldn’t* make them grow bigger.
Before, Candice had only eaten palm-sized wheat sprouts, so Sierra had subconsciously assumed that the girl’s Superpower wasn’t very strong—that she could probably only grow sprouts.
But clearly, she was wrong!
