Teaming Up with My Enemy to Rule the Apocalypse

Although the base had only recently been established, its leaders had been decided long ago.

Kevin Everett was a base leader, but he wasn’t the only one.

Currently, the base had two leaders.

One was Kevin Everett.

The other was Hugo Cheney’s father.

The Cheney Family and the Everett Family were rivals of equal standing.

While they cooperated, they were also, of course, in competition.

Kevin Everett nodded. Without any intention of opening the box, he simply said to Jayce and Sierra Sullivan, "What’s inside is for you two! You can look after you get back to your room. I’ve also arranged for the team. Captain Crawford will lead a squad with you, and they will be completely under your command. We’ll set the departure time for eight o’clock tomorrow morning."

Hearing Kevin Everett’s words, Sierra Sullivan was deeply impressed.

’Just a short while ago, he was worried and didn’t want us to go!’

’And look how little time has passed, yet he’s already arranged everything so perfectly!’

As these thoughts ran through her mind, Sierra Sullivan and Jayce stood up together. "We understand! We won’t let you down!"

Kevin Everett gave a slight nod. "It’s getting late. Go back and get ready. Rest well tonight, and be down early tomorrow morning."

Sierra Sullivan and Jayce each carried a box as they left the tenth floor.

As they went upstairs, it was inevitable that all eyes would be on them again.

This time, even more people were watching than in the morning.

Compared to the morning, their gazes were even more intense.

They weren’t staring at their faces, but at the boxes they carried.

Sierra Sullivan knew that in their minds, these people had surely assumed the boxes were full of food and drink.

But she was certain that wasn’t what was inside.

There was no need to explain, however.

What these people thought was their own business.

The two of them walked all the way from the tenth floor to the thirty-sixth without a single break.

For a normal person, climbing over twenty floors in one go would leave them half-dead.

But Sierra Sullivan and Jayce were Superpower Users, their bodies already much stronger than those of ordinary people.

Not to mention, the two of them never slacked off.

They were either training or on their way to train.

Their physical conditioning was even better than that of the average Superpower User.

Climbing just over twenty floors had no effect on them whatsoever.

When they got back to their apartment, neither of them was flushed or out of breath.

After closing the door, Sierra Sullivan eagerly turned to the box. "Jayce, what’s in here? Do you know?"

Jayce nodded. "I have a pretty good idea. It should be gear and weapons."

As he spoke, Jayce opened the box.

It was just as Jayce had said.

The box was indeed filled with gear and weapons.

The gear was dark green.

A very striking color.

Sierra Sullivan felt the material. It was unique, unlike any fabric she had ever worn before.

Jayce explained, "This is the highest-grade protective suit. It not only prevents sand from getting through but is also highly resistant to tearing. Even a Dunescrawler can’t bite through it easily."

Hearing Jayce’s explanation, Sierra Sullivan’s eyes lit up.

She had witnessed the terror of the Dunescrawlers firsthand.

Despite their small size, Dunescrawlers were incredibly lethal.

Having clothes that could protect against Dunescrawlers was practically like having a second life!

"This material is extremely rare. It even requires Crystal Cores to make, so there’s very little of it. It can only be provided to a select few," Jayce said softly.

Sierra Sullivan paused for a moment, then smiled. "You guessed what I was thinking again!"

She had just been thinking that if everyone could wear these protective suits, they would be much safer.

But she also knew such suits were too rare for everyone to have one, which was why she hadn’t said it aloud.

She hadn’t expected that Jayce would not only see through her but also say something to comfort her.

Jayce leaned in, pressing his forehead against Sierra Sullivan’s. "Because I know my Sierra is kind. And kind people can’t help but let their thoughts show on their faces."

Sierra Sullivan looked up into Jayce’s eyes, now just inches away. "Are you saying it’s written all over my face?"

"Your face doesn’t need words, Sierra. I only need a single glance to know what you’re thinking."

"Then tell me what I’m thinking now."

"You’re thinking... about kissing me."

"You’re right."

The box also contained weapons.

There were knives, crossbows, and even guns.

Sierra Sullivan had handled guns before the apocalypse.

Even though her country had strict gun control, there were places like shooting ranges.

The guns were different, but to a certain degree, once you learned one, you could figure out the others.

For a while, Sierra Sullivan had been obsessed with shooting. She would go to the range as soon as she woke up and practice until it closed.

She had invested time, energy, and a massive amount of money.

And the results, of course, were good!

At the range, she never missed a shot!

Whether it was stationary targets or bottles tossed in the air, she could hit them every single time.

Back then, she had thought, ’My marksmanship is so good, it’s a shame I’ll never have a chance to use it in a real battle.’

Well, now her chance for a real battle had arrived!

Sierra Sullivan shook her head to clear the stray thoughts and began to inspect the firearms and ammunition one by one.

Jayce came over again and began to explain things to Sierra Sullivan.

Sierra Sullivan knew that Jayce had spent two years in the military.

He wasn’t just pretending to know what he was talking about—he was a genuine expert.

Sierra Sullivan knew these guns were very different from the ones at a shooting range.

So, as Jayce explained everything with great care, she listened with equal attention.

If she weren’t afraid of wasting bullets, Sierra Sullivan would have been tempted to try them out right then and there.

In the end, however, she restrained herself.

There would be plenty of chances to test them out once she left the base.

「The next morning.」

At six o’clock, Sierra Sullivan’s eyes opened right on schedule.

The first thing she did after getting out of bed was her forty-minute training routine.

After her workout, she showered, put on the protective suit, and then put her own clothes on over it.

Not only was her body wrapped up tightly, but she also prepared a face shield, goggles, a hat, and a mask.

A sandstorm doesn’t play fair; it gets in everywhere.

If you weren’t properly protected, you were the only one who would suffer.

As she prepared all this, Sierra Sullivan felt incredibly excited.

In both her past and present lives, this was the first time she would be truly walking into a sandstorm.

Jayce walked over and took Sierra Sullivan’s hand. "Sierra, don’t worry. I’ll be with you."

"I know!"

Sierra Sullivan holstered her gun, stored the remaining firearms and ammunition in her dimensional space, shouldered her backpack, and lifted her chin. "Let’s go! Time to move out!"

Jayce watched Sierra Sullivan, his eyes full of adoration, wanting to burn this image of her into his memory.

’That’s my Sierra!’
