Teaming Up with My Enemy to Rule the Apocalypse

Jayce raised an eyebrow. "Of course, it was a success."

’How could I possibly fail?’

"I know you succeeded. So, what did you awaken?" Dr. Hayes asked patiently.

"The Wood Element Ability."

Hearing Jayce’s answer, Sierra shot him a surprised look.

’I didn’t expect Jayce to awaken the Wood Element Ability.’

’Even though I didn’t manage to awaken the Wood Element Ability, it’s a good thing that Jayce did.’

’The two of us together could be considered complementary.’

’Besides, the Water Ability and the Wood Element Ability are inherently complementary.’

’No matter how you look at it, this is a good outcome.’

As he spoke, Jayce looked at Sierra. "Sierra, what Superpower did you awaken?"

"Space System," Sierra replied succinctly.

But Jayce’s eyes lit up instantly.

’The Space System is great!’

’With the Space Ability, the secret of Sierra’s space can be well hidden.’

’This really is a good thing!’

Dr. Hayes studied Jayce closely. "The Wood Element Ability... it doesn’t really suit you."

"What?" Jayce gave Dr. Hayes a strange look. "What do you mean it doesn’t suit me?"

’Do Superpowers pick and choose people?’

Before Jayce could say anything more, Dr. Hayes had already turned to Sierra.

"This was still very successful. After you get back, when you’re cultivating your Superpowers, pay close attention to how you feel. It would be best if you could keep a record. Give it to me later so I can use it as a reference.

"If you want to awaken even more Superpowers, you can wait a few days and try again. It should be successful."

’We’ve only just awakened our second Superpowers, and Dr. Hayes is already thinking about a third time. He really is a research fiend!’

"Don’t worry, Dr. Hayes." Sierra agreed with a smile. "We’ll definitely keep good records and do our best to provide you with material."

Jayce naturally had no objections to what Sierra had promised, so he agreed as well.

"Don’t you worry, we’ll definitely help you! We have to help each other to get stronger! That’s how we’ll survive longer and live better in this apocalypse!"

The two didn’t linger and left soon after.

After returning, the first thing they did was go see Kevin Everett.

Although Kevin Everett didn’t have a Superpower, his perception was still very keen.

The moment he saw the two of them, he immediately sensed something was off.

He felt that they were somehow different than before.

But if asked what exactly was different, he couldn’t quite put his finger on it.

"You two are..." Kevin Everett began, testing the waters. "Why do I get the feeling you’re different than before?"

Jayce looked at Kevin Everett with some surprise. "Dad, you don’t even have a Superpower. How can your senses be so sharp?"

Kevin Everett shot Jayce a glare. "What’s so strange about that? Looking down on your old man, are you?! Now hurry up and tell me what happened."

Jayce chuckled and explained everything from beginning to end.

Although there were no heart-pounding descriptions, Kevin Everett’s heart was in his throat as he listened.

It might have sounded easy, but he knew that in reality, it was anything but.

’What would have happened if they hadn’t succeeded?’

Kevin Everett didn’t dare to think about it, nor did he want to.

In any case, they had already succeeded. There was no point in thinking about it now.

"If you both can awaken a second Superpower, then does that mean I can also... try to awaken one?" Kevin Everett brought up the matter again.

Kevin Everett had never been a reckless person. He always had a clear sense of what he could and couldn’t do.

Hearing Jayce’s words, Kevin Everett nodded. "You’re right. I’ll wait a bit longer then!"

"Where’s Candice?" Sierra asked.

’She’s so attached to me, she should have run out as soon as she heard my voice.’

’But it’s been so long, and Candice still hasn’t appeared. Something’s clearly not right.’

"She’s busy!" Kevin Everett said with a smile. "Don’t let that little girl’s age fool you. She’s full of drive and resilience. Someone mentioned that supplies were running low, and she went right to work growing crops. Your second sister-in-law is also helping, but you know her—her ability is limited, so she can’t help much. It’s better than nothing, but it means more work for Candice."

Just from Kevin Everett’s words, Sierra could guess how hard Candice was working.

For a five-year-old child, it was indeed too demanding.

But that was the reality of their current situation.

No one could afford to stand alone in this apocalypse.

You had to contribute as much as your abilities allowed, regardless of age.

Fortunately, Candice’s personality was not one to worry about.

That little girl was like a cactus.

And it was precisely this kind of personality that allowed one to live better in the apocalypse!

Jayce stood up. "I’ll go help, too!"

’The Wood Element Ability is useful after all!’

’Even though I just awakened it, I should be able to help out at least a little!’

Sierra watched Jayce’s retreating back with a hint of envy, but she quickly looked away.

’My Superpower is different from Jayce’s, and so are my responsibilities.’

Seeing Sierra look away so quickly, Kevin Everett nodded to himself in approval.

’Sierra really is impressive in that regard. She’s so level-headed. She knows what she needs to do and can focus on herself instead of envying what others have.’

Being stared at by Kevin Everett, and with such a strange look in his eyes, Sierra couldn’t pretend she hadn’t noticed.

Sierra had no choice but to smile at Kevin Everett. "Uncle, why are you looking at me like that?"

"It’s nothing, nothing." Kevin Everett waved his hand. "I was just thinking that kid Jayce is really lucky to have found you!"

Hearing this, Sierra’s smile grew even warmer. "You can’t quite put it all that way. I’m also very fortunate to have Jayce."
